Thanks so much, ChamberFest Cleveland, for sponsoring and uploading this master performance! I see from about a hundred comments and 6900 views that you achieved your musical and cultural purpose! This generated much thought and aesthetic response, and reflections on other remembered performances. It helped me in my writing project, just as it helped one woman in the audience to perfect her knitting, and others to muse - "God gives sleep to His beloved"! (Psalm 127:2) We appreciated Roman's careful words of introduction and history.
I am pleased that Roman’s introduction ended with the word: ‘enjoy.’ Indeed, his performance brings great joy. I think his performance is such a pleasure because one senses that he is not only focused on a musically superb performance, but in providing the audience the same ‘escape’ from troubling times that he found in Bach.
Dare I imagne this ?: Bach, beer in hand, lustily shouting "Bravo !! Bravo !! " This is the loveliest interpretation I have heard
Wonderful!A lover of Bach!!!A pleasure.Thank you
Beautiful. Thank you for sharing your talent and hard work.
❤❤
Fantastic
Thank you for the beautiful tempo and tempi
Meraviglioso!
An amazing performance, and for us the the commentary added so much to it.
Bravo. Congrats!
Anyone who can play all variations, in particular live, has my deep consideration. Not ideal seating configuration for the auditors, it seems. Nicely played, quite classical interpretation. Faithful to what is written.
This was wonderful to watch, I especially loved variation 1. I felt the aria was a little sluggish though. Anyone else?
Speed to at least 1.25, he's a slow speaker, set back for the music.
Un version touchante et élégante avec un certain sens de la dynamique...et de la retenue...mais la version de Gould est et reste indétrônable à mon goût !
Yes, but maybe the Art of the Fugue... is better ? i think so.
I8:05 would have preferred if his left hand were more prominent and his right hand less so as I believe the mood is delivered by the left hand. 23:06 too slow and unenthusiastic. 25:08 too legato. The rest is likely poorly interpreted.
