Rover 75 electric car conversion, Elektroauto-Umbau, EV, eRover 75

I converted my Rover 75 V6 to electric drive after an engine failure 2018.
Conversion time: 18 months. Conversion site: garage.
The electric drive goes perfectly with this 20 year old sedan!
-------
New: Experiences after 2 years / 15000 km (2/2022):
Electric motor - no problem
Controller Curtis - no problem
EMUS BMS - firmware bug that could lead to overcharging of the cells was noticed by me in good time and corrected by the manufacturer after a lot of back and forth, cell modules are very sensitive and there are always individual defects, moderate support -- I wouldn't take it again, even if the Android interface looks good. The EMUS BMS caused me the most work/problem by far.
GBS LiFePO4 cells - capacity still perfect. In the meantime, some cells have been replaced due to leaks at the poles (InnoPower Luithle), which worked without any problems, thanks!!
TC CAN charger 3.3 kW - no problems
Elektromotor - kein Problem
Controller Curtis - kein Problem
InnoPower Luithle), was problemlos klappte, danke!!
TC-CAN-Lader 3,3 kW - keine Probleme

Amazing job ! This is by far the cleanest EV retrofit project I’ve seen so far and knowing you did it on your own leads to a massive respect from my side ! I would still rather enjoy the intoxicating sound of a V6 in a Rover 75 (not everyone can afford a 911 and a 75 v6 does provide genuine emotions to humble petrolheads) but I must confess what you’ve acheived is amazing since it might be the only way allowed to continue driving this kind of car in a not so far future. Keeping the manual transmission is a key factor in order to maintain a relevant driving experience for those old cars. I hope some day this kind of transformation will become affordable and easy to be considered as street legal. Anyway congratulations from a true Petrolhead who hopes EV retrofitting won’t become too soon an obligation for those who want to continue driving the cars they have been loving for décades...

Nice! Great idea picking a 75 since they were known for their submarine quietness. Dorchester red is one of the best (and more rare) colours. This would be a hit if it had more range. Anybody who ever sad in a Tesla and then saw the interior of a Rover 75 would instantly dump the Tesla.

I too own a Rover 75 Diesel auto tourer,, ,, I,m thinking my car has 150000 miles on the speedo,in about 10 years my car will be showing maybe 250 000miles and lets be honest it s time will be up... At that time I suppose the regulations for diesel cars will be very tough if not impossible to pass.. At that time I think I,ll try to do a electric conversion,, and things should be easier, with a bigger market for conversions then there is now.... I think your conversion looks great ,,Congratulations,, For my car compared to yours is " Could I use the electric motor with an auto box?"

@@efbvideokanal3538 Could do! It comes in mainly via the rear light cluster foam seals, they go bad when they get old. They are very easy and cheap to replace. Also the chrome trim along the rear wings is clipped in place and a little bit can enter through the holes in the metal where the clips are. A little silicone sealant on the inside around the clips will cure that. Just pull the carpet back from the sides of the boot and you can see the clips. All the best!

I’m impressed by how neat the electrical work has been done in converting the car to electric. The first time I saw this done it looked messy, this looks like the car was built with electricity in mind, I’d love to know how much it would cost to convert a 1.8 Turbo to this standard, I’m guessing the acceleration time is fantastic.

Hello Richard, you have to reckon with a conversion with about 22HP (if you do a lot on your own). A 1.8 will convert just as well as a V6 (with manual transmission). You have to pay attention to the permissible axle load, after the conversion I baked in diesel springs). Acceleration: excellent in city traffic. But don't expect too much over land ...

Yes of course. When I converted, I used my own driving habits as a basis. The battery capacity is influenced by the weight of the vehicle and, of course, by the battery costs. Personally, even when it had a normal combustion engine, I drove to work every day and on some days with the children into town to school or to sports. For me, that's no more than 100 km a day. In the evening it is plugged into the socket and charged very cheaply. Of course, that's not enough for vacation. My wife's car has to be there. Nevertheless, I can still enjoy my trips to work this way :-).

I only charge with about 2 kW overnight, which is best for the batteries. Nevertheless, it is good to be able to charge with 10 kW sometimes ...
