I was recently diagnosed. 33 years old. If it it can happen to me it can happen to anyone. Still minor symptoms for now. I’m a former marine, including a 3 year rotation as a DI. God bless everyone battling this horrible disease and God bless their families and loved ones

I haven't been diagnosed. But I'm having facial twitches. Leg twitches, arms twitches everywhere, been feeling myself getting weaker over past two years and I used to be near pro level athlete. Do you have any input on this or similarities. Could you tell me a bit about your onset of symptoms that led to diagnosis

I was surprised to learn that only 5-10 % of ALS sufferers were hereditary, the other 90-95% seemingly develop it at random?? So it really can happen to anyone

I have this disease for 5 years. Now I know that it affects each person in a different way and speed of advancement. I also know that although slow in my case; the deteriorated never stops. I move around in a wheelchair and my arms are very weak. Not having hope and seeing the dark future that awaits me, depending on others, for my basic functions makes me wish a quick end.

My good friend was diagnosed with ALS aged 61. She was super fit and healthy yet died just 4 months after diagnosis. I am still in shock.

My dad died of ALS but he was a stubborn hard working man from Chicago. I respect his hardness, but I wish he had fought so that others may benefit. He stayed in the denial stages until the end.

My friend was absolutely fit but needed spinal surgery for a lingering back pain issue. After immediately after surgery he developed GI issues where he couldn’t eat much. Over the next year he lost a lot of weight since he couldn’t eat much. He saw specialists across the medical field with each saying they couldn’t find anything wrong. Finally after two years later he was diagnosed with ALS. He’s now wheelchair bound. I saw a British medical journal paper that perhaps there was a correlation of spinal surgery and subsequent ALS. Not indicating that it causes it but the trauma or manipulation of the spinal chord could have accelerated or triggered it. For my friend the spinal surgery was literally like flipping a switch to ALS

Hi, iam a 30 years old man. I had fear to had ALS, after visited a Chiropractic i begin with dysphagia, i lost weight too. All this after Chiropractic moves. So, maybe your theory is true. I've currently got symptoms and I'm terrified. Wait times for a neurologist here in the UK is up to a year currently, I can't even get to see a GP. I had two spinal surgeries last year for cauda equina. My leg was getting better ....now it bad, as well as both hands. The spinal team keep saying it's nothing to do with my back. 😢

It makes me really sad. I noticed this symptoms 2 yrs ago from my forearm but I was told , it was from my carpal tunnel. But last night for the entire night, for so many hours, my left arm bicep muscles was moving uncontrollably on its own. I massaged it, took a prescription muscled relaxer, and it didn't help. I can feel it even in my sleep. It doesn't hurt but it sure does bother me a lot. I took a video of it so I can show it to my doctor. I will also show the video of the one on my forearm. I have had an MRI of my brain I think last year but it came out normal. I might request for more test or even a spinal tap if needed. I do have a really bad weakness in my legs and my arms. I cannot stand for long period of time. I get tired so easily. Fatigue that is , yes. I do have an auto immune disease as well. And I have had a stiffening of my inner left thigh muscles that rarely happens since 2012. But when it does happen, it is very very very painful. A feeling that is hard to describe. But I used to be a health care worker, and I have had patients with MS and when they are in pain, I can almost imagine that pain I have in my inner thigh and it hurts me to watch them in pain. So, I might request for a spinal tap just for a peace of mind. I really hope sooner, doctors will be able to find something to help with this disease. To those who are suffering, and to their families, I cannot imagine the pain they are in. And me seeing that symptoms I showed last night, I hope it is not. It scares me because my kids are only teenagers, and I am a single mom, with both their dads, not helping me and not in communication with us nor with them. I have to do everything to find out what is wrong with me to find a way to slow it down if ever.

@@janeacusar Be grateful you haven't. It causes symptoms just like ALS and or MS . I've been damaged by this class of antibiotics two years ago . Flagyl is also another brutal antibiotic

Yes I would hope one day they will have a cure but it's like there's no cure for cancer yet it's so sad some people do recover from cancer but you don't recover from ALS my husband had it he died 6 months ago he had it for two and a half years there's not a day go by that I don't miss him I was just caregiver and wife

May I ask.... I'm still on the waiting list to see my primary doc.... I've had numbness in one arm.. it's oon and off all day. Both arms and left leg move in a spastic manner sometimes. Hadd any of you had these symptoms?

My uncle is also suffering from this horrible disease. I live several states away but I want to help. He has no one, no caretaker. He hasn't been able to work so he lives in horrible housing conditions sharing 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom with 8 other strangers and no one who'll help him. My heart breaks open for him and his situation and I would give anything to be in a different stage of my life where I had both the financial and professional freedom to move up there and be there. He can barely talk on the phone anymore because he has a hard time answering it or talking. I'm just not sure what I can do.

Can the muscle weakness come and go? Meaning can you feel good in the morning after a good nights sleep only to have the muscle weakness increase as the day goes on? Or is it constant?

I have seen videos on a channel on here called Your ALS Guide, it has alot of info, some on Stem Cell treatments that have helped patients, but it is very expensive.

God does not bring suffering into the world - that is the work of sin, and of the accuser, the evil one. Rather, God permits it to test our faith. Sorry your faith has failed you. As a Christian with these symptoms… I am not giving up an inch. Peace, friend.
