Rose shoots her first elk - WARNING - there is blood
Ойын-сауық
We uncovered our very first video footage from 2009 when Rose shoots her first elk. There is something very special about being this close to a big game animal and Rose was pretty excited.
If you do not like hunting or seeing animals processed for food, this is the wrong video for you. WARNING - there is blood.
Rose uses her new Tikka T3 Lite .243 with Barnes Triple Shock solid copper bullets and watch to the end to see what it did!

Who says you shouldn't use a .243? Shot placement. Shot placement. Shot placement... and Rose, your shot placement was perfect. As soon as I saw the impact on the bull's chest, I knew he was a goner. If you can kill an elk with a bow, you can sure as hell kill it with a .243 especially if you're a woman of the woods like Rose. Either that or Rose missed completely and the elk was so overcome with her charm and beauty that his heart just exploded.

It's not the .243.....it's the placement and the triple shock bullet.....best Elk bullet out there. You can see the hair move from the shot.....it was a heart shot.....and he was moving!

Shot an elk this fall with .243 and hornady bullets. Took the top off his heart and he didn’t go 60 yards.
Awesome shot! And video proof that Rose doesn't age.

My goodness if there ever was a “keeper” then this lady personifies that. Beautiful, intelligent, articulate and a great wife and mother p, what’s not to like and then we consider Elk downed by a 243 with a heart shot. To be her first and control all the nerves and emotions that occur is just plain awesome. What a lady and what a team

I always find that putting the bullet in the right place is much more important than the calibre as a bad shot is a bad shot no matter what you use so .243 is ok .
11 years later and just as exciting, thanks for uploading the old footage! So cool
yes yes, 243 is light, but its Rose.. and she made the money shot. perfect placement.. Nice job Rose!

@@VeeVeeVeeV , .243 is a great gun. It is a smaller bullet, which is why people say it is "light weight". The .243 is a .308 casing necked down and loaded with a 6mm bullet. It is less forgiving if you make a poor shot, but then you aren't guaranteed anything even with large calibers on a poor shot.

@@VeeVeeVeeV The difference is she used a Barnes bullet. If she used a soft point lead core copper jacket bullet and hit bone the bullet would have been mostly disintegrated and not penetrated very much. It still would have killed the elk but it would have been slow and painful. Barnes are all copper bullets and dont disintegrate really. Barnes just keep plowing thru everything till the energy of the bullet is extinguished, shredding everyrhimg in its path. Nasty lil buggers. The bright side of them is that you can eat up to the bloodshot meat and dont have to worry about lead poisoning.
There was only a few seconds window for Rose to shoot that moving elk....that woman was focused! I'm always amazed with Jeff's ability to spot an animal in a maze of brush and trees....even at a long distance away.....and his camera work has been superb thru the years off-grid. I've also been amazed with how well he keep all their rifles zeroed in.....wonder how many rounds he uses on targets to do that. Love this family!!!!!!!
Dang Rose. What a shot. "Spirit of the wild" worthy. Congratulations.
We love your lifestyle, and following your journey.
Congratulations...The Rose knows! Great shot.
I know that it was 11 years ago but Wow, great shooting Rose! Nothing wrong with a 243 as long as you can get good shot placement. I get flack from all the 30.06 hunters for my 300 Savage Lever action. My Dad bought it for me when I was young and I am now 65 and have lost track of how many deer that I have killed with it. Brings them down as well as any 30.06. Good job Rose!
What a shot! 🏆 Rose you are young in this, but you look like you’re maybe two years older now! Must be all the good food, fresh air, and great company! Amazing video!
the feeling of feeding your family on what you brought home yourself is amazing. And the first time you do it is life changing! Congrats Rose! I hope you kept a bit of that animal to remind you of it. I have a bit of antler from my first elk, it's not special to anyone but me but to me it's priceless for it's memories!
11+ years of inappropriate comments..lol. Rose, that was a perfect shot. Very impressive.
Rose is an amazing human being.🌷🌷🌷
I am impressed by how humble and sweet you are about it. You weren't bragging and high-fiving. It's just what you do so casually. That was a good kill shot; I like those because you don't have to chase the animal shooting out of curiosity three times. It went in one side and came tearing out the other right through his heart. That's the best yet and I've seen a lot of them on here. Physically, you didn't change at all in 11 years
Love you guys. Rose is adorable! Great shot Rose. You look like you were about 17 at the time.
God job Rose! Lots of good eats there! Rose's character, smile, and attitude sure seems to add allot to the whole environment of the videos! You guys have such an awesome partnership! The two of you seems so perfect together! Your videos are pure enjoyment to watch! I look forward to watching many more special moments your family experiences through your videos!
The reason I love watching these videos especially of Rose is that she is always so willing to join in and inevitably I see that funny smile and her eyes flash as if she knows a joke we don't. The family is truly a family. So refreshing after all the vulgarity on TV and movies. You guys rock!
I've watched this video so many times but you know what? Rose ROCKS 😂❤️😂
Great shot Rose tough shooting in the timber!
Perfect shot Rose, "we Call her Rose the elk Slayer " 😁 kind regards Stephen Brisbane Australia, love you guys ❤💙❤

So awesome to see different content creators comment. Ive been going through gridlessness videos from start to finish the last few weeks and scrolling the comments I've seen offgrid doug and stacey, the wild beardsman, curtis stone, homewood stoves and now simple living alaska. Ive got this feeling there is a form of organization and community building happening that is completely new in human history due to the internet. I havent quite seen how to fully unlock this potential but the possibilities are truly amazing. Connecting like minded individuals all the way from Alaska to texas, New zealand and all the way to northern europe. A global community which is almost entirely self dependent. As time goes on and this form of organization refines itself and becomes more efficient, the possibilities that arise could redefine the way humans organize themselves amongst a society. Gives me chills thinking about!
Just watched this video. OUTSTANDING Rose. Congrats!
Rose in 9th grade ! Thanks for finding this gem.
The pair off you have a great family, love watching you with all your vids.👍💕
Isn’t it always location, location, location? Beautifully executed shot Rose! Now that’s what’s called “a money shot” Jeff! No wonder your young women are who they are! Look at their example! Love watching anything you guys put out! Always fun! Continued blessings to you all! Keep’em coming!
Amazing vintage video. Enjoyed watching Rose experience hunting/harvesting the elk. You two have created a good life.
What a great looking ammo pouch!
Awesome video, Rose is not only a beautiful woman, but she's also a good mother, a good hunter, intelligent, and a good sense of humor. I've been binge-watching all your video's lately. All the best to you both and the 5 girls.
Our ladies use .243 for whitetails, a little small for elk. However, a well placed round did the job. Nice work young lady.
Rose Is gem...and Jeff knows it You guys are the best
Rose, you could not have made a better shot; and the elk crossing past a smaller window shows patience, timing and knowledge of shot placement. I think you know more than you let on. Congratulations!
Wow great shot- nice harvest- I think the "vintage" videos will be great
Congratulations, Rose! That was an awesome shot. I know how good it feels providing for your family.
You both compliment each other, Rose’s beauty comes from being in love with Jeff, the girls and her life with them.
How many years before this did Jeff bag the real trophy...Rose😉... Everytime I watch makes me want to start recording just for the memories.
Great shot!! And great footage even 11 years ago! This is awesome!!!
Great shot Rose and a great video. Looking forward to seeing the girls going hunting as hunting season is just around the corner. Thanks from down under.
I truly appreciate your honesty. Y'all are real! Thank you so much for sharing your life's experiences. I always look forward to your videos. P.S. Give Dave a hug on camera, for me LOL!!!

I love your channel. I see absolutely nothing wrong with hunting to feed your family. Now, after seeing this video today, you have sent me on a binge watching session of ALL of you hunting videos 😂 Also, I enjoy watching your processing videos of the chickens and pigs and whatnot. You are raising the most beautiful, well rounded girls and you should be very proud of yourself. Love your family 😁❤️😁
The energy in this video in phenomenal. I had tears streaming down my face after Rose made the shot - a little bit because it's sad but more because I acknowledge the amount of work that gets you to that point, and the exchange between human and beast that happens at that moment. Thanks for sharing this vid, way to go Rose!

Fine video once again folks. Good to see you're having good success with the monometal bullets too. We switched to them when our girls started hunting 13 years ago and have been very happy with them as well. Thanks for adding the "ballistic gack" for those of us who like to know. All the best to you all from the south Okanagan.
You guys are great! Thanks
The Gridlessness hunting videos are my favorite. Nice work Rose!
Rose hasn't aged a day. And that was a brilliant shot. A .243 works just fine when you send it through the heart. Your videos always make me smile.
What a great shot! More importantly though, what a great smile!
Man that was exciting!! Hell of a perfect shot. Could not have been better. Congrats!!
Rose had a little more gun in the bear hunt episode when y’all were in the field surrounded by bears. It was a BLR. I think one of the girls carried the .243 in another hunt video. My Dad hunted with a .243 for many years and was very successful. Nice video!!
I can hardly wait for your Saturday morning drops. Love your video's.
Great job Rose. Love the family and video's
Great patience and an incredible shot!
Awesome video and Awesome memories !!!!! Thank You for sharing !!!
Awesome video! Such a beautiful life you have built for your family. I love it!
I thought Rose was pretty dang awesome before...WOW...excellent shot Rose! But now I craving some elk burgers for some odd reason :)
We love your videos... keep them coming
Super fun to watch! I am the proud owner of a Julia wallet. My need for high caliber rifle ammo is low :)
Another great video! Keep them coming.

That was amazing! The shooting proficiency by all of you is remarkable. My wife and friend are sick of me sharing your videos and talking about them. 😆 You guys rock!

243. got the job done, good placement good shot good god, love the vids.
Great shot Rose. Who are those 18 people with the thumbs down? They probably wake up miserable and just spend the day looking for things to bitch about. Thank you for the great family videos.

Amazing. Nice shot to the heart. 😊
I just found tour awesome channel today and I can't stop binge watching! Did I say awesome? It's super awesome! I love your sence of humor also, now I know I'm not alone. But not as funny.
Fine video folks, congratulations on the first bull - we all only get one first of a species once, you know? I looked at the video and thought it was too early for elk even for northern BC - we're still 3 weeks away down here, but it's coming! Thanks for the video and good luck on your hunts this fall.
You guys are awesome, and I love the videos. Great on you two the way you are raising those girls.
Congratulations Rose!!! Amazing shot!
Well done Rose!! And FYI a 243 is all you’ll need for anything, my all rounder is a 223 and That works for me. Keep making videos I love them!!
Rose is still smokin' hot as she was 11 years ago...only her beauty has increased with age. She looks better now than ever. It takes a lot of luck and a whole lot of talking to find a woman like that to go off grid with you and raise kids and hunt for food. If anyone can do that talking, it's Jeff. In fact, I think he just talked me into buying an ammo holster. Why?

Congrats ROSE!!!! Awesome Vid. Love watching u guys doing what u do.
Rose is a doll, and she kills things! Thanks for sharing.
So glad you invest your time making videos. The 243 is obviously enough, with the right shot placement, and arguably one of the most versatile short action calibers. Perhaps if we changed the name to 6mm-08, everybody would be shooting it, aye?
Congratulations Rose. You performed PERFECTLY! You are a very impressive person. 🖒🖒🖒
Ahh finally a hunting video..holymoly u guys let us wait so much for new hunting videos
