Is it just me or does anyone else find it weird that Heir feels the need to explain how Rome 2's battles work? I mean it has been out for 7 years...there must really be a significant part of his fanbase that came in during Warhammer.

I'm gonna be honest I started watching your videos cause of Warhammer 1 and I've never managed to get into watching Rome 2 videos just partly cause I don't really understand what certain units do and what certain factions are good at compared to one another and cause its been out for like 7 years most youtubers don't explain that sort of thing in their videos. So I know that most people probably skipped the beginning part because they were like 'Heir why are you explaining the basics of a 7 year old game when you've done like 100s of videos on it before?' but I just wanted to say thanks for explaining it to those of us who began watching your channel cause of Warhammer it made the battle far easier to follow and I really enjoyed it and its making me really look forward to more battles from this tournament!!

Hey heir, I have been watching your channel ever since 2014, right about since this game has come out. When I first started you had less than 60k subscribers and I watched every video you posted about this game. As time went on and I got older it gets harder to watch, but I still sometimes watch consistently, and at least twice a week. Thank you for your content and your effort, I appreciate it a lot and seeing a return to Rome 2 brings back good memories of both those times as well as this channel. Now I am almost 20 and feel as though I owe you a good bit of gratitude for keeping me entertained throughout so much. I hope Baby Heir and Mrs. Heir are both well, and I hope the same for yourself as well. Hope to support you more soon as well.

Yes for sure. My favorite line was when he commented on a 2v2 from a team in the US and one in the EU. As the US team just lost in a really close game we got "Democracy Denied". And I believe he coined the term Pastati referencing Hastai in a Spaghetti line. OfC we all still love Heir.

Finally, a worthy game for a worthy channel. This shall be legendary.

I’ve been subscribed for well over a year and a half waiting for more rome 2

As much as I love Warhammer, I have to say I enjoy watching Rome battles more. The manoeuvring and back and forth are much more visible while Warhammer battles are often won or lost with a buff spell or magic item which isn't really visible to an observer.

The best thing about the historical total wars is that they’re less reliant on army comp, you could pick what you wanted and roll with it if your tactics and micro were good enough. I love Warhammer, but army comp just seems a bit too necessity to get right.

also there are a lot less cheese tactics that you can pull off in historical titles compared to Warhammer e.g wasting enemy ammo or blobbing etc etc

Best case scenario is HOC provides color commentary to a scheduled livestream tournament or at least does more vids!!! He understands the game mechanics better than anybody on youtube.

The multiplayer in this game always felt so much more fair and balanced than the new warhammer games, nice to see it return.

According to steamcharts and steamdb, on 15 June 2020, Rome II had a peak of 8.1K concurrent players (slightly lower than its 30-day avg peak of 8.9K), compared to WH II with 38K and 3 Kingdoms with 10.2K, Shogun II with 5.7K and Med II with 4.6K. This was also enough to make Rome II the 83rd most played game on Steam today.

Am I the only one who prefers watching competitive "historical TW" over "fantasy TW"?

Everyone spits on this game but in the end the campaign is great and the multiplayer was one of the best if not the best after warhammer 2 and people keep coming to this game more than they do with other games

How often is Cavalry allowed to charge? And is it beneficial to just keep pulling out and charging back in? I'm sure there are some negative repercussions to that, right? And does this work with infantry units as well?

I hope CA will implement a realistic battle difficulty in their future games where combats last longer, units can't run like rabbits and tire faster.

I really didnt think slingers were effective against armour. I thought javelin units were. Slings were more effective against numerous unarmoured units.

I have always found it interesting that slingers hurling stones is armor piercing and archers with arrows is not. Seems like it would be just the opposite.

I think that CA's intent for slingers wasn't so much that they were strictly armour piercing as much as armour negating. The idea is that a slingstone to the helmet will still give you a concussion, while an arrow from classical era bows wouldn't really punch through anything that you could call armour (but could seriously cut you up if it hit flesh). Yes, some of the Persian/Horse Nomad factions should, historically, be using composite bows, but the majority of the game's factions in Europe and around the Med would have been using fairly basic simple bows, and there does have to come a point where game balance steps in to stop armour piercing horse archer spam from becoming an auto-win.

Am I the only one that was sad there was no one playing the Suebi. The Rome 2 Suebi and the Shogun 2 Ikko Ikki might be tied for my two favorite factions from any historical total war game with Medieval 2 Egypt being a close 2nd. Don't really have a reason why just enjoyed them the most from their respective games. Though Galatian raiders and legionaries are really cool units so that is a plus.

Is deploying as a team not a thing in Rome II? Every team battle I've seen always have the teams deploy separately when it would seem that, as in Warhammer, deploying together gives you the advantage.

Deploying as a team in Rome 2 tended to make it much easier to be out flanked and there really weren't any benefits to deploying together. Warhammer has a lot of buff spells that tend to be in a (relatively) small radius so being close to each other means you can get more buffs from magic and abilities. I find it makes Warhammer team battles more about teamwork then the older ones...as they would generally end up as 2 separate battles that ended in the survivors facing off.

rome 2 favoured spreading ur lines out as there wasnt really a morale penalty to do it and in warhamer the ai is better at getting units to fight even in deep ranks , this way outflanking isnt a thing so cav tend to do frontal charging

The key in Rome 2 is outflanking, attacking or shooting, otherwise the persone with the better infantry would just win. It's all about manoeuvering.

Might be an unpopular opinion but I think you shouldn't be able to see your opponent's unit's morale or if they are routing/breaking. More tactical considerations on whether the enemy is actually routing or the other player is just luring your troops forward.
