Very nice work. The mill is very nice again, maybe better than new. Thanks for sharing. Take care, Ed.

G'day Ed. Thanks for your comments, Greatly appreciated. Many hours of work off camera setting up, which has paid off really well. Right now the mill is puring like a kitten.

Tramming a milling head like the RF or a Bridgeport style knee-mill is a real headache until you realize why your adjustments don't work or even make matters worse. When you adjust the head the pivot point is not the bar that is holding the indicator. The pivot point is nearly a foot (~300mm) above or below the bar holding the indicator. You are swinging the indicator along an imaginary arc centered on those pivot points. If the tram is close, happy days for adjustments. If out more than just a little bit, if you shim the base or rotate the head then instead of one reading going up and one reading going down, they both go up. Then you are like a dog chasing its tail for 45 minutes trying to tram the stupid head. Some buy or make an attachment with 2 dial indicators on a beam to make a quicker job of it. If you ever use one you can directly see the two indicator needles chase each other as the head is brought into tram. With a single indicator, only try to get 1/3 to 1/2 the difference in readings at each trial sweep when making an adjustment. Three or four tries should have you in like Flynn. Cheers from NC/USA

It took a while to Tram, that is true. I did the X to Zero first, then the Y which is Zero rechecked the X & Y several times, & as you would have seen in the Video, both the X & Y were both Zero. Also the Vice was trammed in as well to Zero. So what else would you have liked me to do. The double guage system is not always the way to Tram

Another excellent one Ted, very instructional and methodical approach. Watched it earlier but nodded off in the chair & didn’t get to hit the thumbs up or leave a comment, so had to come back & watch it again to get through to the end, & hit the like button and leave a comment. Seem to be nodding off during machining videos a bit lately & the missus then pinches the remote & by the time I wake up we are watching dancing with the stars & I can’t even remember what I was watching when I fell asleep. 😂😂

having watched all three videos and found them helpful in the teardown of my mill (ZX 30) the only part that has me concerned is the over use of the shifter. Surely you have spanners and sockets available.

Gday Thanks for your comments. I use the shifter because I have made Up 3 different draw bars, and have different thread sizes with lock nuts & I like to make sure the ER 32 collects are locked 🔒 on properly used in conjunction the Larger ER 32 Key
