Thank you for making this video. I was sold two watches from the early 1970s and thought they were broken until the seller kindly educated me that the quickset was not yet invented... he sent me this video and explained that it's best to keep the watch in rotation... as in, wear it regularly (recommended) or to keep it wound in my watch case so when I want to wear it, I don't have to sit and wind the watch over and over (but this idea he said not so recommended). The reason he said he personally would not keep the watch wound is because when I am not wearing it, the watch sitting and ticking away for days and weeks and months puts minimal wear and tear that could eventually wear down a part a lot quicker than it would had I left it unwound and only wound it when using it. For me, the non-quickset is simply a part of what makes my two watches quirky, and the idea of having to take the time to set the day and the date reminds me why I wear a watch in the first place - to slow down and enjoy life. Not everything happens instantly, even setting the time. If you ask me, I can live with that.

There are ways to tell if it is double quickset, single quickset or non quickset just by looking at the watch. Each version of the Daydate is physically different .

@@matheusreis2235 18038 has a slightly thicker case but a smaller bezel so you can see a small gap where the bezel meets the case near the crown on the righthand side. 18238 bezel is a perfect size which follows the case so there is no gap at all. The 1803 has the thinnest case and also a smaller bezel. 1803 also uses a pie pan originally. 1803 dials cannot be used on 18038 or 18238. 18038 and 18238 can share dials. In this video, the double quickset is a 118238 which uses the same movement as its predecessor 18238.

Great video. What are the reference numbers to the watches though?
@Chronofy

Non Quickset reference number(s) 1803 or 1807. Single Quickset reference number(s) 18038 or 18078. Double Quickset reference number(s) 18238 or 18248.

If it is non quickset does it drop in value compared to the single and double quick sets??

Paul Diaz I’ve seen some on chrono24 and I’d have to say yes, non quick and single and double plays a big factor in the pricing.

They move up in value in tandem actually. The 1803 which is vintage category can cost more than the 18038 or 18238 depending on the rarity of the dials. Thats what they are at the end of the day. My personal preference is for ref1803 and 18238. Ref 18038 may often develop a tricky problem with its date and day plates failing to jump in synch as they are only held down by the dial plate essentially. 18238 which runs on cal3155 is probably the most robust. You can beat the watch and it will still run really solid. Ref 1803 is also a solid workhorse as it uses the simplest cal1556. Always look for a thick beefy case and avoid anything that has been overpolished. The value of a gold watch is also highly dependant on the condition of its gold case amongst other things. Cheers

My none quick set is hard to turn .. is this normal for a 1803 model?

No it is not normal. The oils may have dried up. But no worries, just get it oiled or give it a full service
