The price of everything is a complete joke, a day out for a family easily turns into a £100 plus. Unsustainable when we’re all getting ripped off on housing and utilities as well
Big Man £28.50 to get in ? bloody hell thats 9 double vodka's in my local and a packet of dry roasted nuts lol love your work guys looking forward too the next one already .................
Great vlog guys...keep em coming...I'm sure Helen went in trap 5 and somehow came out of 9...if you like JCB's you and Helen should pop to Diggerland, that'd be a right laugh 😁😋
I live in Chesterfield so I am about 15 minutes from Chatsworth. I'm glad I avoided the Country Fair at those prices. The admission charge was enough to put me off from buying tickets.

Totally agree, I originally come from Buxton …… only about 12 miles from Bakewell, I guess Chatsworth is maybe 3 or 4 from Bakewell ……. I live in Whaley Bridge, High Peak now ……. But £28 pounds for the Entry fee alone Scandalous. I remember my sister years ago going to the Chatsworth shop with my aunt, she had bought a few things one was a Cheap looking Chatsworth Pen for £5 ……. God only knows what Americans think of prises there! Because lots of them go, my wife is American she’s loves the house because it was in the movies, mini series Pride & Prejudice. 🙄🤮
brilliant video sorry helen im with james the rotherham fair wins hands down, £28.50 each for practically the same stalls & food vans , plus its local so not as far to travel so saving on fuel to get there, win win❤❤

After giving it more thought we've decided that Rotherham was much better 😊
I must be trapped in a time warp. My young colleagues tell me they spend at least £150 on a night out in Leeds. I used to go out with 20 quid and still have a pocket full of copper the following morning. I'm glad I just have a few beers in the house these days.
I would have went back with the food and asked for my money back because it was unfit for eating. The same with the sickly sweet Cider. Good advice to people to bring packed lunches.
Gotta have bubbles in cider! 😀 Mind you, when I worked in the 'scrumpy house' in Salisbury, the old boys drank the flat from a barrel and if a bit of the barrel lining was included, all the better!!! (Never did understand that bit!!!😂) Another smashing 'drinks information' video thank you both

Here's something which is now a lot more expensive, which used to be a cheap day out. Pick your own fruit! Some farms charge something like £3 to £4 entry fee per person including children, before you've even paid for the strawberries you pick (There was never entry fees years ago). It used to be a way to get a load of strawberries for a lower price than the supermarkets. Also they now often require a slot to be booked, so you can't just call in if you pass the farm.
@lesles23

I enjoyed today's comparison. I'm with you, Chatsworth is just greedy. They charge exorbitant fees for stallholders, which is then passed on to the public. Just a ripoff. In a word appalling .😮😮 😮😮😮😮😮😮

Plenty of hedgerows off the beaten track providing Blackberries by the bucket load. Same for Elderberrys if you like to make your own plonk.
Very good videos of your visit to Chatsworth country fair and the Rotherham fair. Food and drink traders at these events have to charge the prices they do because the greedy organisers have most likely charged them 1k - 2k + per day to pitch up there. The 4 day Burleigh Horse show and country fair was here just north of Peterborough last weekend. If you wanted to go for the full 4 days, it would cost you, including parking and admission two people just over £500, if you paid on the gate. If you pre-booked online, the price came down to £285.

I agree, the food vendors are charged a fortune but they should still serve palatable food 😊
Living in rural Somerset there's a lot of mullets.
Used too GO to Chatsworth farm shop for wild boar Sausages when Visiting Sister in Laws in Sheffield ,But I used to Darlington Show many Years ago ,Many country shows in North Yorkshire ,Allways a good day Out .
We had to have a brek for us tea betweent two (pause button): Ham and cheese, lettuce and cucumber sarnies (crusts in - we know where our bread's low fat spreaded!) 😮.
Love the vlog, thank you both 😁
Highlight of the week, thank you for the upload guys 👍
Loved this video. The entrance cost is disgusting and charges for food and drink well I cannot bring myself to pay those prices, but watching your video for free really helps.. love your Yorkshire sense of humour and comments from Helen.. you got a mention on a Tenerife Vlogger friend of ours “ Just Rick” by one person on the Chat.. keep doing the work you’re good at it.. Agreed. Same down here in Cornwall with the Royal Cornwall show. Ridiculous entrance fee for essentially a trade show and ripped off beyond words with food and drink. I stopped going several years ago. Prices for food and drink in general now are not viable for most working class people as incomes have not gone up to compensate. It's insane.

Was a great watch James/Helen but that`s life these days ... A couple of nights in Llandudno would have been more cost effective i think .. These vendors simply don`t use logic because if they halved their prices and gave better service they would still make a handsome profit and prob triple their sales ... Sad really but enjoyed the tour!

Another enjoyable video guys, I'm sure I would have turned around and made for somewhere else at £28.50 each for one day. Being Chatsworth perhaps they thought if we charge that amount it will keep the Hoy Polloi out, like those beer drinking pub crawler types, you know the ones 😘. So that leather cleaner, restorative, polish stuff, I bought a tub of that at the Usk agricultural show the year before lockdown and I must say it does last and that it's very good, I've been useing it on shoes, coats, and furniture, only paid a tenner for mine and at £15 still a worthwhile purchase.👍

As been mentioned before the price stallholders have to pay for the space or an inside stall is astronomical. Less than 10 years ago i would pay around £10 for a pitch at a country town/village fete or fun day. Now the expectation is around £30, which for hobbyists and handcrafters is a lot. 4 day events are for those who make a living from their wares, so whether its a village fete or country mansion fayre, they are the ones making the real money by charging exorbitant amiunts for pitches and stalls.
Part of the charm of your videos is how it brings back memories in us oldsters of similar times here in Canada. The Fair we had in my younger days was wonderful... cheap & cheerful, dirty with sideshows that charmed as much as they exploited the dancing girls and the unfortunates in the Freak Shows. Times have changed... political correctness pulled the teeth of the sideshows, the Fair got cleaner, more expensive and more boring. Anyway... thanks for sharing your adventures. P.S. If you are earning money from your videos; can't you claim the cost of meals at Fairs, etc as a business expense on your taxes? That would make the price gouging a little more bearable.

I like this video Helen & James as I thought it was just me that complained about the prices at these sort of events. That is the part I go for is the food and drink, but like you, I walk from stall to stall and end up buying nothing and calling into a chippy when we leave. ALSO, now its just arrived is the Christmas Market 2023 (I live in Manchester so that is the one I am moaning about) where they are extremely dear for the food and drink. (you might want to do a review on a Christmas Market maybe) (at least you don't have to pay to get in) (yet). So I have seen a few of your videos, the last one being Benidorm Fiesta, and I am liking them so now I have just subscribed but not sure where I am in the 1.7k subscribers. So now I am backtracking through your videos watching them and playing catchup. I don't know your ages, but I am 65 and wish I had done something like this when I was younger. But they didn't have Cinetube in those days. 😝😝😝 Best Wishes. Colin. P.S. I won't tell anybody I saw you laughing and smiling James 21:48 🤫🤫 🤭🤭🤭🤭

Helen's comment about the bread truck brought back memories of the 60's. Mom use to buy dad's bread from it, only place you could find it. I always wanted a chocolate brownie from it, didn't always get one but happy when I did. I would choose the free Council Show over the pay to get in fair. One looks just as good as the other so why not pick the one for free. We had one county fair in the Summer and the first day of the fair always kicked off with a parade first. Later, we started getting Street Fairs down Main Street, especially near to Christmas time. Thanks James and Helen for the fair share.🎪🎡🚜🍟🍻😊

Hi Helen.. where did you get your lovely check trousers from please?... you look great 👍
I remember the bread van coming round. There was also the pop lorry, the fish man, a lorry selling sacks of spuds and a mobile shop. All gone now but amazingly the Rington Tea vans are still on the go. It absolutely baffles me how a firm selling tea & biscuits from vans can exist in 2023. They run brand new Ford Transit Connects that cost upwards of £22k. Then they have staff to pay, premises, stock and all the related overheads (insurance, tax, fuel, rates etc.) You have to sell an awful lot of tea and biscuits just to break even. How the hell do they do it? I mean who buys boxes of tea and biscuits on the doorstep in this day and age?
