Route 406 Reigate running day 9th June 2024

Another London Bus Museum - sponsored running day, bringing vintage buses out on the road for a day.
The day started sunny, but by the time the first buses arrived in my neck of the woods, it had turned gloomy, and I would not usually publish film shot in such miserable conditions, but actually I have realised that part of the attraction of these older buses is not only the sight, but also their sound!
As usual I have concentrated on the older vehicles - RTs, RFs and RMs because those are the buses I grew up with.
Route 406 is a route of contrasts, running from Kingston - the County Town of Surrey - via Epsom, with its market square and clock tower; Tattenham Corner where the route passes Epsom racecourse - no racing on today, of course - the rather attractive 1930's suburb of Ewell, where I enjoyed a pint a the "Old Green Man" whilst waiting for interesting buses to film and record - and on through the well manicured gardens of Kingswood and Tadworth, across the M25 and down Reigate Hill - where I remember in the 1950's cars struggling up the hill in the northbound direction, often overheating. No such issues these days. On through Reigate, to terminate at Redhill Station on the main Brighton Line.
This 11 minute film affords just a glimpse of some of these places, so I hope you enjoy it.
