    Hey Josh, we use a hillbilly hay feeder and it works great with a round bale. I LOVE your feeders! They are awesome! I think Stoney Creek has the same ones!

    I build ones similar to these but with raised floors and in the middle i have 2x6 riser so the bottom of your bale sits higher then the bottom bar. The goats eat that first and will work there way up i also use 3x3 squares (so small kids cant get there heads in there and get injured) so they actually have to work for it it makes them sooo less picky. I also make mine so they load sideways i have mine in a feedlot setup so i dont have to move any gates just swing the side open and load it in. Ive made 5 so far i feed mostly large sqaures though and there is nothing left. They will lick that 2x6 riser clean when fully collapsed. Ive also made one that i can load 3 squares into at once and it lasts me about 3 weeks (depending if on the season, winter they eat alot more hay then in the summer) on 83 does w kids. Great video I enjoy them.

    This was awesome to watch, thank you! I've been feeding square bales (small herd of just 9 & convenient) but may need to switch to round bales due to availability in my area and price. Now I have a much better idea how to feed the round bales. Also, I can see the cradle type as being a good one for my use - I'm reclaiming hillsides into pasture with the goats, and the 'waste' hay could be used as part of the improvement of the land, just keep moving it each time it's loaded. Question - with a small herd, I would think covering the hay with say, a tarp, would increase the longevity of the bale. What do you think of that idea?

  • @BoisDArcKikos

    @BoisDArcKikos

    Yes I would most definitely cover the hay to make it last longer. Thanks for watching we appreciate it

    Buddy of mine uses similar feeder and found that if you raise the legs up 3-4" and goats can feed from bottom edge edge of the sides and sliding gates. He's seen lazy ones laying down munching from the bottom because it's easier to get to, but can't get under the sides... Crazy Critters!... lol

    Is there a square bale feeder you have used that you like? Me tractor hasn’t grown up up yet so no round bales for me yet, but that sliding feeder is a great set up. Ok and this may be dumb question but if it rains will they still eat the hay afterward?

    That will be my next video over smaller hay feeders for square hay. Yes they will still eat it. We store the round hay out in the open. In the winter they go through it pretty good. Thanks for watching

    I was going to purchase a Ketcham last year, but it was out of stock still out. Could be pandemic or lack of workers. Mountain Veiw doesn't list theirs on website either. Looks like everyone is making the easy to make stuff. The others that make similar products are all around 1k. Don't want to but I will have to make it myself if I want it. Have made 3 of the horizontal ones. First two still a lot of waste. Haven't tried newest design yet. Wish I could find a used Ketcham.
