Cause it's a mindset thing...things started turning south before the bad putts. That's where the caddy didn't prove his worth with some pretty sketchy club choices and bad directional strategy. Rory, however, is a choker...with the putt misses. So the two factors combined ensured he lost.

This was my answer. He choked, and is blaming someone else. That's pretty much his story over the last ten years.

Sorry but I don’t agree with any of this. Rory is responsible for his collapse and Rory alone! He missed two very makeable putts that cost him the championship!

100%! He had his chances, just didn’t capitalise. Bryson took his chances. Plus anyone who has achieved greatness before and won a comp knows, that to be a winner, you have to pull out your best when it’s needed. I’m not DeChambeau’s biggest fan but objectively he was clutch when he needed to be and Rory just simply wasn’t and that’s that. Besides the caddy can suggest but the golfer has the final say and has the execute proficiently.

Totally agree! His PUTTING has nothing to do with the caddie. Both putts were fairly easy for his level. HE lost it alone.

Since when does a caddie overrule a player about shot selection? It's like blaming the dog for you farting.

Don't blame Harry he is not putting the ball.he chocked bottom line

just tell me tom pierson , how many majors did Rory won with Harry Diamond on the bag... its not the putts, its how a caddy talks and advise his boss when the stakes are at the pinacle. Club selection on the par 3 was a huge mistake.Just look who was on the Bag, for Tiger, for Scotty, for Nicklaus, for Mickelson .

Have been thinking this for a while, they are long ti.e best friends . So with that in mind Rory will not risk friendship by sacking him whereas his caddie will not question any decision Rory makes where a full time professional caddie would.

Rory will never sack Harry who is his best friend. One thing I have noticed is that Harry never helps Rory with his putting line but maybe that's the way Rory likes it

Those short putts in a final at a major tournament are so tough, the greens are super fast and the pressure to make them extreme. Just a slight touch off line and there missed, Rory was feeling the pressure, had nothing to do with the caddie. Earlier in the round he made at least 3 very long putts for birdie to even put him position to win.

The player hit the shot and makes the final club selection. Harry has no fault here

Caddie doesn’t feel the US Open pressure the player does. These missed putts happen to all of us

A friend instead of a real caddie is a mistake. Rory had a great caddie and wanted a buddy, big mistake.

Just because someone is your friend doesn’t necessarily mean they can’t be a good caddie, two things can be true at the same time.

Excuses

Pros make 98 % of 3ft putts, you just happened to see the 2 /100 he missed. How many othe players in the field missed short putts over the 4 days.. Plenty of them did gauranteed, you just dont see them on TV.

Pepperrall needs to win a major before he makes outlandish comments like that. The caddie has always given to the pro yardage, wind direction, where the pin is located, but, never tell a Pro, especially someone of Rorys caliber what club to hit, they might suggest, but, never tell. On the other side of it Eddie! You are asking Rory to sack his close friend mate! You are showing your true colors talking stupid like that, and you call yourself a Pro? ⛳️⛳️⛳️

Rory has won multiple times with HD on the bag so it’s not like they don’t know what they are doing. Would a different caddy have been able to influence shot selections and execution for a better outcome? Pure speculation really and only Rory will know that when he reflects as I’m sure he will be doing a lot of.

Caddies give yardage and wind plus green information. They don’t swing the club or make club selection. If Rory wants another major title, he needs to learn better course management.

Caddy should have told him he'd wrong club for par 3 which he overshot badly past the green & to use a 3 wood on 18 = at least a playoff...

BS. He was on 15 in regulation after an excellent drive and second shot; and had and excellent first put. He missed his 3' par put on his own. If the argument is, had he used a different approach club, his approach shot would have been in a better position - could this hindsight not be said of every single shot at every hole? A different shot could have resulted in a different outcome. What if I had a brother? And what if he liked cheese?

He is really disappointing a lot of people. His personal behavior and now on the course .. his wife his caddy .. and the others has to pay the bill of his big ego 😮

Wow! A new low for victim hood. A bag carrier is blamed for Rory's loss. Whatever happened to free will and accountability for one's own actions and choices. Oh my, could it be ..... Rory is only a good player that had a couple of great years long ago? Meanwhile making $$$ millions playing top10 to 20 golf.

Please stop tying to give excuses! Life is not fair and golf is the same. Give Rory a break! Rory just missed two putts that he would normally readily make. Rory is AMAZING and he should not forget that! I will not be able to consol Rory nor will anyone else but I am confident that he will be in contention, if not win the Open Championship. i thought Rory made a conscious decision earlier to not have a caddy that "advises" him. hence his parting of ways with his previous caddy, whathisname...JP something. So, he wont take up on this recommended changes too openly.

Rory lost because he can't make a short putt under pressure.

Eddie Pepperell and Hank Haney are both completely right to voice their opinion re Rory's absolute (IF HE WANTS MORE MAJORS IN HIS LIFE) requirement to part ways with Harry Diamond as his caddie, maintain his friendship totally but part ways with him as his caddie. And hire a caddie who is not his friend but one whom he respects and whose golf caddying acumen he trusts. Also one who could, at a critical time, offer a putt read the way Stevie Williams told Adam that his Masters winning putt was two balls outside, not one. For Adam, no Stevie would have meant no Masters. Harry Diamond should actually find a logical excuse to return to Ireland and no longer be Rory's caddie. That would solve the problem. The driver choice and the 7 iron choice were two shots that are on Diamond's shoulders. Hope Rory is not ego focused and negatively stubborn to keep on with his present major losing formula. That's the definition of insanity. Come on Rory.
