Rosannagh Maclennan (Canada) wins gold in the women's trampoline final at the North Greenwich Arena at the London 2012 Olympic Games (4 August).
China's Huang Shanshan and He Wenna won silver and gold in the event respectively.
Developed in 1934, trampolines were originally used to train astronauts or were used as a training tool for other sports. They soon became popular in their own right and a sport was born.
Trampolining made its first appearance at the 2000 Games in Sydney, with men's and women's competitions. The number of events (two) has remained unchanged since then.

I love how the two Canada gals practically acted like best friends, like "Woo! That's my girl who just beat my score! You go!" now that's what I call being a good sport (though they _are_ from the same country XD)

so cute
I followed the Olympics from start to finish, It really upsets me that I NEVER once saw this kind of gymnastics on the tv! If the sport is going to be in the Olympics, then they need to show it. They show just the main sports and that's not fair. Look what great sports we are missing. I want to say a BIG Thank you to Olympic for posting this!
Oh my god my new favourite thing is when they slow down gymnasts/ any competitors and showing their faces XD
Poor He Wenna, but I'm really glad Rosie MacLennan won. Canada's only gold medal. Just kinda sucks how one mistake will have you wait another 4 years.

MeiAn A.J. I agree with that. That is why you have 4 years to practice and perfect everything.

this sport needs more recognition!!
I never knew this sport existed. I only watched track, gymnastics, swimming, and basketball. Clearly I need to take off the week the olympics air in 2016 and watch the entire thing.
She came to my school today and I filmed with her! I had a blast!

Ask her yourself if you ever have the chance to meet her. She used to be a student at my school and we filmed a PSA. Lol it was so funny because my acting was so bad

***** How do you know? Maybe she did know her as a friend!!??! You never know, And she had to have SOMEONE as a friend in school and that friend MIGHT be her. You don't know!
Trampolining is a sport, it takes a lot of hard work and determination to get up onto the trampoline and perform a series of somersaults and twists. For those of you saying its not a sport, you try!
The audio is so off though especially at the end :/
Did they have to really spoil who the winner was?

Just thinking the same!!
I was a state champion gymnast and am now a semi pro soccer player, and the times I trained on a trampoline were unbelievable. It's a whole 'nother world. Like jumping in a swimming pool and very, very difficult to do tricks like these incredible athletes. These are truly high, high, high class athletes that require incomparable coordination to achieve the skills they have.
That's nuts! And yet we all know we wish we could do that :D
Anybody here from Rio?

yes
Rosannagh MacLennan starts at 18:20
its amazing how far trampoline has come even in the short time i have done it in canada
im a Regular gymnast and a wrestler and a football player for the past 6 years. and i can guarantee from all sports i've done wrestlers are nothing compares to gymnast.
That height would scare me SO bad
Go canada !
my favroite sport :)
Yes it appears so, it says right under that in the medals count within the description. Looks like that one line was just a typo.
Best gymnastics event. I remember watching it first in 2000 on tv, I was 8. So fun and fascinating. So much so that I used to call it 'olympics' cuz I thought that was what it was called. :D
This is fascinating to watch. I love watching gymnastics at the Olympics!! Such AMAZING talent. I wonder if I could still do my back tuck on a trampoline, much less the floor anymore :) AMAZING job ladies!
i used to compete in Trampoline for 6 years, and it is such a tiring sport and it takes so much energy and leg power. the height isnt really concerning when you are doing double and triple flips in the air, you are just hoping you land on your feet, on the trampoline not the matt. i had to quit because it screwed up my ankle when i over rotated and my leg went through the springs. but i saw rosie compete in the PanAm games last year and she is incredible.
wow, I really need to stop reading the comments before I watch the video :)

Bravo to all the competitors! On another note, I feel for all the trampolinists. I say that, not because i partake in the sport, but because I am equestrian and I get the same comments about OUR SPORT and being a sport. We train hard like any other athlete and if it is in the Olympics it must be a sport, so do not nock it before you try it.
I'd like to see you do either of those two sports.
It is because we are categorized as the same, I remember when i used to go on trips with other trampolinists, we also went with Gymnasts. It's always been that way :)
I feel like trampolining would be the most tiring sport to film
I'm a trampolinist too :) It seems stupid to put us with Gymnast category when we do something completely different!
U go CANADA!!!
i used to do that alot because i went to this sport
i had no idea this was a sport!! :O it seems fun xD
Also the ICU (international Cheer Union); contrary to what it seems to state on its web site, is NOT recognized by the IOC. In-fact it has not even applied to be recognized by the IOC. Cheerleading is scheduled to be added in the 2016 summer games
there faces during the trick is so funny i hope i can be as good as them one day
its not just choreography. Its stunts, its tumbling, its a sport
To think Canada was one final clean jump away from NOT winning a single gold in 2012...
Wow they're so talented and if I did that I would get so dizzy and I would feel so scared
The score is an accumulation of 3 things. Time of flight ie how long they spent in the air. Degree of Difficulty. Each skill they do has a certain degree. The harder the skills achieved the higher the DoD. The last is form which judges how nice your shape is, how straight your limbs are etc. judges mark their score out of 10 so a perfect form score would be 30. And ideal score for a lady would be 27 for form DoD of perhaps 15.5 or higher and time of flight of around 17 seconds
Actually, there is this competition called the olympics that occurs every four years (this one was in London, 2012) where people do things that laymen think are impossible.
ummmmm Olympic people you made a mistake in the caption!!!!!!!!!! the first paragraph of the caption says "China win silver and gold." but Canada won gold. you mean ******BRONZE for China.
Lol their faces in the slo-mo clips... but I can’t blame them. My face would be: mouth wide open and screaming in terror
I was joking, I've visited Canada and I've studied Canada's weather/climate/people, it was just banter
This is amazing. Ican barely do a backhand spring on a trampoline. I felt bad for the Russian girl
That really was a great move by Voroniva's coach
I can do dat :3 *jumps* BAM, SMAK, CRAK, uuummm, mum, can u call teh ambulance plz ;3

I have never heard of this but it sounds very interesting. I want one of those trampolines in my backyard
wut if they get stuck in the ceiling?
I lové trampolin and I do trampolin its m'y favorit sport ever
they should make freestyle trampolining olympic, you'd see awesome looking triple corks with grabs
it just looks like so much fun
i wish i had a trampoline like that!
Champion Olympic Rosannahh maclennan, deserves it though it would have won I have wena it is what has the competition and canada obtains a medal since karen cockburn is the first time of his 4 Olympic games that does not rise to the podium, but canada continues having a medal in all the games.
I had a friend at school whose surname was Haycock. He was called Strawdick from the first day to the last of the full five years we were there.

Wood Setton umm no one cares
Wish I could buy those trampolines at a cheap price
Rhythmic Gymnasts don't do back hand springs or front/back flips but are still considered gymnasts. At 9:50 I've seen gymnasts like Jordyn Wieber do something like that.
They are so talented
I really like Georgia's outfit. So pretty :D
like the way they got red trampolines instead of the usual blue :) a nice change
Its called a white bed, or a euro bed it is designed with a special fiber that is custom stitched and is designed for height up to 25 ft.
My coach always says squeeze and keep your body firm but none of the contestants do
I agree, Trampolining is a sport and a very special one at that. It is not gymnastics. Trampolining is a sport that take lots of training, conditioning and being in the right state of mind. Bouncing up and down is not trampolining, I am in a team and I try hard. No one say it is not a sport... cuz some of you can't do a couple of flips in a row, LET ALONE what these guys do.
When I heard the news about Canada winning a gold medal, I wanted to see what event it was. I was expecting something like equestrian or something- but the Women's Trampoline?!
The audio is so much before the visual itself its hard to enjoy, especially if things like this make you itch to pause it..
Amazing
I'm not an English major. I just went to an English school.I'm a physics major. Go is the shortest though. Cheers Jefferson.
that is really dynamic and cool wow! from paige kayla molly
i want an olympic trampoline!
really cool!
The International Federation of Gymnastics [FIG] governs artistic gymnastics [like Gabby does] and rhythmic gymnastics [the ball, hope, etc], trampoline [seen here], as well as acro and other variations [not all are in the Olympics]. so if you do artistic, you don't do trampoline; if you do trampoline, you don't do beam or hoop. It depends on the discipline you compete in. [and there's an argument from trampolinists saying they aren't gymnasts, but it is still an FIG sport]
@olympics In the description, He Wenna won bronze, not gold.
I never knew that they did trampoline for the Olympics?!
Ok if you're from America then it came on NBC not BBC. And I think these girls are just really talented athletes and they practice and practice to jump that high
@TheShooky2000. Yes gymnastics is a sport.
Can anyone tell me when the winning performance starts? Thanks :)
that looks so fun.
i want one of those trampolines
how it must be feeling , if u fail to make it after so much of hard work for yrs together .. !! reaching the Olympics itself is an achievement . but failing ther is really heartbreaking
Woah The Women From Usa ( Savanah ) Was Awesome!
This is in Olympic. How this could be fake??
I want a trampoline like that too! Except mine would need the larger cushions surrounding it on all 4 sides (instead of just the 2) and then that would have to be surrounded by a body of water....
I'd like to see a syncro event added for this sport
Where are the judges?
The slow mo at 12:30 had me giggling. lovely expressions? Think not. heheh she is laser focused though. :)
Rollerbabe96 I totally agree with u
I didn't knew this existed... it's interesting.
You don't even need the exclamation point, English Major. That is only used to indicate strong emphasis. And it is not only "Go"; any verb intended as a directive of behavior also qualifies.
I really don't think a ten year old could do that considering most trampoline clubs start accepting people at age 8 and most don't do there first competition until age 9. It's impressive to do a double flip at age 13 and these athletes are doing triples with twists.
true, the only thing they show really in the U.S. is gymnastics, swimming, soccer, and the track/field events.
i want a trampoline like that!
According to the president of THE ASSOCIATION OF THE IOC RECOGNISED INTERNATIONAL SPORTS FEDERATIONS (ARISF) an organization in that works directly with the International Olympic Committee (IOC ); whom I messaged directly in reference to your statements here. From his responce to me it appears Cheerleading has NOT been accepted as a demonstration, exhibition, or any other such thing in the 2012 Olympics.
The announcers seemed to love Canada
these trampolines arent like the ones we have at home or ARE FOR SALE AT TOYR R US theyre made for a sport not your backyard
it depends on how much weight you gain i mean i've seen people with extremely big bellys in ncaa and they are still able to do the vault and every event perfectly fine
this is a form of gymnastics.
I had no odea this was a sport ... I've never seen someone so serious on a trampoline.
Wow i like this sport
if you aren't a gymnast, then please explain to me why there were trampolinists at the Kellogg's Tour of GYMNASTICS?
