Ropes (Invincible feat. Tiombe Lockhart)

Музыка

UPDATE 9-15-10: Over a year later, mtvU Lifts Ban on "Ropes"!! Details: tinyurl.com/ropesonmtvu
---
ARTIST: Invincible featuring Tiombe Lockhart. Song produced by Knowledge.
DIRECTOR: Mr.Complex
PRODUCER: Emergence Media
www.EMERGENCEmusic.net
MP3: tinyurl.com/696jl9
The third music video off Invincible's acclaimed ShapeShifters LP (2008), "Ropes" addresses the often taboo subject of depression and suicide.
After being accepted by mtvU, the station's standards department axed the video citing how its "suicidal undertones would be problematic" for a college audience. Ironically, Invincible and Tiombe's intention with the song is to speak openly and boldly about the prevalence of depression in our communities. With suicide being the third leading cause of death amongh 15-24 year-olds, "Ropes" aims to break the pattern of turning a blind eye to metal health issues, and to begin the process of healing.

to be fair, this is the same world that made soulja boy a thing. silver lining - there are less dipshits to comment on stuff like this. music can help filter out the stupid people in life. lastly, you can go to your average popular garbage, read the comments and know you are vastly superior to every person there ;) just never comment, unless you completely ignore the responses, as stupidity is infectious in large doses.

Rated R Lack of mass appeal. I’d guess this lady refused to compromise. In some ways, I wish she would have. All the greatest artists maintained their integrity while still playing the game. Eminem made those compromises, yet still managed to maintain a certain level of credibility. I feel that if Invincible wanted to go that route, she could. On the other hand, I don’t pretend to know her story. All I can say is, after 3 songs of hers, she has some serious skills.

I think that people who have struggled with suicidal ideation/activity (such as myself and more than a few of my friends), as well as the recognized authorities on the study of suicide such as Kay Redfield Jamieson will probably all agree that while there is always the risk of copycat suicide by speaking of it, the greater risk lies in how a person who is suicidal generally feels that they can't speak to anyone about it. Songs such as this make us all feel less alone, even if we're not talking.

Props. Lana! Much repsect for using your voice and ryhme skills to communicate this imp. message. After working in Skid Row, much of the mental illness I saw was due to lack of support, resources, outlets to channel the mad talent and art that most people end up there have. Hip Hop has saved my life in many ways, it must grow, and the message must continue to be spoken on. Thank you! Hope to see you again, next you get out here to LA! Blessings!

It's increasingly hard to find artists these days that are not just original but truly inspiring, this tune is incredible and the video is incredible. I'd never heard of Invincible before this morning but she now has one more fan. Typically MTV wanting to stop music by an underground artisit that has some real meaning, if this was the latest Eminem video then there would be a "Ropes" Happy Meal by now but because it's an up and coming artist they don't want to know. This is all round amazing.

I remember back in 2013-14 I was sitting in my social studies class and my teacher was teaching us about global issues and she showed us all this song on the projector. the impact this song had on me made me go home and listen to it and I haven’t stopped since, definitely got me threw a lot of hard times even though back then my perception of the world was so different. I will never forget that teacher or this song as I know every lyric to it. As well as I hope they never take down Locusts, another favourite. Thank you invincible 🙏 keep making music I will always support, if theres a way to buy the album I would

Invincible = REAL music. I wish they would show us more real videos instead of feeding us this daily garbage we hear on the radio and tv. Suicide is a serious issue and it has affected some of my family members. These issues need to be brought to light. I agree with IdealistEyes, we should petition MTV to air this video.

p.s. I'm emailing this link to everyone I know. I suggest if to everyone feeling this that everyone out there reading this do the same. p.s.s. I think if you followed the vid with a negative statistic involving suicide, that may help it become more acceptable. People usually need to be told how to feel/think about things. I can see a suicidal person seeing only the parts that agree with their outlook and taking the song as reassurance of their decision. They aren't rational, the pain

Everyone has mental health issues.. this should wake up those with significant influence and say how can we make this world a place where person want to live, feel alive and be happy.. because if it isn't then the other side may seem or be more attractive. I won't comment on how utterly wrong MTVu is, we all know that, given their usual programming. But Invincible got it out to people anyway and I think at least some of them *needed* to hear this to know they're not alone. I try to start conversations about this, and it usually ends with something like - "life sucks for everyone. suck it up." We definitely need a better mantra than that. Invincible = HERO. peace, lily
