I am the very pleased possessor of a Vangoa EWI-100, and, obviously am thinking about a middle-term upgrade. The Roland Aerophone definitely seems to be weapon of choice

I wish Go had more clarinet-like finger style. I learned to play on a Nuvo Clarineo and I really liked how many notes I can play without having to switch an octave. After that, all electronic wind instruments feel somewhat lacking to me.

I own the Roland AE-10 and I love it. I would consider the 20 or 30 but honestly, I can't see a reason to upgrade aside from the midi access feature.

Hi, I had an AE10 for 4yrs and loved it but I upgraded to the 20 when it was introduced last year. Bear in mind that Roland have now discontinued the 10 so I imagine a new version will be due soon to fill the gap, pricewise, between the 5 and the 20; but, that wasn't your query. Is the 20 worth the difference in price? Obviously depends on what you want to do with it but for me, yes it was. The 20 'feels' more like a proper instrument (the regular comment I got when playing my 10 out at gigs was it looked like a kiddie's plastic toy) but, most importantly, is it's responsiveness. I am a former orchestral clarinettist so classical is my genre and the 20 responds far better with breath control and with tonguing than the 10 does. The keys are f-a-r less clicky than the 10 which makes playing soft, pp, pieces much better and, if you use the 10 app a lot, as I did, then the 20 app is also far better. More complex but once you get into it it lets you do so much more with the tones than the 10 does. For the interests of fairness there are some things "I" feel are not as good as the 10.!! I far prefer the orchestral and ethnic tones on the 10 than the Zen Core version but that is very much personal. Roland have also dropped about 6 of my regularly used tones, e.g. 25-Sine Lead, 42-Saw Lead Du,103-Double Saw, 105-Super Slow Saw, which is incredibly annoying! However, the very worst 'failure', again personal to me, are the left hand palm keys that are blatantly designed to 'look good' rather than be practical - they are so clunky that whenever I try to play a top D, I almost always hit the Eb key first thus getting a most unwanted grace note! Grrrr!!! I have overcome this by 'extending' the D key with Sugru and that has solved the problem but for the price it cost one shouldn't have to make your own amendments! Having said all that I am still pleased that I upgraded as the pros do, just, outweigh the cons..... but, I will be trying to new version of the 10 when it arrives to see if I should downgrade!!!
