Roof Framing 101 Volume 1.0

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

roofframing101.com/dvds/dvds-3/ This is a quick glimpse at the new video Roof Framing 101 Volume 1.0!
Roof framing is one of the most challenging tasks of framing. Many people have a problem calculating a simple roof rafter let alone full hip roofs by simply knowing what the pitch of roof is. By watching this video you will learn how to use a roof pitch construction calculator so you can calculate roof pitch and build a Full Hip Roof with ease.
Anton Council is a roof framing expert who teaches carpenters and contractors how to build a roof and calculate pitch of roof for any roof rafter whether it's for shed roofs, hip roofs, or gable roof.

Nice work, it takes skills to build a roof. I Contracted for 35 years so I understand the steps. I tell you though, you got to show safety on these videos. You can't have someone air nailing towards another worker at close range without even safety glasses on. Your selling all parts of you're work including safety. People will buy that that assurance just knowing nobody got hurt.

I am a retired Builder contractor I was a framing contractor for 30 years then became a builder contractor. I consider myself a master Carpenter a master root cutter I even used to piecework cutting roofs. I would generally get myself a 2-foot by 2-foot piece of plywood and transfer the outside wall line on the plywood exactly how the blueprint shows it. Man I would label every Ridge hip Valley By Numbers such as hip number 1 number Ridge number 1 Ridge number 2 and so forth. Then I would label every board accordingly I would label all the Jack Raptors 1234 and their location. Dacres would come behind me and put the roof together they would tell me after they set their Commons and Ridge and hip 99% of the time the ridge was level if you know what you're doing and you calculate everything out to the 16th of an inch everything will fit exactly the way it is supposed to. You have to beat. But people who know I can teach and then it's up to you to read and study and learn everything there is to know about cutting a roof because if you don't you'll be mediocre and you won't have your roof come together like they're supposed to there are a lot of tricks of the trade like setting back your valleys lowering your hips for the right Raptor Heights laying out your ridges so that stackers know exactly where to nail every board. I even cut all of my Gable studs my purlin strips and collar ties everything you need to put the roof together I would cut and label and stacked next to the house it was ready to go for any crew that knew what they were doing. Oh and by the way it is your duty to teach younger guys under you the same way you were taught so that they could carry on the trade.

I myself am a master roof cutter, I'm embarking on showing any young guys in the trade, how to become the best they can be at no cost. I understand that what you are showing is true and relevant, but I believe that if we don't past the knowledge forward that we have shorted the next generation.

Do to the fact that this roof was never intended to be a permanent structure and was only meant to be used as an example and disassembled later. We only nailed it with 8d nails which would not be sufficient for a real project. Connection specifications are usually set forth by the structural engineer.

Nick...is it possible to redo the entire structure from the inside of an attic? None of the rafters were measured and cut right. ...I dont know how I still have a roof. The main rafter isnt even attached to the frame. I dont know how it passed inspection. Anyway...I'm stuck with this problem. Is it fixable?

i agree with calc rafters first but i get actual plate to plate measurements then cut all raftres on the ground also cutting all overhang tails including hips. when cutting a bastard hip roof i set all ridge boards 1st then all commons then we run overhangs all the way around string a line pt to pt perfect everytime

Its a bit more complex than that, dealing with different thicknesses and widths to make and the connections "tight and right". But yes if people understand the Pythagoras theorem it is all geometry.

Kind of puzzling we have had a red roofer book in Australia for as long as I have been in the building industry It has a table of lengths , for Rafters creeper rafter hip rafters valley rafters and all pitches . once you have the building spans and the pitch you just look up the table and cut your roof out mm basic First year apprentice training oh yeah!! we find metric is much easier than all the feet and inches stuff after all we are in the 21st century

Mate I’m from Australia too and I can’t stand carpenters needing a rafter length book to be able to figure and cut a roof. It’s why so many carpenters are still at an apprentice level when it comes to complex roof framing and multiple pitch roofs with bastard hips.

i flat quit when my foreman wanted me to hold a beam while he was shooting nail directly at me. told him I didnt feel comfortable. he replied, thats why we are paying you +3 dollars more than min wage. I told him, I will not be able to spend it, if a nail get shot into my skull, if he misses. unsafe work practices are very common. workers feel that if they speak up they will get fired or laid off. i truely dislike arse h o l e foremen like that.

Mate just times everything by 25.4. There’s 25.4mm in 1 inch. There’s 12 inches in 1 foot. 12 x 25.4 = 304.8mm. A real carpenter/framer should be able to understand both metric and imperial measurements.
