The sculpture has ten different track paths with loops (both small and large), four tipping arms, balls on track, Ferris wheel ball lifter, serpentine, zig-zag, semi automated switch, two ball switch, ball collector jump, ball collector, spinning arm, three tall spirals, oval flat spiral, conical spiral and plenty of track! the helical lift has three guide tracks, delivering the marbles back to the top of the sculpture. Each set of marbles remains independent of the other two sets.
There is over 270 metres of wire within the sculpture and it has been powder coated in Silver Chrome. The total height is 2.6 metres and the sphere section is 1.4 metres in diameter. The entire sculpture can be manually turned throughout 360 degress in the vertical axis. The power to drive the motor for the lift is transfered through a system of brushes so that the cable inside does not twist and break as the sculpture is rotated.

Wintergatan Ha! Perfect. As I was watching, I thought to myself, “Martin would appreciate this.” And here you are. I’m a longtime very proud supporter and fan of Wintergatan. Cheers!
How peaceful it would be to watch that kinetic sculpture on a quiet evening.... ...as long as you had loud music playing. ...
The sheer magnitude and complexity of design, planning, angle calculations, mathematics, construction time, and the emotional investment of blood, sweat, and tears involved are beyond my imagination.
Never would I have imagined that little objects rushing frantically through a maze could be a thing of such breathtaking beauty..gives me hope
I can't stress enough how a Rhinoceros 3D would look like with the sections, elevations, axonometric and the grasshopper 3D code would look like. It would simply be a tour the force in architecture and design. This is simply outstanding.
An amazing piece of engineering. So very clever. The concept of mounting all of it in a ball on a floor to ceiling pole makes it a real artwork.

You Sir...have raised the bar very, very high in your quest for perfection. This sculpture represents pure genious level thinking. Don't stop....only you can produce works of art that please everyone on a different level. 👏 BRAVO David!! P.S. Your choice of musical accompaniment is quite fitting indeed....classical.

The precision is crazy . It's put together like a precision timepiece
Waaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!! 100% Awesome! The aesthetic of the sphere is fantastic - and absolute genius to place it near the window and stairs. The lighting is so interesting - like you have stripped away the shell of a planet and we are looking at its inner working...and as you go up the stairs you must get all these interesting new perspectives. The fact that you can spin it as well is just the icing on the cake. Inspiring!
This one is mind blowing. So many new track sections. Fantastic job!
Stunning piece of work. Beautiful, creative, and incredibly clever, all at once. Amazing.
That is beautiful and intricate. A beautiful example of Engineering and Art blend together.

I can't think of a word that describes this , perfection is the best I can do, but it does not do it justice! This is definitely a work of art, engineering masterpiece and something from imagination that has magically found its way into our world! I love it!

@@rollingballdave your welcome. I have been wanting to try one of these for a while. I was a boilermaker and I was especially good with geometry and I would love to make them myself. But I definitely recognise your talent.
A very logical sculpture. The balls rise on a central line. Most direct axis from the bottom to the top. All the rest of the space is used for the clever gravitational meandering of the spheres. Can be viewed from all sides. The result of a well ordered and beautiful mind with excellent metal working and welding skills. Amazing. 🌀⚖🛠🗝✴

Amazing Rolling Ball Sculpture Engineered to perfection awesome.
Amazing! Billiard balls on a pool table to "break" or some other tricky shot? Scaled up with bowling balls and ten pins at the end? Oh my! You've got me thinkin' at 3 AM in a nursing home. Thanks

Thanks! Yes it was many months of work.
Absolutely amazing, to my mind this is art. I don’t think that you could ever have it on public display because someone small minded dip-wad would bend the track. How long did it take to construct? Were you able to pre-construct some components? Fantastic work!
@rollingballdave

Took a few months to build. Most components are made on the workbench and then added.

David Morrell Amazing! Your artwork is constantly evolving. How do you build them? I want to try, I'm all thumbs when it comes to anything requiring manual dexterity (last time I tried to wash a tea cup I burnt the house down) but i'd still like to give it a go! I'm guessing you use stainless steel rods and form them into the intricate trackwork. Do you solder them together with a normal electronic soldering iron?

First off this is amazing! And I live in Oregon so we have this place called OMSI (Oregon museum of science and industry) and they have a big version of something like this
It would take me a very very very long time to get tired of watching such a thing.
I mean, it's beautiful, but who would want that noise in their house all day? lol I'm not sure what's more amazing, the engineering/design or the manufacturing.

Glad you liked the sculpture. These are often set to run off of a motion sensor for a set time if someone enters the room, rather than just running all the time 👌
Truly beautiful. Working on my second ball machine now, but its nothing like this lol.
This is what you call art, not a picture of a red square, or a ball of string on the floor.
