My dad used to trail Land Rovers with his pal. Both are serious mechanics. The lump they used was a Rover V8. It’s basically the engine that powered the vehicle I learnt to drive in. I was thirteen years old. You could rev the absolute bollocks out of em, and the sound was just incredible. I fell in love right there and then. Great fun.

I wonder what would have happened if Honda/ Rover had combined the 3.5 l V8 with the VTEC.

What's with the different exhaust manifolds? Good to see cast iron, but why the two?

Pre-heated air for colder conditions is taken from the right hand exhaust manifold via an attached sheet metal piece and a flexible hose ,brought into the air intake. Not shown here, but hence the odd shape of the right exhaust manifold.

Cool.. Got the old LT77 there, a seemingly good running engine. Now all you need is a car to put it in! 👻 Oddly enough, I have taken out the engine from my P6 to "make it more better", but when it was running, it sounded a lot more "meaty". Regularly took it upto 6k. Do the SD1 engines have double valve springs and 10.5:1 CR too? 🤔 I can't remember. To Google! 👻

🤔 Well, if you want capacity. These little 3.5L V8's will kick out 265HP with little more than a cam, intake and carb change (check out realsteel.co.uk). Plus you don't have to put up with those horrible stamped rockers. And unless you find yourself an alloy SBC, you will be dealing with a lot more weight.

Vape That's an ignorant comment. Those Rover V8 3.5 were top notch. Very lightweight, reliable, reasonable stock output, and quite easy to get very high power from. You yanks may think your fabled "LS swap" is the bee's knees. In reality, for two decades, a SD1 swap was the holy grail. Take this Rover V8 apart, and do the same to a GM lump from the same period of time. Compare the quality of their parts. You will be surprised how much better quality the Brit had than GM had. And you'd be gobsmacked to find that....TA-DAAA.....The Rover 3500 WAS actually a GM design. Anything else we can do for you, Captain America ??
