This guy better not be paid for these disingenuous asinine takes with zero tactical analysis. The hyperbolic language is not informative nor is it constructive. England were pretty much playing a 2, 1, 4, 3, with Foden sat next to Kane and Trippier on his own on the left. How is it Trippier's fault that he's playing a role that he is not suited to? How is it Trippier's fault that he's got no support on that wing? Foden spent most of that match on the inside playing next to Kane. Why isn't Foden, the supposed left winger, not making supportive runs for Trippier up the left had side? Most of the balls Foden played to Trippier were hospital passes that required him to off-load to the side or the rear, one of them led to the rushed pass to Geuhi. This is a fault with the system, a lack of team cohesion but not the player that's caught in the middle of it. As Rory would put it: "The quality of talkSPORT commentary is dependent on Rory never speaking on talkSPORT again."

To alleviate the issue of Trippier being right footed, Southgate organised that Bellingham drifts across toward Foden to give Trippier another outlet, so they could work in triangles. It was Bellingham who failed in this not Trippier. Oh by the way, Walker's performance was a disgrace on the right.

Joe Gomez is the best defender we have after Stones… doesn’t get talked about enough.

Not true. I'm a Liverpool fan. There's always a chance in any game gomez loses his head. If he makes one mistake his head goes. It's mentality which is missing from him being a world class Central defender. Hes a baller that's why he can play in many positions

Not taking a fully fit lb player to the tournament is Trippier’s fault?

Rory is a clown. Can't say anything about Southgate but swapping players is somehow worth talking about? Despite all the changes across the 4 games (including when Trippier was subbed) nothing changes, a team with a top class forward line can't create chances and it looks like a bunch of players that don't know each other. That's on the players is it? That's on this set of players even though this has been the case in every tournament under the same manager. There is no amount of changes that Southgate can make that will make England better because he is out of his depth. Nothing in his track record ever indicated he could coach top level players or compete against international managers. Nothing in his England tenure has shown he is any better than a where he was when he took the job, a Championship level manager at the very best. He has taken multiple squads of world class players to multiple tournaments, struggles against the teams with less quality and gets beat by any team half decent, he is the common denominator. He can't coach a team at this level to any kind of performance. Rory is a clown. If England had been knocked out which they really should have, he'd be calling for Southgate's head but because of a ridiculous goal from Bellingham then it's Trippier fault, or not playing Palmer or whatever. Honestly, why is this guy put forward as a some kind of pundit. It's laughable.

Defensively in that back four he's actually made the least mistakes. Up until the Slovakia game the back four was our only positive but then they went to pot. Their goal was due to Stones and Guehi both going for the same man then Guehi letting him run off him. Walker miles out of position too. Made some good blocks in that first game against Serbia too. Only decent corners and crosses in the Slovakia game were from Trippier before going off.

Why does no-one ever mention Joe Gomez in defence, just played half a season at left back where arguably he had one of his best seasons, got up the byeline, made crosses, took shots, definite upgrade on tripper and even a better choice at CB than Konsa!

Did I watch a different Saka at left back? While he was at left back, despite being naturally left footed, he still continued to turn inside onto his right foot, and never once took the ball to the line to cross with his left, despite having 3 or 4 opportunities to do so.

Big fan of Trippier but to say he should never play for England again is laughable. Granted he was poor last season but aside from that and parts of his last season at Spurs he's been consistent in his club career and has actually been one of the most consistent England players under Southgate. Lot more consistent than some of the bigger star names but he's always the scapegoat when we perform shite collectively. If he performs well again for Newcastle next season he should still be getting the call up. If Trent, Walker, Gomez or Shaw played at left back they'd just cut inside and pass it sideways or backwards as the entire team is sitting deep.

Within seconds he goes from saying Trippier was a 0, that he is the reason why England are so bad, and that he should never play for England again....then he says that he concedes its not Trippiers fault!? He's being really harsh on a player who's a veteran in the England side, who's given everything for the shirt for so many years, and who is a right footed RB having to fill in at LB. If we had good LB options I'd be more than happy to have Trippier as one of the RB options because at RB he's top quality but at LB you're getting probably 20% of what he's capable of so this complete clown should cut Tripps some slack

Play him there with Gordon on the left wing and move Foden to the right side, where he is much more comfortable. Three centre backs, Walker, Stones and Konsa, with Trent at right wing back. Rice in midfield, with Bellingham behind Kane. When we have the ball, both Saka and Trent can attack. Against Switzerland, we need to keep the ball wide. They play a very narrow back four. This can be exploited.

Its such a shame. Talksports coverage of the euros has been fantastic until these two clowns are given airtime.

Somebody needs to tell Rory that where he is playing is not his natural position he's filling in a hole Southgate has left by not taking another LB aswell as Luke Shaw who is injured. Trippier was a Foden offside away from getting an assist Vs Slovakia.

He fails to mention that hes got no outlet because foden is never in position, foden doesn't want to play on the left and he doesnt, he drifts all over and was even popping up on the right wing at times. England were literally playing on half of the pitch you could of drew a line up the middle. That was leaving tripper to deal with the opposition right winger and right back when foden wasnt in position.

This is another pinnacle of questioning how on earth people take anything Rory says seriously. Even though there are a few (very few) occasions where hes right, all these claims like this are utter tosh. He is putting all Englands issues on Trippier but he is literally a right back being played as a left back. The absolutely worst thing about putting Trippier at LB is that he has an excellent right foot for crossing and doing long passes from the right side. Cutting in from left back is inevitably going to see a subpar Trippier and hes been thrown in that position by the nonsense decision to only pick an injury prone Shaw as LB when he wasnt even fit for the warmup games. The only thing you can complain about with LB is that Southgate didn't set a marker of picking players who were fit for the friendlies.
