    He should've just kept delivering the mail and enjoy his pension, he was just a recreational boxer at best. At least he had balls to climb into the ring but a professional, he never was.

    37 - 7 - 1 w/ 26 KO's isn't shabby@@davidhaley5597. 15 - 0 through the 1st few years also isn't shabby. He held the IBF USBA Middle belt and lost a 12-round decision for the WBO Super Middleweight title. Well beyond "recreational". This was his final fight of a 12+ year career against a 29 - 0 champion. I highly doubt you have anywhere near this resume.

    the best ever i daresay. at least in terms of athletic ability. a marvel. dominated everyone easily during his prime. more so than mayweather. better than mayweather during his prime, and more dominant. more speed and power, even lb for lb considerations factored in, than... anyone i think. and in the 90s hbo had all these great specials where he just wrecked everyone and so easily. 30-1 favorite in this fight... goodness...

    27:30 when George and Larry (awkwardly as usual) get into it as to where Roy gets his power from, both of them make good observations…When people learn to box they’re taught the kinetic chain of punching mechanics: generating power from the feet, and transferring it through the legs, hips, back, shoulder, forearm, then finally ending at the fist. Roy had this specially ability to just spring into his shots and omit 2/3 of that chain altogether. His shoulders were spring-loaded, man, like pistons.

    In round 2 at 26:18 before the late knockdown. Jones went jab head then body 4 times consecutively to set up the hook. Beautiful technique, he conditioned him to lower his hands because Jones kept going jab head to body. Then when Jones jabbed again the arms lowered expecting the body jab and Jones quickly stepped in with a hook.

    That's call broken rhythm he broke from his pattern when he drew his guard out but he keep doing it to give him something to think about then he broke from it then went to the head.

  • @kufujitsu

    @kufujitsu

    3 жыл бұрын

    You're right about the jabs to the body - he also threw in a jab-feint to the body after that sequence, which opened up Thornton to the hook - it got Thornton to drop his hands to cover the body shot & go straight back with his head up, which is a no-no against a hooker - see the McCallum-Curry fight.

  • @tremainehughes9342

    @@kufujitsu that's apart of broken rhythm it can be a sudden feint or fake of a pattern you keep doing to cause the opponent to react on then break from it to catch him by surprise and he also changed the tempo to make it even better.

Then talking about Jones' fights with other fighters when the action is happening with Thornton! Fights would be so much better if these big mouths' microphones were turned off during the rounds, because their over-size egos compulsively have to compete with the fight taking place.
