Route 65 running day 2023
Sunday, June 11th - another very successful London Bus Museum sponsored running day, on routes 65 and 71. Although the full length of routes covered extended from Ealing in the north, to Chessington Zoo in the south, these clips were taken around the Petersham and Richmond areas, starting in fine sunshine, but ending in p*****g rail at South Ealing station, where we also managed a quick shot of London Transport Museum's 1938 stock, making a series of special runs on the Piccadilly Line.
Many of the usual suspects took part; RT's, RM's, an RTL and some "guests" but the undoubted star of the show was STL2377 - one of whose passengers, at the rear of the lower saloon, was noted giving the "two finger salute" to the innocent pedestrians watching this superb parade of London buses of yesteryear.
I have included some footage taken on 16mm film in 1978 in the same location - note from the contemporary shots that immediately follow, that the Texaco garage has completely disappeared, as have Green Shield Stamps!

Thanks for this trip down memory lane. I studied at Ealing Technical College in the early 70s and used to regularly travel home for the weekend, starting on the 65 from Ealing to Surbiton station. Cost; 10p! Sometimes friends and I would go out on Saturday to Chessington Zoo, thus doing the whole route. In those days there was a cap on the fare of 12p, so that was the price, as long as you didn't change bus. What value for a bus trip of well over an hour.
Some rather beautiful footage of the yesteryear RTs, makes a nice contrast with the event's offerings that day!
when do you think it will be this year? will ie also be the 11th or it will be also on the sunday of that month

What was the problem with the bloke on STL 2377 at around 2m 10s? Why the V sign? Spoils an otherwise good video.
