Roque de los Muchachos is hands down the most popular hiking location on the entire island of La Palma in the Canary Islands. The reason is.......everyone can do this hike. Even Grandma in her wheel chair can do this one because there is a view point with parking at the top.
However just like the Eiffel tower, the best views of the main attraction aren't necessarily while standing on it. You need to hike around on the rim of the crater to take in the full awesomeness of this insane location.
You'll find loads of colorful cliffs with cool geological formations. Also this is where some of the largest telescopes in Europe can be found . There are very few areas in Europe where the skies are so clear at night, so Roque de los Muchachos is also one of the best places in Europe to witness the stars and milky way at night. Star watching here is on a whole other level.
