Vlog #530 Cappadocia, Turkey // Today just wasn’t our day! This is one of the “rawest” vlogs we have ever posted. It started out great by getting up at sunrise to watch the hot air balloon festival that happens everyday in this beautiful town. Next we went on a super early walk to fly the drone, and unfortunately that ended badly by crashing into a ferry chimney… We still wanted to make the most of our last day by walking around the Goreme open air museum which was awesome. Then we took a picnic on a hike until it started raining! This where we had to end this video… so to see what happens, we will post the next video on Tuesday!

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” and taking more trips together and finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and travel hacking over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this KZread channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling. So we extended our 1 year trip to THREE years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before 2020! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)

Thanks to our new friends Aaron and Rach, we now have a new drone! Not only did they insist on gifting it to us, they filled the rest of the shipment with two of our favorite things, coffee and chocolate! 😭😭😭We are so grateful for them and this incredible KZread community! Thank you❤

Oh NO! To be continued?? The suspense! This was a great one...the stages of grief! I laughed so hard at that!! Kara you are so good at editing.
"All the good caves are taken." LOL!
One of the most admirable things about you guys is how you handle a negative situation and try to minimize the fallout realizing you're still lucky in most ways that count. A trait that everyone ought to learn.
For such a sad vlog crashing the drone, I chuckled way too much. Between Nate finding the homeless people, Kara waddling down the hill trying not to fall, and the rain footage at the end....I loved this vlog too much. 💛

Well at least dronie boy died while doing his favorite thing, flying and making cool video's.
Good of Kara to back off and give Nate a LOT of space to deal with his agonising emotions!
You have some of the kindest commenters on youtube, it's a joy to be amongst good people!

I'll pour one out for Mr Drone, he died doing what he loved!
Awww. Stages of grief and footage shout outs were perfect for the passing of a dear drone friend
Thanks for the jump scare at 13:11 Kara, I almost spat a mouthful of coffee across my keyboard lol. I hope you made it back in time for your flight, I guess we will have to see in the next episode :D
Kara, will you do a video on your travel wardrobe? You always look so chic and put together for living out of a suitcase and backpack! Would love to see your strategy.
OMG .... I actually cried with your drone ceremony. This is what we should be doing, seriously to honor everything we have and experience. Its the highest form of gratitude you can have. RIP drone boy.😥
I hope a drone Co sees this and sponsors your next one - why wouldn't they - great marketing! Great bit as always guys.
Guys, I have to say this is one of the best episodes ... ever! Cappadocia is one of the most beautiful places you’ve been, yet. I’m so glad to tag along with you. Your videos are one of the highlights of my day. Real stuff like rain & getting lost happens to us all and you handle it with a smile and keep your composure always 👍. I’ll be waiting for part two.... And a special goodbye to “Dronie Boy”. Thanks for all the incredible footage you gave us. Will miss you...R.I.P.
I’m now really into Cappadocia from your vlogs! It looks so amazing! Loved today’s vlog... really well done!!!
That time lapse of the balloons at the beginning was the best thing ever! So beautiful! But so sad about the drone! RIP Drone Boy!
*Dronie Boy* *2016 - 2018* Rest in peace. We will never forget you. You are now taking amazing footage in heaven. 💔 🙏
I can't express how much I look up to you two. I genuinely get so excited when you post a new video and feel so much joy watching. Not only are you insanely informative, but I also feel like we are besties. Truly I am so grateful for you two!

That makes me SO HAPPY! We are so glad you enjoy our videos ❤
Seeing a place in the sun is amazing, but there is something that changes when the clouds come and especially in an ancient, rural place like that - it makes it incredible, almost magical. And from my experience, if you can catch a lightning storm from a safe distance over that sort of valley - the imagery is just breathtaking. ;D Love the vlog, makes me want to go there. - Polly
This place is the most beautiful place I've ever seen. You can find sea und beach several times all over the world, but THIS is unique 😍
Hi Kara and Nate, awesome vlog - funny we are actually right here where you filmed this just hike rose and red valley - it's amazing here. We have temps in the high 30's and it's so hot - no rain today. The drone mishap is a nightmare - very stressful and so easy to do - Loved this thanks for sharing Chris & Marianne x
aww man it was such epic shots the crash!
Cmon nate.. don't be so harsh to yourself.. you need a hug.. a big one from my side brother.. things happen.. was so honest of you to put it on the vlog.. and remember we all are here for you.. 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
Holy bucket-list! Cappadocia is incredible. I didn't realize the majority of the world's hot air balloons fly there!
Thanks for bringing this memorable part of my 1992 Turkey trip back to life! I love how you guys don’t overproduce your vids. It’s a real-life adventure everytime I watch an episode! Can’t believe how much Cappadocia has changed since my time there. The hot air ballon industry was practically non-existent back then! As a travel blogger who only occasionally adds vlogs to KZread, I am amazed at Kara’s editing skills too. I know how much time goes into a 5 to 10-minute video and finding MUSIC is a big time suck. Glad you guys love what you do. Keep rockin’ 👍

Hey! Glad you like our vids :) Our guide was telling us that he was one of the first companies to start flying there, and it was around ‘92!! So I’m sure it is TOTALLY different now! 🎈❤️
Wow what a crazy day you guys had!!! My sister and I had to admit defeat once on a hike... we were lost, inexperienced and running out of daylight so we called for help and the police sent a search and rescue helicopter! I hope it wasn't as dramatic for you guys. But I'm just going to have to wait and see... ahh the suspense!
almost 300k subscribers!!! so excited for you guys. So well-deserved!!!
Oooo love a good cliffhanger! 11/10 on the storytelling in this one!

I love the Geography teacher inside Kate! She explained the formation of the rock structures so beautifully 🤘
such an amazing timelapse! I think thats one of our favorites
Iam so sorry about the drone, but i still think this is one of you’re best video’s exploiring and showing you’re emotions! Love from Amsterdam

Kara you look so cute the way you are dressed in this video. Love your videos. Just awesome!
Nate jumping down that ladder was hilarious. 🏃I'm out. Too bad about the drone you guys. The footage did look really good though. - Trevor
I'm a new subscriber. I have been binge watching y'all for about three days now. You two are so great. :) I really appreciate your vids and love for life and adventures, and of course for each other. Kara you really crack me up lady! Keep laughing and smiling! Love you guys. Hugs from California. :)
Kara, your eulogy on Dronie Boy was the best eulogy I've ever seen/heard for a non-living thing. It's funny if it isn't sad ☺
Amazing 👌 Landscapes 👍 Particularly at 10:00 , though its cloudy ... 😉 👏👏👏 thank you !
I love Turkey so much! Loved the vlog! So sad that I wasn’t able to vlog my turkey trip! Safe travels !
So sorry to see what happened with your drone. Thank you for editing in even the little bit of raw emotion, which makes your vlogs authentic. I’m thankful someone else stepped up to provide another. I thank God for you, even though we will probably never meet on this side of eternity. Indiana has some hidden gems if your path should lead you our way. We LIVE TN!
Such a great video! Cappadocia looks so cool! I love how optimistic you guys are, especially when something bad happens. Also love that you included the moment when it hit the rock, rather than just telling us it happened.
I had a really great visit to Cappadocia a few years ago. It’s easily the most magical place I’ve ever been! The owner of our little family-run hotel took us around and explained that the Rose Valley caves were inhabited until, iirc, 20-30 years ago. They were modern accommodations, just...in caves. It’s where he grew up. But the government decided it wasn’t safe and forced everyone to move out. So a lot of the freestanding homes in Goreme and Aden are pretty new, built to accommodate people who had to move out of caves. The families still own the land where the caves are so they can farm whatever patches of arable land they might have, so there are little scattered plots growing almonds, apricots, etc.
I'm sorry about the drone. You passed through the different stages of grief a lot faster than I would have! I would have been stuck on the anger phase for awhile. The open air museum was incredible!
Awww, the woman started singing to welcome you, not to make you go away.
Love this episode! Probably my favorite to date! Glad you have a new drone on the way!!
Hey Kara and Nate, I drowned my brand new 1000$ Mavic just two days after I bought it in May this year. I was angry at myself for committing such a silly mistake and sad for days after that. I cried. Looking at Nate's state of mind and the stages (Anger, Depression, Acceptance), my eyes were wet again. It brought the feelings back. The rawness of the vlog made it more real. Take care you guys! What I loved even more than that was how you both came back, almost immediately, in the vlog. Back to your humour, your smiling faces, your cute selves. Ending the vlog on a cliffhanger- well, I'm glad I'm watching this late so I can jump to the next one immediately. Haha..But before that, I thought this comment was important and ought to be shared with you.
Sorry to hear you had such a rough day. It’s so nice to see how positive you both stayed throughout it all. Btw, that is a really beautiful place!
Knowing you've already replaced the drone made that easier to watch. The beginning with the balloons is amazing!!!
RIP Drone Boy... :( On the plus side, DJI has new Mavics in their range to research... :) Packable rain jackets would've saved you getting drowned out... That ending... Hilarious... :)
I love that you upload in the mornings! it's the perfect way to start the day :)
OMG this video lol, what a disaster but I loved it. It's kinda awesome because you both always seem to have you selves together. But getting lost in the rain right before your flight! Epic!
Loved this episode! It was nice to see when things don't go to plan, obviously don't mean the drone crash, that sucked! The best tours are the ones you make yourself and in Cappadocia that is really easy as there are amazing places everywhere! The rain sucked though and you looked to be a long way away from home! Looking forward to see if you will make it back in time for your flight!!! Thanks for sharing!

Love the humour in the ‘dronie boy’ segment
Wow, loved this episode, oh the suspense! And you guys showed a side of Cappadocia that I have not seen in other videos. Loved it!
Great vlog, can't wait for part 2!!! Love your earings Kara! Funny drone memorial 😂
Ahhh!! Don’t leave me hangin’! Loved watching this episode and can’t wait to see how the adventure ends. You guys do an awesome job of making even the worst days seem like adventures I’d like to take with you! 😀😀
Yep, Kara - I was worried about snakes too just watching this! Hope there's a happy ending to this - can't wait!
This was my fave episode. Loved the drone crash phases of grief subtitle commentary (you should have more subtitle commentary, they are hilarious and all too infrequent), homeless people encounter, caught in the storm moment. That’s travel. Really drew me in 👍🏽
You guys are so awesome and having lunch in a thousand year old cave is epic. Just started watching you guys and I already binge watched all your videos. You guys rock. Keep doing your thing.
Awwwww guys my heart sank when I heard the drone crash...As a tech nerd I am not sure there could be a sadder sound except the rain hitting your mic as you are lost in the countryside....Very happy to hear you got a beautiful gift coming to you
The cinematic quality of your videos have gone up significantly !!! Just wow !

You two are over the top I just love to watch your stuff stay safe and keep the vlogs a coming.
Another great video. Kara and Nate are on my regular schedule. I’m catching up some of the older videos. And, yes, Kara is so adorable.
You guys have had the most magical journey around the world ever. The activities and accommodations you sought out were so, so special. What a superb achievement.
One of the best youtube channels there is!!!
Omg thank you for being so honest in your vlogs!!! And Kara cracked me up with the stages of grief! Lol y’all are so great!!!!
Another great episode.. I can't wait for part 2.
Ok. Probably one of my fave vlogs from u guys. Lmao the drama and emotions just make it entertaining!
OMG a literal cliff-hanger! I do feel like we wouldn't be watching this if you had perished in the Red Valley. Excellent job.
Omg I love this video ! Huge mixture of emotions but all worth it ! you guys are the sweetest ever, I've just discovered your channel 2 days ago and I've been watching ur vids non stop ! Can't wait for the next vlog.

SO NICE! It's being a while since I moved to Cappadocia / Turkey and started my own youtube channel about the topic BUT I am always into tourists videos because of their different points of view. We can always learn something. AWESOME!
I feel bad for laughing, but that drone tribute cracked me up anyway! Luckily I see that someone helped save the day by sending a new one. Yay for Aaron and Rach! This video was entirely too exciting. I laughed, I cried...well...not really, but still. Love you two!

I loved your vlog and all the rest of them. Y'all took us through ur day in an amazing way. Makes you feel so many emotions watching it.
What a dramatic day for you guys. Looking forward to seeing what happens in the next one. Also really loving the edits where you speed up and slow down. It looked particularly awesome in this one with the epic scenery.
Oh my God it is like a thrilling season finale!!! Can't wait for the next video
Awww damn man! Sorry to hear about the drone! 😞 and sorry you guys got rained on. But, on the bright side, awesome vid. Can’t wait for the continuation!
your videos are so inspiring. just stay positive and be happy!!!
Loved this one!!...I love all, but great vlog 👏🏼
More often than not, when I watch your vlogs, I immediately want to go the place you guys visited because you do such a spectacular job of documenting it. However, I feel this is one of the most fascinating vlogs!! I have seen many other instagramers and KZreadrs capture Cappadocia but you guys are class apart!!! but just one thing, please don't end your blogs on such cliffhangers. I can't wait for the part two. The suspense will kill me!
thks for the video, so happy that both of you get a new drone from kind soul Aaron and Rach. Yippi...we can see more beautiful scenery.. Ha3. take care guys, have fun
Can not wait for next episode lol
I love the colors in this vlog. The dark clouds and the light makes it so amazing.
U guys inspired me to go and explore. There will be problem but the satisfaction of feeling one with the world is what matters the most. Love your vlogs keep it going :D
sounds like we should be friends with Aaron and Rach! haha .... Thats awesome I'm glad you guys have a new drone!! Hope you guys got back okay and didn't miss your flight !
😮😳Snickers and strong coffee time😳😮 RIP Sir drones A lot
Aw...well you've had so few really rough days of travel in your almost three years, it's amazing really. Waiting on the edge of my seat to see how you get out of this mess.
This was super good! It’s always fun exploring even if it rains
Oh no! The drone....it did have a good run and gave us many beautiful views....surprising it didn't happen sooner (all due to your incredible flying skills Nate). 2 things I loved about this video the shots and time lapse of the hot air balloons are incredible. And seeing Nate go through the stages of grief so quickly lol. Oh also because of you guys I'm addicted to my local empanada food truck and after hating water rides for a very long time finally built the courage to just go for it this summer (your natural waterfall water slide beats all the rides at Splish Splash). You guys truly inspire me .
This was hilarious! The rain, the drone tribute, the homeless camp... I particularly loved the look on Kara's face when Nate said, "that would be admitting defeat". HAHA!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 guys you were great! I really really laughed and enjoyed this vid! 😘😘😘
I love you guys and honestly I wish I could travel the world like you guys. You are such an inspiration as I never miss a video. 😍😍😍
