ROW FASTER: THE MOST UNDERRATED SPEED FACTOR

Спорт

Rowing on water or indoor rowing, the single scull or the eight. One of the most underrated speed factors is bodyweight distribution. If you know how to control this, you will be faster, because you are able to take full advantage of your bodyweight.

Dear Aram, I really appreciate the technical explations you give about how to move, and what part of the body is responsible for what kind of outcome. I am still learning, have been rowing know for half an a year and having an age, this sport is as beautiful as difficult, but I feld in love with it at very first day I sat on the boat. You reply to my unspoken questions, and this is really helping me!!!

Great tutorial Aram - thanks for breaking down the movement phases and sequence so clearly! Being able to directly show the impact of different body positions / degree of preparation in the force curve (and reinforcing that with your analogies about rowing injuries) is super helpful. PS You must kill it on the dance floor with those moves👍

I think I understand what you're getting at. I'm female, and use a rowing machine. What helps me rotate the pelvis - as you say - and keep my back straight is to think about keeping my back straight as I bend my knees returning to the catch.

Yes, much of it. Not to the deadlift, though. At least not the legdrive

You talk about the importance of hip rotation, and I want to make sure i understand specifically. During recovery (after release) one tips the top of the pelvis forward (to keep the lower back straighter)? If so, then by symmetry the top would rock backwards while pivoting the trunk after extending the legs?

The trunk moves forward with the pelvis, while the hip joints tend to move back slightly. Essentially, we need an integrated trunk from pelvis to sternum

The most difficult part of coaching is knowing how to explain to the athlete how to execute the correct technique. Simply explaining what the technique should be is not enough.

Exactly. It is like describing the same thing from all possible and impossible different angles until you find the one that works for that specific person

Does the Biorower measure hand height during the drive and at the catch? Getting a "square" hand travel is hard especially when fatigued.
