Roland - V-Guitar Space GR-S - No Talking Demo - No GK Midi Pickup

Музыка

No talking demo of the Roland V-Guitar Space GR-S chorus/dimension/synth thing. It's got a very catchy name. This was made for use with the GK midi pickup but also works with instruments that use a standard 6.35mm / 1/4" jack. I played through this with guitar and bass and included an example of how it stacks after an overdrive. Each mode is explored.

Nice, I haven't used the bass with it, that sounds great. I do use it with my voicelive play the freeze function on vocal harmonies sounds awesome.

It's such a cool and unusual pedal, I haven't tried it out with vocals but if I ever put together a vocal board I'll have to give it a shot

@@borrowingspace I've just got myself a boss Rc600. Putting a new pedalboard together.

Very nice demo. What I basically get out of it is that in regular guitar mode, it reproduces some of the more classic Boss/Roland Chorus tones. Mode 1 acts like a Super Chorus/CH-1, with a really wide delay time between dry and wet (also reminds me of the Rockman Stereo Chorus sound). Mode 2 acts like a CE-1/Chorus Ensemble at a moderate speed (over 1 Hz, but below 4), but brighter-possibly trying to cop a subtle Leslie sort of sound. Mode 3 sounds like a Dimension-D chorus sound, with two counter-moving voices and a modulation speed around 1 Hz. Mode 4 is similar sounding to Mode 2, but with a low-cut filter to emphasize modulation of the upper harmonics. In all modes, the color knob appears to only adjust modulation depth, though in Mode 2, there may have been a speed shift below 12 o'clock on the dial. Because the sound samples of the guitars involved mainly arpeggiated playing and riffs, there's not a lot of sustained material to really drink in the modulation speeds. Also important to note: like the GR-D distortion pedal, the GR-S has a subtle room ambience/comb filtering applied to the output by default, unless you turn it off during pedal startup. A decent array of sounds, but using it with the hex pickup really shows off what it can do-otherwise, you're better off with more versatile (and considerably less expensive!) chorus/modulation pedals, IMO.

Thanks for checking this out and for the write up :) I’d say you have a better idea about this box than I do so hopefully anyone seeing this reads your comment too. I didn’t know about the ambience/filtering thing so that could have definitely impacted the video. I agree that without the gk pick-up there’s probably not as much to gain from this pedal as others, I got mine for a very good price on eBay and would still recommend it for a collector/chorushead though. Even if just for the novelty. I took this off my board when I got the DC-2W and compliment that with a CE-3 instead. Cheers!

What difference does the hex pickup make tho?

@@boimesa8190 The sound engine is designed to process each string individually with the hex pickup, and adds in additional sound processing that you don't get on "mono" pickup processing. -Mode 1 generates an FM synth-like sound that kinda sounds like high-tech bells. -Mode 2 is like a Tri-Chorus for each individual string. -Mode 3 does a slow attack pad. -Mode 4 blends in upper and lower octaves to provide 12-string and 18-string sounds Worth clarifying as well: the GK pickup/cable does *not* transmit MIDI information, it's just the raw, analog, individual string audio with a couple of signal lines and power/ground. Any MIDI information is generated by external boxes.

Is this low volume normal? I have the impression that the level knob is not very responsive, increasing the volume only when it is almost at its maximum position

Not sure if it’s cause I’m not using the GK pickups, the loopback through my interface or if it’s just a bit of a wonk control sorry. I do have to set the level fairy high for unity volume when it’s in the chain though
