I met Mick and Keith in a neighborhood tavern when I was a child. I went with my Dad to pick up his instruments from a gig from the night before. He was an accordion player who lead a Polka Band. In walk these two. They conversed with my father for a while, after seeing him with his instruments. They bought me a soda, and patted me on the head, while calling me a fine young lad. My Dad always told everyone that story. R.I.P. Dad ❤️

That's the cool thing. Brian was a very good slide and rythm guitarist and Keith is - as always - a miserable lead guitarist. Just listen to his bad and simple solo on the studio version of "Sympathy ..." in 68. Here he plays false notes on in the beginning of the Satisfaction riff. But is fun to hear the band as a unit in 65. Charlie really drives them and Brian and Bill are cool!
When I was growing up you were either a Beatles fan or Stones fan. The youngest of 5 kids I followed what my siblings liked. We were a Stones family. Eventually I became a huge fan of Beatles. Still can’t get enough of both bands.

@@haraldversteegden2562 I disagree. Jones was always the epitome of cool and with Jagger not far behind. But in the 60s, Richards looks like the most gawky and unnatural stage presence I've ever seen. In my opinion, it was only at the end of the decade, after about 8 years apprenticeship observing Jones and Jagger, that Richards finally came into his own on stage. His increasing drug dabbling also probably 'helped'.

The German kids were wearing suits mostly, and sitting obediently.
After reading a few of the more recent comments, some historical perspective is helpful here. In the early and mid 60's, there was a pecking order for rock bands and a style for rock shows that does not exist today. In that time, on stage monitors did not exist, and touring gear was rather basic. The Beatles (as a comparison) were the top band of that time, and were playing arena and stadium gigs (Shea) without that gear. They kept in time with Ringo banging the drums for all he was worth, and it worked. Here, Charlie Watts is not banging away like Ringo did. The timekeeper was Brian Jones' guitar, which was cranked up high so the others didn't get ahead or behind in a song. The mics were set up the way they were because of the nature of the show the Stones were playing in that time. They were not the only act, but shared the stage with other 'up and coming' bands on that tour. The way shows were done was it was act after act after act. This is why Ian Stewart is rushing the stage after the last song. They had to get off the stage and make way for the next group. No drum riser here, so the drums had the mics they did out of necessity for efficiency, and no front of house sound either. Rock shows then were very chaotic affairs, as this was still in it's infancy at that time. For a better idea of how this worked, watch the NME award shows (there are several versions) on YT from 64 and 65, which feature both the Stones and Beatles. It wasn't until about the later 60's that shows would evolve to what they are more like today.

I'll never forget July 4,1969! I was 11 years old and my family and my late cousin Julio's family were celebrating American Independence Day at Hansen Dam in Lakeview Terrace, California. We were barbecuing and having a ball swimming. Later on, my cousin Julio, brother Tony and I walked across the street to a Liquor Store to buy Ice Cream and Soda Pops. As we walked in, I went over to a stack of newspapers and was staggered reading the headline which read something like "Rolling Stone Drowns In Pool Tragedy". I shouted out to my brother Tony, "hey Tony, I think Mick Jagger drowned in his pool" as I continued reading I found out it was Brian Jones and that he drowned the day before in his pool on July 3,1969. I was simply stunned. I wasn't aware Brian Jones was dismissed by The Rolling Stones on June 9,1969. Later on my dad dropped us off at White's Record Store in Pacoima, California. We admired Mr. White, an Afro-American, who always had his store stocked with Rolling Stone records. I was surprised to see he was open. It was Friday July 4,1969. As I walked in I asked him if he'd heard of Brian's death and said he had and how sad it was. He then said that The Rolling Stones just released a new Single that very day and I couldn't believe it! The Single was "Honky Tonk Woman/You Can't Always Get What You Want". I guess that's one of the reasons Mr. White opened that day. I immediately bought it and took it home! I quickly noticed Brian wasn't on the cover. The cover depicted The Rolling Stones standing at a bar with new Stone Mick Taylor. I was blown away by Charlie's Drums at the beginning of the song! I sat there in my room listening to that single countless times mourning Brian's passing. I just couldn't believe he no longer graced this Earth. REST IN ETERNAL PEACE ~ LEWIS BRIAN HOPKIN JONES

There were decent monitors as a regular feature of USA shows for San Francisco acts, as early as 1966. Like so many things with the (earlier) Beatles, they seemed to get the worst set-ups despite being so deserving of the best.

Wow Ian Stewart at the end . Such a shame he didn't get as much recognition as he deserved for helping develop their early sound .
Look at Bill Wyman work that Bass!!!!
Check the audience - some are obviously just stunned by Micks’ uncanny, riveting performance during “It’s Alright”. A human spectacle on another level to anything a singer had done before. A legend in the making right there folks.

"A human spectacle on another level to anything a singer had done before." True for some of the stiff British audience of whites at the time. Although, on stage moves were inspired by James Brown, not that there's anything wrong with that at all.

Great to capture them with Brian as they were and yes that were Yong once 👍
Greatest band in the world!

We can't get no satisfaction, the way Brain was shafted!
Gloria a te Brian 🥂
Unreal rare early Stones footage. Verry important period right there!
Brian's rhythm guitar can be heard perfectly ❤ he was the very soul behind every song in the first stage of the band. Thanks for sharing.

Great video. Brian on the Firebird pure GOLD.

This is very good, it was very difficult to achieve good live recordings in 1965, somehow this came out remarkably good. This could be the best concert that they ever did, the colouring is very realistic, great job.

They were fantastic live. So was the Beatles. I just listened to "The Beatles live at the Hollywood Bowl" and it was equally fantastic. Neither the Stones of the Beatles could hear themselves while playing live, but they were still able to deliver kick ass performances. I saw the Stones live back in 2006, and they were amazing. I saw Paul McCartney and Elton John live too, and they were great live acts as well. Paul is doing 3 hour long shows where he is running through almost 40 songs.. The Stones and Elton did 2 hours.

they did remarkably well with such a terrible PA too. wish i could hear keith's guitar more clearly in 'satisfaction' (the fuzz just disappeared in the mix) but it's an amazing document of them live at this time

not strange, as in the 60s our whole modern society was invented. so also audio recording. they did more in those 10 years then we did in the 10.000 before. real mind blower.

The originals Rolling stones the best
How the times change , wish I was back there 👅
These are The Stones I remember with Brian Jones.
Fantastic footage… I would loved to have seen them during this period, they generated a raw excitement that (for me anyway) was somehow lost once Brian departed.

@@joejones9520 : It was a lot more complicated than just being kicked out of the Band as Brian NEVER turned up for rehearsals so almost kicked himself out of the Band. I was there in 1969 living in London, 21 years old and was at the Hyde Park Concert tripping on Acid. .. Brian lost the plot and never wanted to be a Pop Star, he was a lover of the Blues.

Thank god we have this precious footage.
Utterly important video. Absolutely captures the intense revolutionary genius of the Stones 1965. Thanks!!!!!
This is legendary !!!
9-11... in Münster Westphalia. I stayed 1 month there for school exchange at Mr and Ms Möller whose son went to this concert and took pictures for local press ... See Brian's reaction when Jagger sings " when police knocks bye bye blue bags" . "Satisfaction" was on its way to their biggest world's hit...

Hey you might like a band called The Doublejumps if you like The Rolling Stones!
This is the only one amazing BAND, there won't be another one simple as that ROLLING STONES FOR EVER greetings from Tijuana Mexico!!!!!!!!
And it happened BEFORE 1968! The Rolling Stones were the beginning.
This is - make no mistake - the peak of their power.
Brian…brilliant fella
They haven’t aged a day! 1965 and they already looked like they were 100. Oldest rock band ever.
Early Rock N Roll raw bluesy sound of the great Rolling Stones with Brian Jones. Jagger's voice, Brian's Rhythm guitar, Charlie's drums!
I’m not a Stones fan but this is 1965 and that was amazing. Unlike the Beatles, they can hear themselves play.
