Rosannagh Maclennan (Canada) wins gold in the women's trampoline final at the North Greenwich Arena at the London 2012 Olympic Games (4 August).
China's Huang Shanshan and He Wenna won silver and gold in the event respectively.
Developed in 1934, trampolines were originally used to train astronauts or were used as a training tool for other sports. They soon became popular in their own right and a sport was born.
Trampolining made its first appearance at the 2000 Games in Sydney, with men's and women's competitions. The number of events (two) has remained unchanged since then.

I love how the two Canada gals practically acted like best friends, like "Woo! That's my girl who just beat my score! You go!" now that's what I call being a good sport (though they _are_ from the same country XD)

I followed the Olympics from start to finish, It really upsets me that I NEVER once saw this kind of gymnastics on the tv! If the sport is going to be in the Olympics, then they need to show it. They show just the main sports and that's not fair. Look what great sports we are missing. I want to say a BIG Thank you to Olympic for posting this!

Trampolining is a sport, it takes a lot of hard work and determination to get up onto the trampoline and perform a series of somersaults and twists. For those of you saying its not a sport, you try!

I was a state champion gymnast and am now a semi pro soccer player, and the times I trained on a trampoline were unbelievable. It's a whole 'nother world. Like jumping in a swimming pool and very, very difficult to do tricks like these incredible athletes. These are truly high, high, high class athletes that require incomparable coordination to achieve the skills they have.

i used to compete in Trampoline for 6 years, and it is such a tiring sport and it takes so much energy and leg power. the height isnt really concerning when you are doing double and triple flips in the air, you are just hoping you land on your feet, on the trampoline not the matt. i had to quit because it screwed up my ankle when i over rotated and my leg went through the springs. but i saw rosie compete in the PanAm games last year and she is incredible.

Bravo to all the competitors! On another note, I feel for all the trampolinists. I say that, not because i partake in the sport, but because I am equestrian and I get the same comments about OUR SPORT and being a sport. We train hard like any other athlete and if it is in the Olympics it must be a sport, so do not nock it before you try it.

The score is an accumulation of 3 things. Time of flight ie how long they spent in the air. Degree of Difficulty. Each skill they do has a certain degree. The harder the skills achieved the higher the DoD. The last is form which judges how nice your shape is, how straight your limbs are etc. judges mark their score out of 10 so a perfect form score would be 30. And ideal score for a lady would be 27 for form DoD of perhaps 15.5 or higher and time of flight of around 17 seconds

I agree, Trampolining is a sport and a very special one at that. It is not gymnastics. Trampolining is a sport that take lots of training, conditioning and being in the right state of mind. Bouncing up and down is not trampolining, I am in a team and I try hard. No one say it is not a sport... cuz some of you can't do a couple of flips in a row, LET ALONE what these guys do.

The International Federation of Gymnastics [FIG] governs artistic gymnastics [like Gabby does] and rhythmic gymnastics [the ball, hope, etc], trampoline [seen here], as well as acro and other variations [not all are in the Olympics]. so if you do artistic, you don't do trampoline; if you do trampoline, you don't do beam or hoop. It depends on the discipline you compete in. [and there's an argument from trampolinists saying they aren't gymnasts, but it is still an FIG sport]

I really don't think a ten year old could do that considering most trampoline clubs start accepting people at age 8 and most don't do there first competition until age 9. It's impressive to do a double flip at age 13 and these athletes are doing triples with twists.
