Really fond of Quentin. What is a slightly rusty old car in the majority of peoples eyes is a very rare and really appealing Rover convertible from a bygone era and defunct car manufacturer. This, the Volvo and the P6 are my faves of all the interesting projects (I like them all lol)

I've found that if I've had a project like this that's repeatedly gone horribly wrong, to the point I've wanted to abandon it but I've persevered regardless, I feel even more attached to the car when it's finished. There might be an initial period of "what's going to break next", but the more time that passes without anything breaking, the more trustworthy it becomes and the more satisfying it is to drive, as it feels like the hard work was worth it after all.

It is starting to come together, i hope when it does go for an MOT that it passes or at least there isn't too much to be done to make it pass as it would be good to see this car out on a road test. Matt, I am glad to see that you have some progress on Quentin, all be it slowly. One easy and free cosmetic touch would be to restore you gearstick gaiter. I suggest using black liquid shoe polish, rub the sponge bit into the faded parts and wipe off with kitchen role and keep doing it until the gaiter is black and there is no more transfer of polish onto the kitchen role. It worked very well on my Mercedes S124 steering wheel. Happy Christmas Matt.

Matt, I have no idea how familiar with the Marx Brothers you might be (or not) but consider this from "Duck Soup" -- Secretary of the Treasury: "Sir, you try my patience!" Firefly (Groucho): "Don't mind if I do. You must try mine some time."

Sorry Matt, Instead of laughing or at least, as well as laughing, we should be trying to help. The chances of the new fuel sender unit being faulty are very small, so it must be something else. You can test the sender using the ohms range on your multimeter . I've only dealt with variable resistance type senders, modern ones are probably more sophisticated (like hall effect), but The Rover is unlikely to be like this. As far as I recall, in the older Volvos, the gauge would go to 'full' if the circuit was broken (open circuit) between the gauge and the sender. The B+ went to the gauge (meter) which had a voltage divider circuit and a shunt. At the tank end the slider (the moving part of the variable resistor/ potentiometer) to ground. When the slider moved up as fuel level dropped, this presented less resistance between ground and the negative side of the meter circuit, moving the needle towards empty. To test the sender unplug it from the loom and read resistance between the casing and either of the pins. when the float arm is moved one of these readings should move, the other will be a fixed value. If your circuit is similar to this, an empty reading means that there is either a short on the loom going towards the tank, or no B+ at the gauge. I've confused myself now LOL

Maybe - having spent a proportion of my working life around British Car Plants - I know most of the horror stories to be true - from the need in the mid seventies at Landrover for some staff to pillage local car parts stores to try to plug supplies gaps when they started to build the SD1 at Solihull ans found themselves short of components having messed up their calculations . plus the sleep rota in Longbridge for the night shift - possible by gross overmanning . How well engineered is the suction end of the pump assembly ? Looking at the original made me shudder in terms of the engineering employed .

I'm not sure why people are saying you're just copying Hubnut? Is there only room for one KZreadr who collects cheap broken vehicles and restores them? People seriously need to grow up. I for one think your content has a uniquely Furious Driving flavour and love all the content you produce. Your best bet is to laugh and ignore the 'you're just a copy' comments and keep doing the content that you love. Although you seem to be doing that anyway so keep up the great work!

@@johnmoruzzi7236 I'm sorry but having a 'mailbag' segment in your video is pretty ubiquitous among KZread channels. Tbh I'm not really sure why you're pointing that out anyway, you're observation feels more like a 'nitpick' than anything truly constructive.
