She’s amazingly good! I grew up surfing on the North Shore of Oahu in the 80’s and 90’s, way back when Tom Curren was world champion. I was often confused with Martin Potter from South Africa since we looked alike and I surfed like him. I even signed an autograph for a bunch of groupie chicks at a contest at Sunset Beach. They looked at my signature and frowned, “You’re not Martin Potter?” I laughed, “Nope, I just look like him.” Those were fun times. As we started getting older and not surfing every day, we’d watch the kids really taking the sport to the next level. We used to joke around saying, “Pretty soon these kids will be doing Ariel 360’s!” Knowing that probably wasn’t possible, but soon after we joked about it, they were actually doing it! Girl surfers were always a little behind the boys back then, but they were gaining fast. Now it’s hard to tell them apart as far as strength, guts, and power moves. This girl Kaitlin, really has some powerful kickbacks and she charges what looks like a close-out and gets barreled deep! Super fast! Wild man! I don’t pay much attention to surfing lately since I’m 60 years old now and not in Hawaii anymore, but so glad I clicked on this because this girl is amazing!

She is the future of woman's surfing wether in a jersey or free surfing. She charges, has a sick rail game, boost big airs, style lord and such a genuine personality and a really decent humble human being.

I’ve watched every heat she’s been in this year, as opposed to maybe a handful of heats for the entirety of last year. Women’s surfing is going to grow exponentially because of this new wave… with Simmers paving that way. I’d love to see her land an aerial at Trestles. She has all of that in her bag.

It's not exciting sorting world champ at same spot every year and ignoring achievements of best surfer over whole season
