@Steelmonger888 well of course against the elite he's gonna suck but I bet he improved like a MF. I think for JJ his balance, arm positioning, foot sweeps and foot sweep defense is excellent....for JJ of course.

That Uchi Mata is a thing of beauty,, only surpassed by the amazingly smooth guard pass at 6:13m. Roger makes it look easy against legends like Professor Galvão.

Andre is one the best and probably the best in his weight class to ever do it. But roger is the greatest of all time. The only person that might beat roger is rickson.

Haha bravo has 5 wins against guys his own size. No way he can deal with somebody the size of roger. And roger beat Marcelo twice. Gordon has the size to deal with roger. Gordon also has the technique to match roger. I say with gi roger will win and no gi Gordon takes it.

@@johnmedina5399 Well Gordon puts almost no emphasis on the gi game. Having said that, I think Roger would beat him in Gi, but not easily. Conversely, circa 2022, Gordon could play with Roger in no gi. Don't know how Gordon got so far beyond everyone else...he just did.

Roger was just on another level. Andre's gotten so much better than we see here though. His guard is ridiculous now. I don't see Roger passing so easily anymore. Awesome match for the times though.

@@baw285 I'd agree that both have improved, but Andre has to improve the most to close some of the holes in his game. The main one being his guard. It was so much weaker back then compared to now. Again, I still don't think he'd be handled as easily nowadays. Anyone out there have a now recent footage of a roll between the two? If so, please toss it up for the conversations's sake. I sure am curious. 🤔🙂

@@Presence_o_Mind i’ve seen roger crash bigger stronger opponents than andre .. he is that dominant and unique .. and i’m an andre fan too but roger is on another galaxy with his simple effective jiu jitsu .. there is plenty of roger’s sparring videos on youtube against top players you can check them out .. you can also check his last jiu jitsu match against buchecha 10 years younger than him and he still made him look like a blue belt ...

@@baw285 brother, I'm well aware of those videos and actually watched both Roger v Buchecha matches as they happened. I still think Andre is far better than he was during this match. His improvement is definitely more pronounced in my opinion than the improvement Roger has shown from that time to the present. Yes, I still think Roger is the greatest and I'd love to see him go against Gordon Ryan without the gi, but again, I still don't think he'd crush Andre as badly as he did in this one.

Pra você ver como o Bjj evoluiu, eu tenho certeza que se fosse atualmente o André teria pulado colocando o gancho cruzado na outra perna do Roger pra que ele não movimentasse e uma possível pegada de costas. Submitting Galvao is no easy task!

Roger is the goat along with rickson, but rickson has the edge because he is the king of mma, the king of the cage. So many great gracies. Is it in their genes or their energy or. Dedication. Whatever it is, I would choose to train with roger if I had a choice because of his attitude in general. I don't see any ego or bull. I would go with rickson but he is a bit too intense about concepts. Everyone is different so you develop your own philosophy and bring in some of the best you see, but you can't expect someone to think exactly like you do or fight exactly like you fight. A fighter needs more than one mentor if he wants to be able to beat the best.

minha lista de melhores da história do Jiu Jitsu 1- Royce Gracie (pelo que fez na época do vale tudo, acho que não tem como comparar o atleta que luta jiu jitsu contra jiu jitsu com o atleta que ganhou tudo usando o jiu jitsu contra outras artes marciais, sem peso e sem tempo.) 2- Roger Gracie 3- Buchecha /Rafael Mendes depois eu não consigo colocá-los numa posição certa.. Rodolpho, Malfacine, Gui Mendes, Bernardo Faria, André Galvão, Lo, Lepri, Xande Ribeiro Damian Maia... Não incluo os "OLD SCHOOL" porque não acompanhei, comecei a treinar e acompanhar jiu desde 2011. veja as Lutas do Rodolfo e não da se quer para colocar ele e galvão na mesma pagina, veja o confronto direto entre eles, inclusive se deixar os numeros de lado Rodolfo e melhor que o buchecha, nos absolutos o buchecha vinha ganhando de vantagens e pontos, rodolfo do outro lado da chave vinha atropelando todo mundo!

Trust me, there's no real coaching going on in there unless you have a megaphone. I coached 8 athletes in that same building and only 1 could hear me. A match like this would certainly be deafening!
