Ross mastered the social media influencer look/persona (spray tan, ridiculously whitened teeth, leather pants, fake accent) LONG before THAT ever became a thing! He truly was, as Phoebe said, ahead of his time!

The storyline with Ross's teeth is one of the most brilliant ideas on Friends. That brief moment when Ross covers his teeth with a slice of bread and pretends to smell it is one of the funniest things I've ever seen on this show. Such a small thing, but David stole the show, he is a genius!

This has stood out in my mind as one of the funniest episodes they ever did. It's been so many years since I saw it and still remember a lot of it. Was just telling my mom, and got a few laughs out of her,like the part when the lights go down and he scares his date when his teeth glow in the dark. I have this border who has unnaturally white teeth. First thing I noticed when he interviewed. Sure enough he uses whitening strips and must do it probably too often. I think you take the enamel off if you over use them. It's fine to want whiter teeth, but when you overdo it like that, you look movie star phony. That's what was so funny about this. It was made at the beginning of the craze of teeth whitening. We're used to stars all doing it now, but if you see older shows, before they did, everyone was normal back then. Even in this episode though, every cast member is still unnaturally white.

Honestly, if this happened to a guy I had a date with I’ll just laugh it off…it’s funny but harmless. A nice conversation and a funny memory to have with a possible partner. I’d think the guy 1) cares enough about our date to whiten his teeth, 2) he is a bit careless and unintentionally dumb and 3) he has a sense of humor if he allows himself to make fun of it with me.

It's not just Ross, so many situations in rom-coms or sit-coms could be resolved with just a few honest words between adults. His acting talent shone through in this scene, but his unwillingness to be honest and her unwilligness to accept whitened teeth was a bit forced.

This isn't how normal people act. Again, this is a sitcom. Sitcoms operate on completely different rules. The absurdity is part of the humor.
