I am so excited to do this prompt - I know, Corinne is always coming up with some great interpretations! I absolutely adore working on these projects with you all!!! FYI - since I started these projects, I have been able to lower my blood pressure by stitching a little every day..... My dr is thrilled to bits! LOL! So that means NO MORE statins for me!!

What a great prompt, such a beautiful part of our sewing history. Hugs Susanna 😊❤🧵🪡
Hi Rach. Marion from Marion’s World just made a beautiful hussif. I love she cut the fingers off leather gloves to hold an old needle bottle. I know you will be having a wonderful time back home. Enjoy ! Thank you to you and Sarah for all the great videos you do. Carolyn from Ontario Canada 🇨🇦

I just saw Marion’s as well..great ideas everywhere..excited about this. ❤️🇨🇦
These look amazing. And learning that they were made to send with a soldier or a traveler to take their sewing kit with them is inspiring.
I wasn't going to do this series because I've told myself I need to finish the projects that I've already started. But after seeing what these are I realize I must make one because when you travel this would be the perfect thing to have all your sewing necessities in. Thanks so much for the inspiration. Another rabbit hole to fall down in. ha ha
I don’t know how I found you, I stumbled really, and there you were talking about these beautiful historic sewing pouches. I was mesmerized. Thank you, thank you. I need to show up next week as you continue your beautiful project. I’m a simple sewer. Never had lessons or taken courses, but I love old things, old fabrics. I think I have found my people!!!

Thank you so much ☺️
The first time I ever saw or heard of a hussif-I’ve seen lots of spellings-it belonged to my husband. As a young sailor he had one as part of his kit, I believe his auntie gave him that one. Rachel, the colours are so pretty on yours. Time for a duck dive into my fabrics.
Rachel, you really chimed my bell with this project. I have wanted to make a huswif for many years. I didn’t know where to begin. Here in the US. Fiancée,wife admirer would make one of these huswif to send their beloved on a journey or to war. I find fabric samples at my local flea market. I found a ready embroidered sample silk curtain fabric to use for the front, I have batting, and for the lining I have old quilt I have been hoarding. Really excited to begin. 🎉🎉
Love the project! If you were to herringbone stitch from the back to attach those fabrics, instead of the zig zag stitch from the front, it might give the same result a bit faster maybe. My brain is buzzing!!
This is gorgeous! The old fabrics are perfect.
Just climbed out of the rabbit hole. I am very inspired by the Civil War "housewifs". What a great project this will be.

I love a hussif. I made a needle roll to emulate one.
So exciting to learn history of sewing! Thank you so much!
I've heard older women here (North of England) call them a hussive/hussif (unsure of spelling!). Always thought it was a Northern English thing! Thanks for the inspiration, Rachel ❤
Since I don’t have that gorgeous book in my collection, I’m headed down the rabbit hole!!! What a great project!!!❤️

I decided I didn't want to do this prompt, a bit intimidating for me, but now that I have watched this, maybe I will try one. I love the way you work.
I love this. Such a great prompt so many possibilities. 💙
The needle rolls are similar to the chantelaines the house women wore in Victorian times. They held similar objects but on a main piece that was attached to their waist or around their neck. Love this Idea❤❤❤
Just lovely 😍

So funny! I stopped in the middle of my pouch and created a hussif or sewing roll then I created another one for my five year old great granddaughter because she was so excited about mine. I wouldn’t put any fluff into it as it get big real quick. Now I am going to finish my pouch and will be caught up. Thank you!
Just love the history to these ❤ can’t wait to start 😁 Rachel you and Sarah are so generous. Your enthusiasm is infectious 👍
Oh my goodness.. now I can’t sleep!! ❤

And we need to honour those strong, capable women who accomplished so much with so little. Their resourcefulness has plenty to teach us all.

What a fascinating sewing item. I will be trying to make one.
I love your old fabrics. So pretty. I have some flour sacks from the 60 that I may use. These are interesting. The soldiers used to carry them too. Have lots of fun in Australia
they were also called a Hussif in the 18th century
What a wonderful idea for the next prompt. I am so very envious of your gorgeous vintage fabric!

Oh I’m soooooo excited!!! I did the embroidery book with you all n enjoyed all of it, the stitching and the wonderful community. Unfortunately since then my health has prevented me from stitching. Now I’m ready to try again and this is such an idea. Rach you are such good therapy for the perfectionist in me, you make me feel like it’s possible for me to stitch again, what ever I can achieve will be ok. Thank you for that, can’t tell you how grateful I am 🤗🤗🤗 started.

Oh how exciting. I had never heard of this. Oddly my husband knew right away, huswif--apparently that is what they called the sewing kits when he was in the army. Thanks so much for this. Off to search for fabric. Hugs.
An exciting prompt! I was able to order the same book you bought from Etsy. ~Terri 😊
