Rounds TO Kindling - Why I Make Cedar Slabs
I had a question last week on the cedar "slabs" that I split from rounds. So, let's chat about it. Enjoy!

That's amazing!
Making slabs like this also makes great bundle wood, too. Plus, it looks fantastic in a stack or the stand.😉👍

I agree. I guess we're so accustom to the 'normal' split pieces that splitting, stacking, and burning slabs like this is just a foreign idea. It'd dry just fine, right? Keep cuttin', Dan!
I really need to look into getting a kinetic splitter, like yours, for the mini smokeless pits and bbq smoking. All I sell is several different types of oak and hickory which is amazing for cooking. Nice boots.

You can find 'em cheap enough used. I would love to have the SuperSplit like Ohio Wood Burner has but I can't find them in my area. Kinetic splitters are definitely the way to go for smaller splits. Let's talk more about smaller splits on my podcast. Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
Great Video Travis! I do exactly what you’re doing to make kindling. Rounds to slabs, slabs to kindling. Works great. Boots look comfortable. Stay Safe, Continue Stacking, Keep Cuttin!🪵🪵🪵🪵

Glad I'm not alone, Chad. Share that knowledge. Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
Good video Travis. I would call them slabs. The way you make slabs was not what I was thinking, thanks for teaching me a new way of thinking.

Thanks for the confirmation, Brian. I didn't know what else to call it, glad I'm not crazy - ha. Hope it's helpful. Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
One of those kindling slabs will start a lot of fires. Best kindling ever

Be interesting to see how long the boots last Travis. They look like decent boots for the price👍👍

I've already bought a second pair, use one til they're dead then I have another ready to go. Thanks for watching Chris, keep cuttin'!
i need to try out some cedar
The slabs are a good idea with the kinetic splitter. That is a really good way to get the most out of your equipment! Good job using what you have available to you. Cedar or pine fat wood are both excellent kindling.

I've had people this month ask for pine, which I usually have but not currently so I am on the lookout right now. Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!

Thanks Mike. Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
Sometimes WRC splits so easy. I think dryer the better and the wedge on my old splitter only goes in an inch and the split pops off.

Isn't it cool when a wedge goes only a few inches into wood, pops and splits? (so the ram doesn't have to be all the way extended)? Love it! Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
Hi Travis. I believe I asked the question about slabs. You explained it well. I was thinking you picked up slab wood from a mill. Later

I believe it was, Allen. Hope I answered your question enough and that it's helpful. I've tried to get mill scraps but either it's a drive away and/or it's cedar which is fine but I always have too much cedar. Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
Hey Travis. The cedar I have here in Missouri sure looks different than what you have there!

It's cool that cedar is abundant but there's different species. Up here we get cypress which smells like cedar but it's different. Does your cedar smell like cedar too? Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!

@@travisdoesfirewood yes, smells very much like cedar! It also very red on the inside when split
lol ive recently made several fires
Thought of offering fire starters too? Saw dust/shavings and paraffin wax

That's an idea, but sounds labor intensive. If I my mini bundles don't sell well, unsure if fire starters would. I'll chew on the idea for a bit. Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
? Do you play in a band if so I see you as a drummer. David UK.

@@travisdoesfirewood no rain today but only about 65. Rain on and off last 3 days w high around 75. At least I should finally get some more corn in, 30 acres to go. Then 20 of soybeans .Luckily the rain was more off than on
Size 11w? Send them here. I'll give them the 1 month cow crap test. If they pass then they're oooo-tay

I said that part fast, I meant to say, '"8.5" but they come in most regular sizes. I am sure the cow pie test would do well. Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
