Roger Hodgson (Supertramp) Writer and Composer of Dreamer
Музыка
Roger Hodgson co-founded Supertramp in 1969 and was the driving force behind what fans call the 14 golden years of the band. He wrote, sang, and arranged the enduring rock standards that made Supertramp a worldwide phenomenon with album sales in excess of 60 million. “Dreamer" was the first hit song Roger ever wrote and composed and it became the first hit song for Supertramp. In addition to “Dreamer,” Roger also gave us timeless classics such as Give a Little Bit, Breakfast in America, The Logical Song, Take the Long Way Home, School, It's Raining Again, Fool's Overture, and many more.
"I'm fortunate to have written songs that have become hits without ever trying to write one. I’ve never been successful ‘trying’ to write a hit song. Inspiration has come to me in many different ways. The inspiration for ‘Dreamer' was born out of excitement and just erupted out of me. I managed to get my hands on a Wurlitzer Piano and I took it down to my mother’s house. It was the first time being alone with one and when I started playing it, the song just exploded out of me. I made a magical demo of it on a 2 track tape recorder, using lampshades and cardboard boxes for percussion. Looking back, it was quite auspicious that as a young songwriter with so many dreams I had my first hit with a song named Dreamer. It’s a song and lyric that seems to have captured the imagination (and dreams) of people worldwide. I always play it near the end of my concerts and it never fails to get people dancing and celebrating.” ~ Roger Hodgson

Roger Hodgson - what an incredible talent. This was the first song I ever heard that made me FEEL something - I didn't just listen to it, I EXPERIENCED it. Four decades later, I still feel the same way. It's still my favorite song after all these years.
One of the most underrated groups ever .....I loved them

What are you talking about? One of the biggest bands in the world during the mid-to-late '70's?...They were never, "Underrated" - that's like saying Wings or 10cc are underrated just because they're not on the radio in heavy rotation, anymore. They're not underrated - then, or now - they're just from a different time.
Roger Hodgson = genius

Such a brilliantly complex yet simple song. I try to imagine how something like this comes together and I can't even comprehend it... so I just enjoy it and relive my teen years. Thank you Roger.

Right?!!!!
I went to his first solo concert. No fanfare, no fancy tricks, no grand entrance, he just walked on in jeans and a white shirt, sat down and smiled.... and the whole audience turned into jelly! I can still recall the first few strummed notes, it was the chi-ching chi-ching of Give a Little Bit. We all went bat-shit crazy! I have never before or since witnessed a man control a crowd so effortlessly with so little. It was an epic experience.

Even in this performance he's like the serene floating Swan who effortlessly glides by whilst the legs are going live mad under the water. Roger is still & serene whilst his hands are moving like mad on the keyboard.

What a bassline !
I love it since my youth (born 1961). Thank you for the music!
Supertramp is just awesome. What a band.
I love the English slang! “I said” far out! My grandma introduced those sentences with “I said” to emphasize, and our family has been in the American South for 300 years! Nice touches and flourishes.
Love the finger music on the wine glasses! Roger, you were surrounded by exceptional underrated musicians. I wish Supertramp was recognized for the individuals and not just 'a big band with many members'. You helped create my favorite band of all time... thank You.
What a band, they worked so well together in sync
Que voz impressionantemente linda....
I've always loved this band. From childhood. I am brazilian and I live in Brazil. 2021.
Estuve en su último concierto en Barcelona. Fue espectacular hace exactamente 30 años.
Love Supertramp, great music.
Its so great to watch this young and dreaming Roger Hodgson singing this!
no one makes quality music like this anymore
1974, i was 8 and already crazy about music, and i did alot of playbacking with a fake guitar and microphone, and i remember that is also liked this song from supertramp, and more hits ofcourse. Hell, why is life so damn short? Because i'm getting 53 next month, so life is over before we know it!

Saw Supertramp at the Forum in L.A in 1978. What impressed me most was their live show sounded exactly like their studio LPs, which is quite a challenge for most bands.
having listened to this fantastic song many times over many years, though everything is brilliant and works perfectly from the soft tempo to up tempo what really makes this song stand out is the lead singing, there is something absolutely magically in the delivery of the lyrics, one of my all time favourites
I am 63 now and just love this band since my good old teenage days.

One of the first Original Master Recording albums I bought was Crime of the Century. It remains a prized possession of mine to this day. There's absolutely NOTHING in this day and age that even comes close to the sound quality of one of those albums.

Unique and epic music. No where to be found elsewhere.
unbeatable supertramp ! all great musicians, two fantastic composers, one genius (roger) , and the best sound engineer !
Великолепная вещь! Я ее услышал еще в конце семидесятых. Спасибо, Роджер. Wonderful song! I heard it back in the late seventies. Thank you, Roger. You have your own style, and I always recognize you.
