I have some more tips: Sympathy tokens placed in clearings with enemy units are worth 1 supporter - that's how much you'll earn if the enemy attempts to destroy them. Sympathy tokens placed in clearings with no enemy units are worth 2 supporter - enemies will trigger outrage twice (once for entering and once for destroying it,) Sympathy tokens placed in clearings with no enemy units and at least one of your warriors are potentially worth more than 2 especially if you can destroy an invading enemy unit. This is because they create Outrage when entering the clearing, you can destroy their unit with Guerrilla tactics, then they have to re-enter the clearing again, generating you more outrage. It is for this reason that you should not create sympathy early game that would cost you more supporters than they would generate you. i.e. don't place your 4th token (2 supporter cost) in a clearing with enemy units as you could lose it and be down one card.

Interesting... I can see that though. The game space changes as everyone plays more and more. Its an incredibly intelligent design.

Last game I was in the Cat/Bird war was in full swing and I was largely ignored until I basically had sympathy in nearly every clearing of the board. I was pulling in so many supporter cards in every round that I won handily as the Maqui destroyed their army attempting an invasion of one of my bases and the Eyrie were locked in perpetual turmoil XD

@@LordoftheBoard The first game that comes to my mind is Twilight Imperium 4. What to do with each faction would be a lot of nice content. There is also Vast, and I see in on your shelf ;) Another thing I can think of, if you want to talk more about Root, is strategies about how to defeat the factions, instead of how to win with them. That would be nice too.

Excellent video, thanks! Some find them too similar to play as from game to game, but I'm always down for playing as WA. It's just so much fun to rack up a dozen supporters in-between turns and getting that many points in one turn, and like you said being able to wield your potential explosive power for mind games. Question: where do you/y'all stand on the best number of officers? I usually go with 4 for most of the game and have had success in suddenly adding a couple/few more for one or two burst turns late-game, but I've only played with one group so I have no idea if I'm doing it right

Correct! You only get 3 revolts. Atleast until a base is removed and comes back!

Nice guides. We played 2 games with friends and few question we dont know answer: 1. Tile with only symphaty token can be attacked to destroy it? Can symphaty tokens be destroyed? 2. What if 3 there are 2 cats 2 birds + nest on 1 tile and Alliance join with 3 guys. Which one they can fight? If they can choose, and fight cats with roll of 3, the nest will be destroyed as well?

1. Sympathy can be targeted / attacked and destroyed. And when there is a token with no Warriors of its owners type you get 1 free hit. 2. You can only attack one players pieces at one time. If the alliance attacked the cats they wouldn’t be able to destroy and Eyrie nest in the process :)

Should u place sympathy in places you’ll likely get more cards (outrage) or in places you’ll less likely to be attacked?

I would almost always say that you want to go on the locations less attacked. Because eventually they will be moved into and then attacked! but the longer sympathy lasts before being removed is the most important part!

Watched the whole video don't even have the game . About to buy the digital game from steam though , hope it's easy to get through :P

@@LordoftheBoard question about Tip #9. How does placing sympathy into an already controlled clearing work out, strategically? It nets you VP, which is great. But if they have even one warrior there, they can destroy your sympathy next turn. This will cost them a card, but later in the game, it costs you 2 or even 3 cards to place sympathy there, so the net card benefit isn't worth it. Is it still a winning strategy? Is it worth it to set up lightly defended (1 warrior) sympathetic clearings across the map?

Ah, but I suppose that if you have 3 officers, and you're using Organize to spread sympathy, then it costs you 0 cards. Definitely a winning strategy.

Yes you answered it correctly, be more careful earlier in the game but even when they remove sympathy you will gain a card. Sometimes even 2. Organizing is such a good way to score without spending cards. However losing bases will be terrible to your economy. So hence the recruiting a warrior back at your base. You want to keep those defensed always

Do you return the sympathy token when you construct the base??

What is the definition of Sympathetic clearing? Does that mean the clearing with sympathetic token alone is ok? You don’t have to rule that clearing with the most warriors there, right?

If you have revolted three times and put down all three bases, what happens when you revolt again? Do you move a base to the new location?

TheDarkCreed86 hey thank you so much for watching. Great question, you cannot place anymore once you have your last base out. The first requirement to revolt is "A sympathetic clearing matching an unbuilt base." So you cannot revolt if you've placed the matching clearing's base already.

Quick question: Playing against my friend who picked Dynasty we quickly realized he could essentially spend all of his cards through a combination of decree and building, and then move through my sympathetic clearings/ remove my sympathy with no consequences. Is this an accurate interpretation of the rules?

Yes it is! If a player doesn’t have a card to give. The alliance looks at that players hand (if any) and then draws from the top of the deck. This is a healthy strategy to ensure you arnt losing cards, but the alliance will still gain supporters from the deck for each

Three questions: 1- What is the maximum number of officers you can have? Three maximum, or more? 'Cause only 3 fit in the space. 2- Damage: can you deal more damage with a dice than the number of warriors you use to attack? Such as: my Alliance attacks with one warrior but I strike a 3 with the best dice roll. Do I deal one damage or three to my opponent? 3- Do you really have to start your first turn with nothing on the map, 3 cards in the supporters and 3 cards in your hand? Davide Cencini 1. No maximum. But I would say optimally you want atleast 3. 2. No, when you roll attack dice you can deal as much damage as warriors you have. Maximum of 3 with just units. Cards can increase that amount that to hit more! 3. Yes you don’t start with any bird presence. Your first turns will be trying to get a couple sympathy token. i just had a few questions: 1 - do yo have to pay with a supporter to play the very first sympathy token on turn one? 2 - I had a really nutty sequence in a game where I had 4 officers and 6 warriors out, i simply moved to unsympathetic clearings, and organized 3 times and gained like 6 points to win. Is that legal to do? still followed the only one symp token per clearing rule and took those officer actions. I was just surprised to get so many points. guess that was my reward for the late game set up?

Caleb Thompson yes you do still have to spend supporters for the first one. It just doesnt give a vp. Yep that is the strategy! :) the mobilize move is something I mention above. It’s a very strategic and powerful set up. Probably the best one for the Alliance. I like to do a heavier crafting game sometimes depending on how aggressive the other players.

I'm new to root.. at 5:03 you move a WA warrior into a clearing with 2 ED warriors.. to move you have to rule the clearing your at and moving too.. so that move isn't correct? Thanks for the root content ... Please don't take this as criticism.. it's meant to be a question.
