Mackenyu Arata, who plays Zoro, is the son of the late Hollywood star Shinichi Chiba. And when you realize that Shinichi Chiba is such a great actor that no other actor can beat him if you give him a sword, you realize that this casting was really well thought out. His bloodline is thoroughbred. Zoro is just a milestone. There is no doubt that he will be active as a Hollywood star representing Japan in the future. And as the story of One Piece progresses, Makenyu will grow together with Zoro.

@@moderatecanuckHis dad didn’t invent the katana wtf. The katana has been around even since before the Edo period in Japan. It goes as far back as the sengoku period. His dad created katanas for movies though that’s definitely true. He plays Hattori Hanzo in Kill Bill. He’s obviously still a very well renowned actor but he did not create the katana.

The entire cast was amazing but Zoro's casting was 100% Zoro from One Piece, that I did not think for a minute that he is an actor portraying a character. I know that some claim that he was not so goofy as in the manga but in my opinion Zoro in the live action is more serious, because yeah we might watch a live action with comedy elements but you can clearly say from his first fight with N7 when he cut him into pieces, that the live action is much more mature than the original work in that domain, in my opinion. And Zoro live action has his funny moments too. I believe that he is 100% Zoro. Mackenyu did an amazing job and you can tell from that that he is a huuuuge fan of ONE PIECE.

totally agree, but not just that, even sanji lol in the anime Zeff lost his leg rescuing sanji IIRC, in the manga he ate it, but the point is Live action is more serious than the anime too. The only thing i miss was the booger scene in baratie but the whole crew is fiiiiiiiiiiire

This is an amazing tribute to Mackenyu as Zoro. All of his hard work shows through his performance. He deserves all the recognition for his talent and unparalleled dedication.

I knew Mackenyu would be perfect for Zoro. Just like he played Enishi in Rurouni Kenshin live action.

the show was well done, even if you didn't watch the anime or read the manga you could very much understand the story.

first time watching a live-action manga series and Zoro is now my favorite character. his skills were amazing!!!!! Mackenyu really fits this role. I am a fan now. Started to watch his other movies too. I hope he will have more movies and series. Can't wait to see season 2 of ONE PIECE. hopefully, it comes out soon...

Baby Zoro actor was ALSO amazing…they really did great with the backstories.

For those who only watched Netflix One Piece and think Zoro is amazing, let me tell you that the entire show was like just a trailer for One Piece. And the OG Zoro is so amazing and badass beyond words…. There are some Zoro moments in the Anime/manga, that still gives me goosebumps just thinking about it…. If you have time to spare, please give the OG One Piece a try, you will not regret it….

My fav anime Zoro moment is when luffy wasnts to get usopp back and zoro blocks him ... that there was the real first mate

I just realized one of the reasons why the live-action of One Piece is exactly what I needed from the live-action of Avatar! Luffy from the live-action has almost the exact same energy as Aang from the animated series of Avatar! Just watch and listen and you’ll never unsee it!

I started One Piece anime only for him and didn’t regret. Once I’ve been introduced with the concept of Conqueror’s Haki, this anime became the best for me.

The most handsome swordsman 🤗

When I first saw One Piece, Mackenyu immediately caught my attention because he reminded me of someone I knew a long time ago. They’ve got the same eyes. Now I see that person in him and every other day when I’ve got time, I will look at Macken’s photos to remember how his eyes look like. Anyway, Mackenyu is a very talented actor, his acting skills are on point. He’s now one of my favorite actors and I hope he will be recognized as he deserves and get more roles in international films. :-)

I came for Zoro, stayed for Mihawk. He is as perfect as he can be.

Can we appreciate how accurate the younger versions of the actors were. Well done casting team!

His body, movement, how he stands on his feet; everything visual looks like Zoro. Impressive. And who could even expect Zoro as a kid looking just like him in his present? It's also the same for Luffy, too, BTW.

THIS is what happens when you respect the source material. Never was a fan of One Piece because of the animation/art quality, but I'll definitely be reading it now.

Makenyu is one of the main reason the show got popular his acting is amazing

I find his role the most difficult one, needs to be fine with so little talking, but he is good.

Mackenyu Maeda is incredible with his swords. He plays Zoro so perfectly, it's juste INSANE! And I've no doubt about the fact that he'll progress as the story progress and grow to become the greatest swordsman in the world and probably the only with 3 swords art!!! 💪💪💪

Mackenyu as zoro is just damn amazing and I'll never stop saying that!

I'm usually not a fan of live action anime, but I'll admit I'm enjoying this one so far. I also love how they added Zoro pledge to Luffy. It's not exactly like the manga, but it's good in its own right.

its amazing who mackenyu fights with this style of using raw power in this strikes , traditional samurai movements , it actually really does look like how Zoro fights in the anime/manga , great work done there

Flipped on Netflix one day to find the live action trending. I decided to try it partly out of curiosity and partly because One Piece was one of those shows I grew up on. Not gonna lie-- I feared that the adaptation was gonna be bad. In fact, I was almost positive that it would be based on past experience with live actions. My biggest concern was the show turning out too cheesy and corny. For one, how were they gonna portray Luffy's stretchy abilities? It would look ridiculous, I thought. But to my surprise, this show is pretty amazing so far (still on episode 1). The overall acting and action sequences feel solid. And yes, the casting is so spot-on!! Zoro straight out of the anime. Update: I just finished the entire show. It’s amazing!!! This adaptation is GOLD….and the actors are a HUGE part of it. Highly recommend it!! Give it a try anyone hesitating out there. Season 2 can’t come fast enough 🙏

Somebody needs to hire you to do this if they haven't already. I've been very apathetic about the live-action release, but after watching this I think it's my next watch on Netflix.

I come back here after reading all the hates on Zoro by Mackenyu 😂. I guess because I did not watch anime so I never compared LA to anime and thats how I enjoyed this show and like the Zoro in LA so much 😂. I did not even know Mackenyu before One Piece. People want Mackenyu to have more fun and laugh out loud like in anime, but laugh just makes sense when the words are funny enough which do not happen in this Zoro's case. His expressions are good to me given that he is portraying a cold and cool man who barely talk unless prompted. Portraying a talktive and/or noisy person is much easier, so the point here is what he wants to portray, not what he can.

Funny thing is, since I've decided to watch the LA because of Mackenyu, so far I've never seen any hate comment to him. People from different nations are glad he played to be Zorro. I guess haters are outnumbered. 😊❤

I love how this live action just brought to my mind how far behind the straw hats were in terms of power, from the monsters like mihawk, shanks, wb, etc... (during the east blue stuff)

what a great edit. you did amazingly well to showcase the character and Mackenyu's performance.

Somehow, both the manga and the anime had totally missed me, so came to the series as a blank slate. And man, did I love it! The casting was perfect, the actors were brilliant, it had a good balance of goofy and serious. I loved Luffy, I loved Sanji, and I loved Nami, but Zoro became hands down the instant favourite. Mackenyu is just amazing. And this edit is SO GOOD, I have watched it now for two weeks at least once or twice a day!

Here in the Philippines, a lot of girls suddenly turned fan of Zoro(because of Arata). Hehe

This is really an amazing edit. Not gonna lie tho but Zoro may be my favorite character of all time. I just hope that there will be a season 2 of one piece soon because I would love to see Zoro more often. But by far, I love the series so much, that I have played it over 4-5 times.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I guess season 2 will take AT LEAST 2 years to produce, and it's really a minimum if they want to keep the same level of quality. This is just the beginning of the story, if Netflix stays with it until the end, we are at the beginning of 20 years of adventures. Ho, and East blue is generally considered as one of the weakest arc in the serie (but you have to start somewhere and set the mood for what's to come).

If you want to see more of the actor, he played in others things before... Zorro is one of the most beloved Strawhat. And what we saw in the live action is just the beginning for Zorro, he'll become way more badass with time.
