@@Art101 tessellation:) I read to be a good one you do a silhouette test, ie make it all black and if you cant discern the shape it isnt good

Great job! We are so impressed. What paper and brand of colored pencils are you using? We did the dog tessellation and could not layer the colors with Crayola colored pencils are well as you did. The colors would not overlap as much as yours.

Hi Jackie, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. The paper is just 80 lb drawing paper...nothing that special. 80 lb is thick enough to be able to use it for watercolor or tempera paint and not curl much. I'm actually using Crayola pencils for these tessellations. I use them because that is what most teachers have available to them. The key is to layer the colors starting with the lightest color and gradually add the darker colors. Apply colors lightly and don't press down hard until the last layer. If you want to step up the quality of your color pencils, use Prismacolors. The student grade is fine. They blend a lot easier and the colors are richer and brighter. They are more expensive, but it may make the process a bit easier. I'm glad you like the project. It seems Tessellations are my most popular videos. I guess I should make some more. Have fun! Matt

Towelies Yes, you can use different sized paper not just a square. Keep your white border and just let your design go off the edge. Your edge tiles won’t be a complete image but that ok. Good question!

one question: we need to think of image first or just need to identify the image in randomly cut paper. if need to think of image first then how to proceed? please reply

This project works best if you cut the paper first and see what image comes to mind. I find it better not to try to force something. You may be able to try to cut your paper and try to predict to make it look like something predetermined, but I have not had too much success doing that. Maybe make 3 or 4 and look at them, turn them around and see what you can find. Then pick the best of the 4 and go with it. Thanks for your question! I hope you have fun with your Tessellation.
