Thank you for the wonderful presentation Alan, very interesting and really fun to watch your reaction and listen to your commentary. You're right, the Stones are often sparse with the "stuff" they include in these deluxe editions : high on price, low on stuff. My local store didn't get physical copies (CD's and LP's) until today, a full 7 days after the announced date. Like you, I believe this certainly impacted sales. Let's hope they catch up.

I recently bought Goats Heads Soup Deluxe (because I really wanted Brussels Affair). So I couldn’t go deluxe for this one. But I enjoyed the unboxing and thought the book looked nice. I agree, I think it was a lot more fun when we stuck the insets/posters right in the wall. If I got an insert I really loved, I might consider framing it and putting in a wall.

Thanks so much. Yea - just occured to me live in my video - how back in the day, stuff that came with albums went right on the walls - no concern about damaging them or anything - the point was to display. They weren't "precious". Now I have tons of box sets with posters and more and they sit in the box too precious to do anything with and then I'll die and they'll simply be dumped. Weird, but get this guilt that can't breakup these nice boxsets.....I say - yea - go frame it and display it. It'll bring more pleasure than sitting in a box.

Hi Alan, i got the box set too and though i like the book i cant believe the Living in a Ghost town track is not included as an bonus track as it is with a Japanese edition of the cd. I agree about the album being fantastic and at least here in Blighty we have got a number one place in the UK charts

You sure do. Great achievement. I’m happy with the Atmos mix. And glad I bought the box. But they could’ve done so much more on the dvd. Definitely should’ve added Ghost Town as a bonus song as well as a ghost town video, Angry video and some graphics while watching and listening to the Blu-ray would’ve been nice.

I really enjoyed your first unboxing video. I could feel your anticipation the minute it began. Your sincere opinions are refreshing. And your “asides” are always interesting (in the case of this video: The one about hanging up posters from boxsets vs. preserving them in the box).

There were a lot of variations but many were available by mail from the UK (Carnaby St. red, Zoetrope, Paul Smith, etc.) so a lot of sales to buyers in the US ended up being UK sales.

The book looks gorgeous! I didn't purchase this set, but I'm tempted just for that. Everyone has been discussing how Universal really dropped the ball on the distribution. Orders never arrived and you couldn't find the CD or records anywhere! I looked at the US chart and the Stones did very poorly in the streaming, so physical product was going to determine how well they performed on the charts and I know people whose items haven't even shipped yet. I'm with you, I think this really hurt sales...BUT...on the bright side, the Stones hit it out of the park with this album! Just incredible they pulled it off and it's as great as it is! Enjoy your set!

Exactly. Apparently the sales for this week are strong because many were the original pre sales that didn’t get shipped until this week. If they counted towards the first week may have had a number 1 after all. The distribution was a disaster.

There was a distribution problem in my neck of the country too. I live in the Chicago area. I got mine late from Amazon also. No excuse for whatever went on. I though there was such demand that there weren’t enough to go around. Love tracks 4 and 5 especially.

I spoke to local store owners - the distribution was a disaster - they couldn't get their hands on them to sell them. And with the money spent on the promotion - it's a shame - I've no idea what happened, but it didn't help the sales.

I basically bought the CD+Blu-ray Deluxe edition for the nice looking book. Saved $20 by ordering it from the U.K. version of Ebay (from Chalky's UK) so it's gonna be a while until it gets here. Which is fine, I guess. I also special ordered the MLB jacket variant (Twins) from my local Indie shop, and they're having a helluva time getting it in from the distributor. The buzz is that the U.S. distribution has been a total nightmare. Well, stands to reason I suppose; such a tiny market. 😆 Here's another strange one: for the LP versions with the black and color vinyl variants the printed inner sleeve does not have the song lyrics on them - just the album credits - but the jewel case CD booklet version does. So, the vinyl versions cost more than twice as much as the CD versions but it's the CD versions that get the song lyrics. Wrap your head around that logic. 😵‍💫 It gets even more confounding: the booklet for the digipak CD version (a Barnes & Noble exclusive) has photographs of the boys, as well as the song lyrics, where the jewel case CD booklet version does not have any photos. Huh? The release of this album the definite whiff of a rush job. It's really too bad that such an excellent record is being marred by packaging inconsistencies and distribution problems.

wow - alot of interesting information I didn't know about. Yea - total inconsistencies. Doesn't make sense at all. Seems like the promotion was done with an endless budget and run with military precision - the production and distribution not even in the same league. Strange

Hi Alan, I can assure you, i have had the same thoughts about my box sets, autographed albums , come my demise. I suppose, if it makes you happy and you get enjoyment from collecting albums , box sets etc, that's cool. I also ruined posters by pinning them to my wall as a teenager. I've kept them all despite their tardiness, for completeness i suppose. The paper Knickers from Alice Coopers " Schools out" never made my bed room wall , however the goats head soup and the dark side of the moon posters did.

Thanks so much for watching and sharing your personal experiences with collecting and enjoying our collections. I have pictures of my bedroom growing up (I should show them one day) and literally every inch of every wall was covered in posters and album inserts like the Goats Head Soup. We bought the albums, listened over and over again and enjoyed them. Not a concern about pressing number or keeping them immaculate (or not listening to them - which a lot of collectors seem to do now). Music shouldn't be just an investment, though it certainly can be of course. It brings us incredible pleasure. I keep thinking these amazing boxsets I buy with the posters etc. I just fold them up and eventually they'll wind up for 10 cents on the dollar at a used record store or worse. Anyway thanks so much again.

I'm with you Tom - for the price, could've gotten much more. On the deluxe Blu-ray in the least, should have included the Angry video and the shorter 7" version of Sweet Sounds Of Heaven. I would've put Ghost Town on there as well as a bonus track. As I said, when it comes to deluxe boxes, The Stones are more sizzle than steak. Glad I have it though.

It’s s great way to go out. Rolling Stone Blues at the end. Such a classy bonus. Cherry on top. But I can see them going on. So much left over. Now if it’s really good is another story. But they found a great collaborator in Andrew Watt.

A very good unboxing! Looks nice but as we can see on your face a little bit disappointing for a deluxe set. That is rather surprising really, after all the promotion you would have thought that they'd make an extra effort like the Ladies & Gentlemen box set.

I’m used to not having high expectations from the stones deluxe boxes. But it’s fine and it wasn’t too expensive. I’m really enjoying the Atmos mix so that’s really good. I’m happy with it.

I bet those boxes will be worth some change bc everything is in them.

Possibly - I see some of the older super deluxe boxset like the Goats Head Soup going for cheap on Amazon. Much less than I paid for them. I don't think they sold too well.

Atmos mix is the way to go for eargasm...CD gives me earfatigue by the tune when Macca gets on that fuzzy bass tune comes in.❤

@@TheRollingStoness yeah, the gatefold of the vinyl is a waste of space. The artwork could’ve been so much better. But the book in the Deluxe Edition is good and yes, it has the lyrics funny and that I’ve never been the kind of person that sits in reads lyrics in my own way, I prefer not knowing the stones official lyrics and just picking them up overtime and in some cases never. Knowing the lyrics like tumbling dice. Must’ve heard the song 10,000 times and I still have no idea what the lyrics are. In my own weird way, I find that appealing

My Amazon green vinyl, alternative cover, arrived today. I have gotten enough variants to help make this No.1 in the universe😂 Congratulations on loosing your unboxing virginity 😂🤣. I've been listening to my Blu-Ray and have been impressed with it. I thought the book was nice as well. Still waiting for my zoetrope disc to arrive from England, where I helped to make the album no.1 there 😝

Almost forgot the hazmat suit during the pandemic😂.

Yeah. The distribution was horrible. None of my local stores got the album in any format until days later. Cd was rarer then the vinyl.

Can we talk about the cover art? I don't mind a glossy, artsy-fartsy, candy colored concept, but it's just a little "Hmmm...that's it?" I mean, first studio album in 18 years--how about a conceptual photo concept, ala what so many classic 70s rock albums had? I mean, that would certainly appeal to their base, especially if you snazzed it up by having alternate photos for the vinyl versions (meaning, same concept picture, just different perspectives) and have the CD cover be the static/standard cover. I'm sure they had many exceptionally talented artists and marketing firms come up with a variety of options--and some where along the brain trust, someone said "This one"....I just think a 'clever' package might have juiced up pre-orders as well, or at least given a little more sizzle to the eye test. The cover just doesn't do it for me. I mean, Bigger Bang had a curious cover with the opposite views of a cryptic photo, but even that didn't move me. Honestly, the last great cover concept on a Stones studio album was Tattoo You, which presented such a striking vision on record store shelves. But really, where the hell do you GO to buy a record or CD on it's release date anymore? I mean, I by no means live in a small town, and I can only think of ONE retailer in a 20 mile radius that actually sells music in some tactile form--and it ain't a department store....

Hi - thanks so much for watching and commenting. We definitely can discuss the cover art. I mentioned the last album cover that I truly liked immediately was Undercover, and I'm in the minority because most people hate that cover - but I loved it with the stickers etc. That was 1983. To be honest I wasn't a fan of Tattoo You's cover - was so weird - though I did like the Keith art - but I grew to like it. Thought the album was incredible, so the art overall is not that important, but a great cover does add significantly to the package. Considering how special a return after 18 years and the death of Charlie Hackney Diamonds is - I thought the cover art, the name and concept was odd. Seems in interviews, the Stones themselves were clueless for an album name and Hackney Diamonds came up and they were like OK - that'll work. But it's not a terrible cover - it's good for what it is. The gatefold for the vinyl is a joke - yea overall they could've done so much better - but the album, the songs, the music - fantastic return, and of course that's the most important thing.

@@timhendrixson7522 nice to see another undercover fan. It’s an album I always go back to ever since it first came out. I call it a great Stones album, amongst others, for Stones fans.

In the UK it's TV advertised. Your fave Taylor swift will beat it next week. First mayor rock album in ages to be available in UK supermarkets think big shops that sell everything lol. Hmv UK brought ton's of copies. Rock doesn't sell in UK anymore. Live it's great but sales not great. Back catalogue sells but new rock bands if it wasn't for the internet they wouldn't get a look in. As for radio one mayor rock station and other smaller ones. And planet rock the mayor rock station has a very poor playlist and tons of commercials in an hour the day I listened only half a dozen tracks and lots of talking lol. No other rock band will sell. Gigs yes but there incredibly expensive. I fear for teenage rock fans today shame. We had the best days.

We sure did Mark. The US is worse. The local record stores weren’t even able to get the new album now they have a few copies. Commercial radio hasn’t even played it here in the states a DJ will talk about the new stones album and then play satisfaction. How depressing is that? I can do a whole video on the death of classic rock here in the US. Rock radio stop playing new music decades ago. Typical casual fans stopped wanting to hear new music. I saw Billy Joel recently and he made a joke that he has good news. He’s not playing any new music and everybody cheered. I think I was the only one who saw the irony. Hence the death of classic rock thanks as always.

Figures the US market would fart out as far as album sales....I mean, really??? Blink 180Crap....And yes, given the amount of hype, and the "built in" factor you get with the Stones audience, if any release of there's was going to get to No. 1, it would be this one. Bigger Bang got no better than #4, and that was with a massive US tour to accompany it's release. And they really don't play much of the 'new album' in their shows anymore--maybe three at best. I just don't know if their audience really 'buys' music anymore--not that they're downloading it...I'm sure some Taylor Swift release will swallow everything up very soon...

Taylor Swift’s new album is expected to do 1,500,000 in one week. Now that’s insane numbers. As for the stones, it’s especially a bummer because it seems like the second week sales are going to be strong because of all the delayed shipments counting in the second week and that the first week. If they would’ve shipped on time, it’s possible there album could’ve been number one and that’s really upsetting. All this promotion and gigantic money spent and it gets screwed up Because of distribution. What a shame.

No pre order arrival on time? I'll tell you what it is. It's a flim flam! You pay for this and they give you that!

But what WAS the problem with distribution? It cannot be that there wasn’t adequate product produced to meet demand? Even if the CD or record doesn’t get to a brick and mortar store, who goes to brick and mortar stores to buy anything anymore? Two clicks on Amazon and it’s on your porch a day later-in theory. I mean, it’s not 1975 (or ‘85…’95???) when you had to go to a brick and mortar store to buy the music in tactile form. If you pre-order it, or download a digital stream, doesn’t that count as a “sale”, even if the product isn’t on your door step the day of release??

@@anthonyaswe4174 I don’t see people talking about it. I don’t know what happened. Hopefully when the sales numbers come out for the 2nd week they’ll be a discussion about what happened. I did see one comment from a knowledgeable source that’s expects strong 2nd week sales because it’s finally available and those would’ve contributed to first week sales if it was available and probably would’ve given them a number 1 which makes sense. And you’re right. How could this have happened? I literally couldn’t get the cd. Now it it’s out there in the retail to a certain extent.

PLEASE ! PUT it back in the box and ship it back , this album is a train wreck nightmare of pop crap

I'm glad I bought it and have it - simply for the Atmos mix, but as a boxset goes, it's nothing special. That's for sure.
