Those defenders was tough, u could see the hard tackle on Ronaldo. 2000s defenders was getting softer and did more to clean tackle. Thats why the el classico was exciting not because of Messi and CR7 scoring the goals, but because of Sergio ramos and pepe was doing the hard tackle that excites the match even more. U didint expect to get soft tackle and getting paid at the same time,right.

back then tackle ftom behind your back is permissible, offside rule is different, so striker must be fast and strong to pass defender. if messi and cristiano play in that era, they wont stand a chance, a little slow dribbling outside the penalty box would get tackled immediately. and because of ronaldo fenomeno , the rule of tackle from your back is not allowed anymore. so players nowadays have owe great advantages, and you cant compare nowadays players with that era..no way..

when Messi was dribbling, only sergio ramos did a hard tackle on him. the others was like just let him pass . The defenders who did hard tackle on him from old generation is only Nesta. But R9 was crazy, everyone did a hard tackle on him and they are trying to kill him. No wonder he did get that injury

Not quite although Ronaldo scored 47 goals for Barcelona in all competitions and it certainly was one of the greatest seasons ever. Messis 2011-2012 season he scored 73 goals for Barcelona that season in 60 starts and had 29 assists that season aswel that's 102 g/a total that season in 60 starts let that sink in. He scored more than once in 22 games that season, he scored a brace 12 times, a hatrick 7 times, 4 goals twice and 5 goals in a single game. Scoring a goal every 71.5 minutes. Scoring every 4.4 shots he had. Then the 2012-2013 season he scored 60 goals in 50 starts and had 18 assists that season that's 78 g/a in 50 games. And was actually more clinical in scoring every 67.7mins and every 3.6 shots. Lastly have to mention 2014-2015 when Messi scored 58 goals in 57 games and had 27 assists which is 84 g/a in 57 games. All these 3 seasons are so far ahead of anyone else because of the sheer amount of assists aswel, all 3 seasons are more than a goal a game and more than 1.5 goals and assists per game. The 2011-2012 and 2014-2015 are over 1.7 goals and assists per game for the whole season. But that 1996 Ronaldo season was special as a complete number 9 Striker I will admit but Messis was as something not human because it was the best as a striker and playmaker in the same season

In PSV they both scored the same number of goals. In Barca as well. But Ronaldo was 6 years younger than Romario. By the time he got as old as Romario, Ronaldo was hampered by his injuries. Also, Ronaldo was a completely unique forward in that he almost always started with the ball from a midfielder position and then he tried to beat everyone along the way to the goal, including dribbling the goalkeeper. To his credit, Ronaldo scored many times from those deep positions. Romario was "el Rey del Area", so his job was not as difficult as the job of Ronaldo. Hence the imprecision of Ronald compared to Romario!
