    I am getting ready to make the plunge into digital audio and am gravitating toward the Bluesound Vault 2i to get started. Since I already have > 1.4TB of music files, I am concerned that Roon will overtax the computing ability in the Vault. Do you think I would benefit by building a NUC and running Roon Rock as you have done, rather than installing & using Roon on the Vault?

    Thank you for the description. In my MacBook I have an i7. It is connected to a FritzBox. On the MBook I have installed Roon Server App for Mac. In the network is also a Node 2i, connected to my Rotel A14 (with the speakers). Now when I use Tidal with Roon, I keep having slight glitches in playback sometimes. As if there was "dirt on the groove" (like vinyl) at the point. If I use BlueSound (Node 2i) only - Tidal everything sounds great. Can I assume that it is the Mac? I have already tried to replace cables, etc.. Can then be a NUC better? A NUC Is also only a "PC"! I have no idea :-(

    Hi Hans - your videos are a treasure trove. Thanks so much for educating us. One question - setting up a intel nuc -> ether regen -> sotm 200 -> ps audio direct stream DAC vs Mac mini in place of the intel nuc - do you see any disadvantages. Currently using a Mac mini - checking with you to understand technically if I will be losing something ?

    Hi Hans, Starting as an absolute layman when it comes to digital audio - coming from the turntabledays of yore- I learned a breathtaking lot from your videos since I ran ingot them some years ago. I subscribed to them on the spot. Thanks a lot for what and how you present. Now that I have acquired an Intel NUC with Roon application I run into some questions to which , I guess, you have a simple answer. Somewhere I read that you advised rather to go for a SOTM SMS 200 Ultra than a good LPS to improve SQ in combination with the NUC. Is that correct ? If that is so, how do I connect a NUC with a SOTM ? Through ethernet or USB and in which order (switch>NUC>SOTM>DAC or vice versa as to the latter two)? Hoping you find the time to answer. It would help a lot. Keep up the good work. Regards, Henk

    Using the SOtM sMS-200 Ultra is a far better choice than using a LPS on the NUC. Watch kzread.info/dash/bejne/Ymqqms2KhtKnp7g.html to see how network bridges are used. Just connect the SOtM to the network and over USB to your DAC and then select it in Roon setup-audio.

    Do you have a system drive size recommendation, the second data drive will a ssd model about 4-5 tb, this option to use a M.2 drive is nice and i do like making my own headless server that roon can use. your information is very good and keeps me interested, thank you.

    Hello Hans, I started following your channel a few months ago and I think you for your informative and clear take on many issues. I would appreciate your advice: My gear includes the SoTM-200 ULTRA player connected to a CHORD QUTEST DAC via USB. The music files reside on a NUC running Roon with an external USB HDD. The NUC and SoTM are connected via an audio-grade switch and cables. The NUC is also connected to my TV since I use it also to stream video from the internet (Netflix etc.. but of course not concurrently with playing my music). I'm also using Fidelizer SW to optimize the NUC performance but I realize that having a fan, a monitor and wireless keyboard/mouse do introduce noise. However. putting a dedicated player over IP I tried to minimize this. Would it still be beneficial SQ-wise to invest in 1. Change the HDD to SSD ? 2. Add a headless NUC (or Roon Nucleus) dedicated for my music ? Thx

    Both will work and will not sound different, but keep the Roon Rock computer away from the stereo. I use a USB3 drive for the music files and have the Intel NUC two stories up. A NAS will make things more expensive and not better. In fact it will be slower than the USB3 drive although that is of no consequence for this application.

    Hello Hans In the film you mention that Roon will release a linear PS "for those who want to connect a USB DAC directly to the Nucleus". Why would I need a LPS in order to do this? Wouldn't the included power supply be enough? And wouldn't also users choosing to go via a microRendu (or such) also benefit from a LPS in order to improve SQ? Thanks in advance Martin

  • @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel

    @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel

    7 жыл бұрын

    If a DAC is connected directly to the Nucleus, the noise generated by the power supply can and probably will degrade the quality of the DAC. When a networked audio adaptor (NAA) like the MicroRendu is used, this is far less likely to occur when the NAA is powered by a LPS. I use a NUC ROCK and changing the PSU doesn't effect the sound of the NAA (SMoT sMS-200 in my case).

    You have the choice of either installing the Windows version of Roon Core and keep using the computer for other things as well or install the Roon Rock core in which case the Windows installation will be overwritten (including all your personal data). In either case you do need to use an SSD drive for the OS.

    How secure is roon rock from malware?

  • @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel

    @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel

    6 жыл бұрын

    I'm no expert on malware, so I can't tell. I do know that the Roon team comes from the computer side of things. Furthermore the number of Roon Rock and Roon Nucleus units installed will make it not very interested for hackers. The OS is based on Linux and Linux isn't very popular with hackers either (as target). But again, I'm no expert on malware.
