That is one very cool arena. Nice seeing architects not designing clone domes all the time like back k in the 70s.

It’s a beautiful, state-of-the-art and ultra modern arena with a sexy and futuristic exterior design as well.

Between Rogers and the JW going up at the same time, that two block radius had 67% of Edmontons construction work force contained within it at certain times.

I wonder how long it takes for a hockey/basketball arena to surpass it. It's already stared down challenges from Las Vegas, New York (MSG renewal, Barkley's, and Nassau renewal), L.A. (The Forum renewal), Detroit, and Quebec City.

Surpass it? Why does that even matter? Chasing a completely future proof arena is impossible, the newer buildings should always surpass older, as far as technology, if at a similar budget/quality

@@PizzaRollz1 You said "the newer buildings should always surpass older". Hmmmn. Maybe if all you think about is the size of the scoreboard and the WiFi bandwidth and such. Rogers Place isn't quite that 1-dimensional.

@@MultiCappie i just mean like, newer builds should have more to them, yet i also think we're too quick to try and build new, seems like the viable life of arenas (maybe more so in the US) is getting shorter and shorter

@@PizzaRollz1 Thanks for your honest sounding reply, I wasn't sure if you were just trolling. There are a couple things I think you should consider though: 1 - Climate controlled major seating venues located beside office building clusters (or maybe campuses) create hot zones for restaurants, cafes and bars... ... which in-turn make more attractive work or study environments. Since Rogers Place opened, Downtown Edmonton has seen the opening of close to 6X the number of full-service restaurants, and around double the number of cafes and bars. And Edmonton now has a more stable and attractive office core than Calgary with its cookie-cutter food courts only. (That's despite Calgary having double the office space.) 2 - Rogers Place has 2 separate truck entrances with indoor parking of up to 10 trucks simultaneously. This means it's quick for touring events to set-up and take down shows even while the arena concessions are simultaneously re-stocked. Snoop Dogg (famously?) played the night before Oilers/Panthers game 6 in the Stanley Cup finals, and still the ice was absolutely perfect for hockey the very next day. If an arena is located off in a deserted surface parking lot and has (the usual) two-truck, unsheltered bottleneck, I would say the city in question should consider those factors. I would suggest a minimum of 6 loading/unloading spaces, preferably sheltered, but I would never ever support a city building an arena away from its office core (or possibly main college campus) at all.
