I have the Bower version with the fixed lens hood. Nearly unusable at f/3.5 but improves significantly at f/5.6. Gives acceptable star images at that focal ratio.

Samyang (also branded as Rokinon etc) makes some great manual focus lenses (for the price). Lens hood mounts are usually rather flimsy and lens caps are not too great (even the "normal" ones).

The lens cap is designed to fit over the two longer petals of the hood, not the shorter ones. So installed, it works fine.

Anyone considering this lens today, the cap fits over the long petals and locks in place. I have owned this lens since 2016 and the cap does not come off.

Really appreciate the video. I just realized I have the CS1 for nikon. Would you mind doing a video about the difference between the f stop and T stop on the 8mm Rokinon

I don't have anything for measuring luminosity in any sense which would give me a good metric for t stops, but I can show f/stops.

Hello! Very good video I have an 8mm rokinon. Supposedly it has an autofocus chip ... do you have to configure something in the camera? I have a nikon D7100 with focus motor, but I can not make it work. Thanks for any comment from now.

the Focus Confirm chip allows the green LED inside the viewfinder to illuminate to indicate when the image is in focus based on the activated focus point when focusing manually. It also allows you to use all modes in the camera (P, S, A, M, and full auto modes), whereas lenses without Focus Confirm chips require you to only use M mode, especially on the entry-level DSLR cameras, such as the Nikon D3000, D5000 series, and D7000 series cameras. -b&h

I have this lens (8mm Rokinon) and a Samyang 14mm full-frame (Samyang Korea makes both of these lenses). Both have the same style cup-shaped lens cap, though different sizes. I don't know what's wrong with this fellow's sample of the lens cap, but both of mine snap into place and hold securely until the two tabs are squeezed to release them. I have never had either release unexpectedly. I can't even muscle the cap of the lens. Even pushing one tab isn't enough to release the cap. In the video, it looks just how one of my examples of this lens cap behaves if it was placed on the lens without aligning the tabs to snap them in place. Since I'm sure this isn't what the reviewer did, Samyang must be guilty part to part variation in their lens caps.

He didn’t put it on right. Notice when he tries to make a point about it it stays on and he has to squeeze the tabs to get it off. User error.

Well done, i have myself a 8mm Samyang and Meike. There are more others like altura, which is the same brand. It's a nice lens to use. The image look is almost 180 degrees. Which is a lot of few. On a full frame camera gives the image vigneting which is a 3/4 circle. On apsc camera give a full image which is equivalent 12,8mm and on micro 4/3 16mm lens.

What's inside? Is the frame inside made of cheap ass plastic which breaks soon after purchase leaving you to sell it on ebay as parts only because it doesn't function anymore?

Thanks for the video. Some good points but please, less coffee before shooting your videos :-) Hold the lens still (old photography trick) and your video will stay in focus. Same thing when putting the lens hood on. That one extra second will ensure it is secure will ensure it won't bounce off. Appreciated the shots you took with the lens. In a perfect world I would have liked to hear your commentary between shots e.g when talking about how it "really puts out", show us your great shots. Similarly when talking about the distortions or aberrations, a photo to highlight the points would have been great. I was really looking for focusing tips so for me, not speeding through the 'live view' comments with techniques and tips on how you do that would have been ideal. Thanks Tom

At 5:56 on your video, I can see 'comas' on stars. Are you sure that you focused it properly? Or this lens is really bad for astrophotography.
