Waters is passionate, intelligent, and wise. He can be brutal and eloquent in the same sentence, and provides a very succinct, and accurate, description of how the ruling class maintains the status quo for their own benefit. Thank you, Roger, for not staying quiet.

$2,000 for a front row seat at his canceled Pittsburgh concert! Plus Pink Floyd's songs are 'HIS' songs? No wonder Gilmour and Mason nixed lets be pals again. Hypocrite!

Roger Waters will forever be the group’s lyrical genius and thematic mastermind, Gilmour brought a stronger (and more versatile) voice, a knack for memorable melodies and guitar skills that place him among the greatest players of all time. In easy to understand terms. Waters would not be where he is now without Gilmour. Comfortably Numb was the song that created the split between Gilmour and Waters. (That and when waters said he was leaving the band and the other 3 decided to stay together as Pink Floyd and Waters took them to court saying they couldn't be called 'Pink Floyd'. After a 2 year court battle, the judge ruled the 3 remaining band members could continue on as Pink Floyd and Roger Waters was 'NOT' Pink Floyd'.) Each had their own version. Gilmour's version was more Rock and Roll. Waters version was the typical depressing lyrics. The WALL Producer Bob Ezrin took both tapes of what each thought the song should sound like back to NYC. Ezin put together a master tape that included what he thought were the pest parts and that is what is on the album. If either were not in Pink Floyd, it wouldn't be the same Pink Floyd that was.

@@mofiguy76 have a look at the video link - in particular from 5:19 - 6:07 - this is what is important here - this is why Assange is in jail - and this is why Roger is doing his best to help him - as for Pink Floyd, I have never been a fan and I have no knowledge of the relationships that might exist at the moment between the members - furthermore I couldn't care less about who is pissed off with who over money and songwriting royalties. I would imagine that of the three remaining original members, Roger is the only one who has taken both personal and financial risks because of the principles that he refuses to compromise. I am sure that there are people in the US State Department who would like to see Waters in jail with Assange and I am equally sure that Roger has invested more of his money than either Gilmour or Mason in pursuing his firmly held belief that this is an issue of freedom of speech, not just for Assange, but for all whistle blowers and investigative journalists who dare reveal the war crimes of powerful states. Take a look - and think it over - best wishes to you ! kzread.info/dash/bejne/c5ppzLJuhbyxfMo.html

Roger Waters is one of the extremely few entertainers that actually is an intellectual and when he speaks his mind, in any medium, is actually worth listening to and spending time processing the message he’s trying to relay. His thinking is built on a platform of academically reasoned constructs instead of the typical vacuous opinions of almost all other entertainers who are mostly shallow narcissists trying to reflect the opinions of someone or something they saw on TV and have no comprehension of what they’re talking about. You might disagree with what Waters says, but he would also be the first person to encourage you to do just that, provided your counter-arguments are also well founded and academically sound. He’s not an academic, he is the platform and means through which academic concepts can get translated into something the man-on-the-street can visualize and process, and he has the reach that academics can never achieve. When Waters talks, people should take the time to listen and actually contemplate what he’s saying. Waters is in the .1% of the 1 % of entertainers actually worth listening to for his opinions. It’s truly a shame that he and Gilmour couldn’t continue their collaboration. Gilmour’s music was what made Pink Floyd go the distance, and Waters educational and sometimes prophetic lyrics were carried along on the ocean of sound that flowed from Gilmour’s hands. Together, they were greater than the sum of their individual parts. The only other two that had that level of integration were Lennon and McCartney. Partners like that come along so rarely that we haven’t seen the likes again in 50 years. We were lucky beyond all luck to have had two sets of partners during our lifetime. I hope our children will get the chance to witness even “one” such collaboration in their lifetime. Unfortunately, great partnerships like these two are as rare as Halley’s comet.

Roger’s best period of songwriting was when he was in his 20’s. He seems to have completely forgotten most of it or seriously undervalued it, but it was his best stuff. He might say he didn’t know what he was doing, but if that’s the case, his naïveté served him and the listener quite well. Way better than his bitter, reactive stuff. His real flowering came about during the making of the More album. So many great songs there. Cirrus Minor, Green Is The Color, The Nile Song, Cymbaline and others. One of the most beautiful songs ever made, Grantchester Meadows, has no equal. Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together In A Cave And Grooving With A Pict certainly has no equal. Pillow of Winds and Burning Bridges. So many superb songs in those earlier days. I wish that someday an interesting journalist comes along and gets Roger to talk about it all because his earlier period is extremely interesting and unique. A World Treasure.

Dave Fink Play her the More album and Grantchester Meadows followed by Several Species. That should really widen her eyes. It sure did that to my 17 year old eyes way back in the day. Discovering the band back then starting at Piper At The Gates of Dawn was the experience. Every new (to me in 1970) album was such a joy to behold, from cover to sound. Then discovering the British version of Piper with three more songs and then Syd’s solo albums and the quirky Roger Waters/Ron Geesin album Music From The Body........well. Those were interesting days. I still cherish it all.

Sugar D And no doubt the band dynamic and contribution of ideas came into play as well. It was a really fruitful period for Roger and being that he didn’t start out as the band’s main songwriter, it’s quite extraordinary how he came forth with such an abundance of high quality, imaginative writing, aided and abetted by such a great band.

I forgot to mention Julia Dream and Point Me At The Sky. Yep, someday an interviewer of quality who really knows the material should sit down with Roger and really delve deep into that period. It’s one of the most amazing periods of musical creation and Roger, along with the band really delivered quality. To this day it all continues to conjure its magic on new listeners and listeners of old.

And that is why I love him now and have loved him and Pink Floyd for over 30 years! I first watched "The Wall" at Moscow State University in what was then the USSR, with a group of Russian students. They LOVED that movie because it spoke to them about what they had just experienced with the wall coming down, both physically and metaphorically within their own lives. One of those students is a lifelong friend and is now a diplomat with the Russian Foreign Ministry, and he STILL loves Pink Floyd and he went to see Roger Waters recently in concert in Moscow. He believes like I do and it can best be summed up as: FUCK THE PIGS!

Loyal Opposition for the wall and the final cut yes. But their best songs are all Gilmour and Wright dominated music. He even closes all his shows with Gilmour’s comfortably numb music. Roger is very insecure about it all which is why he’s forever trying to take a disproportionate amount of the credit. I think that’s why he’s so much more immersed in politics now too, he knows he’s a spent force musically and it’s his way of staying relevant . There’s also a reason why his post Floyd work is almost all musically sub-par.
