Rolling Ball Sculpture cn:145 - Glass mounted sculpture.

Ғылым және технология

www.rollingballsculpture.com.au
These two large sculptures are the culmination of months of designing, planning, construction and installation. The sculpture contains a host of new track components and mechanisms. The two main sections of the sculpture measure 1500mm x 900mm x 800mm and are each suspended on a single pane of glass which is mounted to the ceiling and floor. The two main sections are then connected together with thirteen tubular chrome plated bridges, one jump and one tipping bridge. The 35mm marbles remain on their own system, yet intertwine and interact with each other throughout the entire sculpture. The sculpture is also connected to the in-home automation system by the client, and switches on when movement is detected in the room and complies with various settings as set by the user.

Epic David! Love the slow-mo jump from one side to the other starting around 4:20 ... and the planet marbles at 3:18 are so cool.

This is by far one of the best works in his repertoire. It's simply epic. I can't imagine the 3D model for this sculpture. I know it's worked artistically but a documented set of plans would be a magnificent work of art too. It's outstanding.

Thanks so much. I never had any plans for this. It was an idea and I built what was in my.head.

@@rollingballdave I saw few of your documentaries building the pieces. It's an on site construction with the piece directly. I was thinking on a way how these things may be replicated, reproduced or archived. The uniqueness of the piece is the value of it. I'm aware of this. It would be a real artistic task building up plans of these pieces. I can't imagine how complex would be building them following a set of construction plans. :P

This reminds of the rolling marble track sculpture my children's hospital had... This brings back so many memories of me staring at this for so long while I waited for my appointments. I'm so happy I looked this up on youtube after so many years.

It is honestly sad to see a channel this incredible go unnoticed to me, and so many others, who would love this stuff for so many years... I’m just glad I found what I didn’t know I needed. Truly incredible

This is a true masterpiece, David! Congratulations to the implementation of the new components. I am following your work a while now. This on stands out as much as your first big sperical sculpture did. These two for me are amongst the best sculptures I have seen. Magnificent. Marbleous. - Stefan

Had to have another watch of this one. Fantastic piece, Dave. The counterweighted tipping arms and other track switch mechanisms are ingenious, great creativity. Excellent work, yet again.

Cheers Tom! I'm really pleased at how this one turned out. The 35mm ball is so much more fun to work with. It opens up more mechanical possibilities.

@@rollingballdave Indeed. I used a similar size for one commission, and I really enjoyed that aspect as well as how forgiving they are of minor inconsistencies in sizing or track width and the like.

Amazing! Since it is commissioned for a client I understand you can only show a little bit but I wish could look at it for hours a discover new things. It could belong in a museum.

I love it. It makes me wish I had one of my own. You're a genius to craft these works of art and engineering. I have a question now though. Are there any of these sculptures that can tell the time and possibly date?

Thanks for the fantastic comments. I really do enjoy building my sculptures. A sculpture that can tell the date as well as time... Now THAT would be awesome.
