Without Clapton's excellent guitar work, this album would have been a total humiliation for Roger. The songs on "The Pros and Cons" were so subpar. In fact, Clapton showed Roger who was Boss when he decided to join the tour. In other words, Roger ended up touring with Clapton (not Clapton touring with Roger). Roger soon became demoralized by the fact that the majority of the people who were coming to his shows were actually Clapton fans who were only there to see and hear the brilliant guitarist, One night, Roger felt particularly slighted by the fans when they started cheering for Clapton after an incredible solo. Roger became so upset that he threw a hissy, sissy fit, and stormed off the stage leaving the audience perplexed. Haha! I'm sure he thought that he would OWN David Gilmour by hiring Clapton to play his guitar parts, but Roger underestimated the size of his own ego As a result, Roger ended up owning himself. Ha Ha!
I have been very lucky to have seen Roger 6 times including "The Wall" in Tacoma, Wa. I saw "the Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking" live at the Oakland Coliseum. I have tickets for the "This isn't a Drill", which I have had for over a year. I will be 80 by the time I see Roger again and I will be sitting up front and very close. I have loved his words and music for over half my life and I want him to know how much joy he has brought me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. ❤

When this album came out a buddy a few years older than me introduced it to me. I will never forget that night, sitting up late, smoking a joint and taking in the music, rocking it and playing video games. 3 days later his brother told me he committed suicide. I hope you are at peace Chrarlie. How could we have been friends that long and me not know something was bothering you? DAMNN IT! I miss you buddy! Every time I hear 5.01 AM I think of you. Roger actually picked me up hitchhiking ten years and two weeks before this album was released! It was right between Dark Side and Wish You Were Here! He was going golfing with a friend He backed up way too far on a bridge(like a couple hundred yards) The ride was from Trafalgar up through Cambridge! He was very nice and friendly!

@@jesse5823 Pretty much just small talk, it was on 4/16/74! Dark Side had only been out about a year! I was appreciative for the ride because he first passed me up, and like I said he backed up dangerously too far on a bridge! I recognized him right away! I said," Hey buddy is your name Roger"? He was driving, leaned back with a big smile looking over his shoulder and said," Yeah it's me"! At the time I didn't realize the genius of dark side, or that it would be, in some circles, the G-O-A-T!!! Thanks for reaching out! The story leading up to and after is special! Best guitar solo. On this whole album Clapton sounds a bit drunk, just enough out of practice, and passionately raw. He's clearly having a good time with Blackie and that's not a side of Eric you usually get to see. He''s usually much too polite a boy.

As a high school senior in 1988, I was working on Long Island at “Nobody Beats the Wiz,” and was about one-year into loving Pink Floyd’s music. (I had seen the Gilmour incarnation live at Nassau Coliseum for “A Momentary Lapse of Reason” the year before.) My best friend and I both worked at The Wiz. He had gotten me the job. I bought this album on a cassette tape in our store’s record department, and we were listening to it in my car after work on the drive home. This song struck me as familiar, and I KNEW that I had heard it before - and it would have to have been on the radio, which is hard to imagine. It isn’t really a song you’d hear on the radio, but when I played that tape and heard it, I knew that I had heard the chorus before (and not on MTV, if this video had even ever been played there).

@peacefuljeffrey I understand your love of Pink Floyd, but I'm confused. This song isn't Pink Floyd music. It is far from it. This is Roger Water's, contemporary adult, oldies music. The only stations that played this song were the oldies stations on am radio. The only Pink Floyd song I can even remotely compare this song with is "Seamus" (from the Meddle album) or perhaps "Vera/Bring The Boys Back" from "The Wall" (I hate that song.).

Great song; great Clapton solo.
Bought this tape in 1985. Then went on leave and caught a train from Johannesburg to Durban. Went broke after 10 days, didn't have money for a train ticket back and had to hitch hike back home. Took me 2 days of hitch hiking. I sang that song many times next to the road, and when I finally arrived at my spot, I played it over and over ...

MGForums The court case proved that he didn't want to be "Pink Floyd". Waters never sued for the name. He sued to prevent the use of the name because they weren't Pink Floyd if they were just Gilmour and Mason. In the end he was advised that the name was so profitable that it had to exist, and since he didn't want to sue for it himself, he settled on the rights to The Wall, and continued royalties from any images created by the band during his time with them, and gave the name to the other two. Noneovyer Business He also was only able to fire Rick with the consent of the other two members. Rick was fired for being the only member who refused to return to work from his holidays, jeopardising a huge royalty payment if they could meet their deadline. Gilmour and Mason didn't protest letting him go.
