Some tips and info. Your axle is a simifloat, hence the bolts at the end of the axle tube. Full float axles have bolts for the axle shaft on the very end of the hub. Big trucks use those kind. C clip axles are like what was said in the vid, but youll never see that with a 3rd member because you cant axcess the c clips. 9in diff is stonger than 8.8 because the pinion is supported by a bearing on both sides of the pinion gear and ofcourse the ring gear difference adds strength. prussian blue works but actual yellow gear marking compound is definitely better. Your gear pattern is set by your pinion depth. Back lash will effect it slightly but major changes will be in pinion depth. The spanners are what you're calling the shims. Calling them shims is fine really but you know the internet. Spanners set your backlash as well as your bearing preload. Setting preload on tape bearings is just as critical as backlash. Since you took your pinion nut off you'll also need to set pinion preload and possibly put in a new crush sleeve unless it's shim style pinion gear. Pinion preload differs with new vs old bearings. Hope that helps

I forgot to mention the spanners are threaded. Set your bearing caps, hand tighten and Turn the spanners by the holes to adjust. If you torque your caps you won't be able to adjust the spanners.

I love fast cars, but I'm a electronics guy and know my way around a circuit extremely well, but mechanics? no idea, never really fooled around with it. I love that you are doing this and I gotta say; I already liked you mate, but the fact you are willing to just feel your way through this live on youtube, without GAF about the old boys in the comments, makes me appreciate you even more.

Cleeter is such a stand up guy he probably would help a thief break into his house. Even helped with tips for a wheelie. “ Throw some sand bags in the back and send it brother.” Adam looked like a kid at Christmas pulling the axles out. Isn’t the pitman arm attached to the steering box and idler arm is on the passenger side? Holy low tire pressure Batman. Adam needs to do a giveaway and the winner gets to come down and rage on the Navy Bean. That front bumper needs some super glue. It’s friendly and waving at us. At least Cleeter didn’t jinx em with the ole “ I can’t think of a single thing that could go wrong.” Excellent video Adam. I need the Navy Bean.

Thats simply not in your normal wheelhouse of what you work on and thats fine, its not what you know its that you know where to get the info to get it done. From the beginning when i saw the 9” i was like…..yea he’s probably going to fk something up….and was talking you thru it the whole time but you didnt listen😂. Lol, this is genuinely funny content. I've never worked on a rear end, and I knew from watching car shows growing up that you didn't need to pull anything you did, and that you had to pull the axels. I was always one of the forum guys who defended 'dumb questions' because no one is born knowing anything, much less everything. This car is not high up on my list of interests but the videos have been great.

Watching Adam struggle to remove a 3rd member was the highlight of my day haha pop the axles out then remove the whole 3rd member. Even Miata’s use 3rd members just with IRS instead of the straight axle.

This little Datto looks really fun.. Ive seen a few with 13B transplants done here in Aus. I used to have a 79 Mazda 626 (the RWD ones) that i upgraded with 13B Rotary .. Awesome little car, they actually have the same running gear as the first series RX7s (FB).. To run it with a Rotary, I used a cut down RX4 single piece drive shaft. Worked well but the only real issue it had was it chopped out UV joints all the time.. Suggest just checking them regularly as I found out the hard way what happens when one snaps..

So, I'm gonna be one of those guys in the comments. But just for a moment haha. I've grown up working on Fords and own a few. Also a "posi" is for GMs. All that out of the way, this was so entertaining. Especially Cleeter laughing at the shenanigans. Super hyped about this build!!!
