French philosopher Roland Barthes would have seen the TV screen as a cultural text - there to be read, interpreted, decoded.

It's meaningless though...... It's like 10% of an idea. I'm guessing you filled in the rest with your own imagination.

We need more of this
I adore this animation style. Amazing.
Thank you aljazeera for this.
Barthes who wrote about laundry detergent was hit by a laundry truck while walking home and later dying from his injuries.

Thank you, Timothy.
The plot thickens. A news channel telling an audience how to read between the lines.
I didn't get it...!?

Really interesting.
wonderful
I like the design of this animation.
This serves more of an entertaining, artistic purpose. It is neither explanatory, nor analytical. Still cool animations :) I get the confusion in the comments though
Cool!
this was art.
Beautiful and thank you for the French accent - perfect!
nice re: think

I know this comment is a year old but, in brief: all media have a set of internal points of meaning which interact to induce receivers of their messages believe them. All media have a rhetorical strategy. Semiotics, for Barthes, is the laying bare of this strategy in plain terms.

That's because the CNN zombies in blue cities won't regard any message as important unless it comes behind an exotic accent

al jesra on maximum damage control
why'd he say explain this in such a pretentious manner
The narrator accent is kinda hot and I'm a straight man lol.
Very confusing for just about any layman. Speak to us better.
The narrator is barely understandable... Thanks

Ryan Stelzner But mostly EXC, no? I actually understood almost every single word. I like Al Jezeera. It has to be in the same league with the NYT or the WaPo. It certainly gives a truer perspective on the ME than American or even European media.

I also had to use English subtitles .. I also think that the representation of Barth and his theory was really confusing.. I actually had to look it up myself as well to understand the gist in a better way
