Thanks for this great training session! I think the Good Morning is the most neglected weight-training exercise in rowing. Yet, so important for the swing-back.

Great video Aram, getting ready to start our Spring season here in the Northeast, been trying to simplify the lifting thing as a coach for years. You only need a few good exercises. I'm introducing sand bags this year, cheap! Takes real men to do overhead squats!

That front squat is a game changer! And also the comment "competitively fit". Thats such a good phrase for someone like me, i have rowed recreationally before, but i dont any more, yet i DO want to be competitively fit!

The goblet squat is similar, and good if you don't want to squat a large amount of weight.

I dont understand the overhead squat. I feel that its more prone to injuries thean just a back squat and overhead press

My point is that you use it with very little weight, and primarily as a mobility exercise. This is a completely different approach

On the topic of proper rowing technique with shoulders down and lats out. I have noticed that sometimes at the catch I am feeling my pectoral muscles engage really snappy like. Is this wrong since the pull is supposed to be on lats? I have noticed that on one arm rowing I am consistently able to not engage pecs throughout the drive though.

The pecs engage when you actively force your shoulders down, because it also attatches to your collarbone.

In a true rowing motion set up, your pecs help to direct linear force from your legs/core into perpendicular motion = around the oar locks. Personally, I coach exactly that

During the good mornings you say to lock your pelvis. aren’t you rotating the pelvis when you do the movement or is that more hip centric?

Yes. I am saying lock your hip joint. Can you point to the "locked pelvis"? Thank you!
