Heads up - the shortcut for the Pen tool is (G), not (P). I had changed my keyboard shortcuts recently to make P the pen tool in After Effects and forgot to change it back. Sorry for the confusion! -Robbie

Helpful, relaxed tutorial. Robbie is one of the few on-camera tutorial hosts who doesn't annoy me. Well done!

I can't even begin to tell you how helpful this was. Thank you!
Excellent video! 0:52 "Masking is like the OG way of rotoscoping" XD Great!
Rotoscoping is easier if you make masks separating the parts of the object. With less points to control, the easier it gets to animate the masks. And sometimes it avoids doing the work frame by frame. You can interpolate the movement, so it’s less hazle than moving multiple points frame after frame. \o/

Hey dude, I just wanna say, I really appreciated your tutorial. I subscribed after about 1 minute of watching because I like the way you explain things, and you have an overall charisma that helps the videos flow. It's hard to find tutorials where the person explaining the process doesn't love to hear themselves talk. As a creative, I appreciate your tutorials a ton. THANKS!
ohmygosh i’ve watched so many tuts but this was the only one actually understandable THANK YOU SO MUCH
This helped in so many ways man thank you so much for your knowledge we truly appreciate you!
Loved it, to the point. :) Great pace and nice examples.

This was a good piece mate.
thank u bro. this is what i wanted to learn in rotoscoping.
Good comparison and shows how fast the newer tool is to work with.
Awesome, wish I knew this a long time ago, thanks.

Great tutorial, nice tips good pace
very cool thank you! for the roto-brush part, i would've liked to see the "Freeze" button explained and exactly what to do when you're finished adjusting every frame that's interesting

Thank you for this tutorial. I'm new to rotoscoping so this video is basically my Bible.
Very nice. Thanks for sharing that. One question. How could I copy that selection defined by rotobrush and use it, for example, as a path to an audio spectrum or a stroke?
Always try the AE rotoscoping feature before you subject yourself to this arduous frame by frame pen too method.

Thanks so much for this! I'm trying to rotoscope a quick 7sec video using the rotobrush and its taking forever-do you have any recommendations on how to speed up the process? I'm on macbook pro with 16GB of memory. It seems like any tiny adjustment I make takes 5mins to "propogate" and only gets longer with each adjustment!
That was so helpful tho! Thanks a bunch
Homie really gave me a website to practice the pen tool, i really cant thank you enough
what if it just outlines the whole image after trying to outline one thing?
THANK YOU! THIS WAS AWESOME! Do you have any tips for someone editing a photo that wants to make the background edited?
amazing tutorial SUBSCRIBED
amazing bruh
I used to hate the pen tool, but made myself learn it and now it's easy and less of a hassle. I spent one all-nighter cutting out objects from pictures. If you can remember when and how to use the Alt/Option Key and Control/Command/Apple key, it will come together for you. THAT and how to continue a path.

Great tip on using the refine edge tool, my only complaint is the propagating. My Lil 13inch Pro M1 fan kicked on big time to render my roto on a green background.
dude just save my life!!!
Great quick tutorial. Does it have to propagate as you go, or can you skim and check as needed?
nicceeeee...I LIKE!!
thanks man
Thanks! 5:20 for rotobrush tool instead of masking manually
This was good
thankyou to save my time
Thanks for the video. You made it sound super easy. My question is it only worked for the first three seconds when I ran it with my other comp. Do I need to do it again and again. It jumped back into the original background. Or is this a Ram issue? I do have an older Mac with only 8GB or RAM.
Thanks bro
Thank you because I did not know what it was

Apparently rotoscope in the current Beta version of AE is active and automatic for each frame and pretty accurate.
How can you add a line which goes around the object. I want to add this to a building
Good tutorial. I just wish you had magnified when selecting menu options (such as selecting "Stopwatch") as we cannot actually see anything as to what you are selecting.
Always been interested in trying this! Great tutorial!

That clicks of rotobrush saved my day
Lo-hove this! Also, I notice it takes so much time to propogate! I have a dynamic link from PP and I went to edit the original because I missed some frames (should have watched your video- my roto took 13hrs so I ignored some spots but now I want to fix them. I used a proxy set up in premiere but still, my computer is taking a long time to get through this. Also, I didn't see you mention freeze and unfreeze. I unfreezed so I could use the rotobrush again in my layer on the frames that need touch up. Oh, I also want to use that skin color changing effect... I'm subscribing. Thanks for any answers!
your options and setting look completely different from mine. is it do to a newer update?
Thankyou
*That tone when he said be sure to hit the stopwatch BEFORE rotoscoping hit hard.*
Do you have tips for rotoscoping footage that is heavily shadowed and it is hard for AE to get a good read background vs actor? Traditional old school roto?
I'm new to After Effects. I have rotoscoped some footage into 2 parts. I have then isolated them and precomposed them separately. When I add the precomp into the main composition that I need them for it seems the mask changes. It removes sections that were not removed before. Any tips?
Great tutorial, succinct and clear.

Hi I was watching the tutorial, but noticed after you clicked the page down button, there is missing the next steps? What do you do after it processes? How do you save it? I am new to this, please let me know, also how do I get the photo I want it to go on top of? how do we mesh these two together please?
my left ear loves this tutorial
NICE VIDEO
is it possible to mask multiple things in a 5 sec clip with each mask having different effects?
Very cool job. How do I make a clean rotoscoping of a moving object with particles? Say a car and dirt from under the wheels + shadow
