Ronnie O'Sullivan reacts to Mark Selby branding him disrespectful at the Crucible!

Спорт

Mark Selby thought Ronnie O'Sullivan's cavalier approach to getting out of his snookers was disrespectful! Check out the Rocket's reply...
"I'm never going to be good at getting out of snookers! It takes too much time practicing getting out of snookers, I'd rather practice break building."
O'Sullivan also gives his thoughts on having a crowd at the Crucible for the final as he bids for a sixth World Championship title, a 20th Triple Crown and a record 37th ranking title!

    Ronnie is entitled to play any shot he wants. If it's a bit reckless then it's up to Selby to capitalize on it. Selby should punish him on the table and not whine about it afterwards.

    Absolutely right, especially since Ronnie's high-risk shots often did leave a nice opening for Selby. If Selby had been able to just score enough points by playing high breaks, then he wouldn't have to rely on Ronnie trying to get out of Snookers "the right way" racking up foul points. I think it was telling that Selby didn't even play one century break during that whole match.

    Edward Balboa I’m glad Ronnie won but I wouldn’t go that far. He’s a very tuff nut to crack. Selby comes from an English 8 ball background where he was multi world champion in that, so the way he thinks and plays is those little containing safety’s or making it awkward cuing etc The fact he doesn’t allow his appointment to play free flowing snooker most of the time is probably why you feel this way about him. To me i respect the style, but each to their own opinion

    I've got a lot of respect for Selby - he's granite in a safety frame and dynamite in an attacking frame, but you can't play the game that works for you and expect your opponent to fall in line with your plans. Some players no doubt will, but Ronnie isn't one of them - he's going to play what works for him and whatever happens, happens. With guys like him you've got to expect the unexpected - it's what's made him the most exciting and watchable player since Jimmy White.

    Personally, I don't think Ronnie meant to be disrespectful, he was just digging deep and being true to his game. Fair enough, Hendry pointed out a more sensible escape route he could have taken in one of the snookers, but in the situation Ronnie was in, i.e. the scoreline, occasion, etc. he may be given the benefit of the doubt. I kind of feel for Ronnie, as being the very best must bring such high expectations with it, and he maybe feels this from the public on a subconscious level. End of the day, it is good to see a bit of mild controversy and players speaking their minds. Just makes things a bit more interesting. Great semi-final Ronnie and Mark. Thank you.

    Playing snooker for 30 years Ronnie knows himself and his game well enough to do what it takes to keep himself focused. Especially in a Crucible semifinal. If he feels it's best to skip safety's and just 'hit and hope' it's his right. The man has earned how many titles? Remember how he was criticized years ago for shooting left handed? That's what worked best for him in those situations. And you can't argue with success, can you? Looking forward to seeing Ronnie and Kyren in the final. Don't know who to root for. They both deserve it. Bravo on what he has to say about curtailing public attendance at sporting events and doing the right thing to try to finally end this pandemic situation. Lives shouldn't take a backseat to profits.

Huge respect for Mcgill. Ronnie is ronnie and nobody is going to tell him how to play. Man is a genius. 16-14 down, bangs in a 138 in 7 minutes and in a blink its 16-16. What madness are you getting at where Mark is coming from, I’m really pissed off with morons saying they know where Mark is coming from, if you morons know then you know wherever he came from he came from HIS OWN RULES, NOT SNOOKERS, there is nothing in the rules that says ‘ bores’ have to be treated to special treatment. Snivelling imbeciles such as Selby wouldn’t be playing snooker, unless he, and Peter Ebdon to generate a crowd to give up there free time to watch paint being dried. Hearn is encouraging faster play because he knows it’s dead boring without the likes of Ronnie, Alex,JimmyHendry, to a degree, nearly forgot Tony Drago, and players from Asia, Thepchaiya Anooh, forgive the spelling , but without them snooker would die, or it certainly wouldn’t be a mainline sport, Judd, sorry, but I’m doing this from a shaky memory, but those players with real flair keep the game going, Barry Hearn knows it,these bores should be reminded of just what they are, but more than that where the game will go when we don’t have flair players, because they’ve been lectured out of snooker, why don’t these people wake up, or is reality a bit to much to accept, like all the woke rubbish.

    On that particular shot Ronnie was unhappy with the ball placement after the first miss. He thought it should have been placed a bit more to the left (from his point of view). But the umpire disagreed, which got Ronnie fired up, and he just hit the cue ball '100 m/h' as Selby said. Anyway, happy with the result! And good luck to Ronnie tomorrow! I think Ronnie's safety play is brilliant, he risks bringing more balls into play whilst keeping the cue ball in a pretty good position, this means that his opponent either has to make a good pot or leave Ronnie with a chance. Ronnie speeds the game up by doing this, rather than engaging in a slow and boring safety exchange where all the reds are kept in a tight pack.

    Two top quality players and I think Ronnie called it accurately when he reacted to Marks comments as "Maybe just after coming off the table" as in it's just Marks immediate reaction fresh from the disappointing loss in which he looked like winning and let it slip away so Mark was obviously very annoyed and disappointed at that moment like anyone would be and so like any of the worlds top player at anything they will tend to blame "anything but me" for letting that one get away but I have no doubt once Mark had a bit of time to chill and reflect he'd say something else. Mind games is part of sport too as anyone who played any sport on a somewhat comparative level will tell you and Mark applied his mind games on Ronnie too throughout the match but Ronnie just about kept it together and Mark just about cracked to Ronnie's mind games lol so... ya, normally a player wouldn't ever show that you got at them mentally because it obviously is something other players tap into and know will work on you whenever they play you so will just do it too lol BUT, this is an interview with a very P'd off Mark immediately after the loss and so he was still fuming and just let his guard down for a bit. No hating though, both top guys and top players.

    In a strange way Ronnie's approach helped to get Selby off of his game plan. Selby has a master game plan for playing Ronnie and that involves waiting unnecessary on shots to annoy the opponent, very calculated pot attempts with always a safety element build in, maybe sometimes even intentionally breaking down on moments where it's almost impossible to lose the frame. He forces the opponent to play his game and that works because his approach is so clever. But when Ronnie started to smash the reds when he was in a snooker, suddenly he not played according to Selby's terms and mentally that had a big impact - even though when I was watching it, I could not believe it, because 9 out of 10 he was handing the frame to Selby. But somehow it worked.

  • @9Fahim

    @9Fahim

    2 жыл бұрын

    yeah i get where your saying it was strange how it worked when he was handing frames on a plate to selby ;BUT ronnies figured something out. you can hand frames but ifyou keep mentally strong you keep your rythem as you know mentally it was "on your terms" "You controlled this situation" so it becomes a game of ping pong where frames ae being won randomly because when you smash the balls you dont know what it going to happen and this is where it un-nerved selby. Ronnie has figured out something! It was calculated "smashes" . This guy ronnie has been playing snooker for so long that he KNOWS snooker inside out. He is complete in snooker and the patterns that occur in frames are taking place. He is a genuis mind.
