@@bennettrussell8249 No it's definitely because of the lack of a dampener. Most players use one, while Roger doesn't, which is why you hear that "pop" all the time when Roger is swinging.

I can't stand that sound for one minute when playing. Don't know how he does it. If my dampener flies out of racquet everything stops till it's found and put back in place.

I have seen him Volley with a double handed backhand. I think mainly cause guys hit much harder now and honestly I don't think he is as strong upper body wise like let's say Boris Becker. But Apples and Oranges here. Different eras.

only as recently as three years ago, federer was not hitting his backhand as well as he is now am sure. i now see a definite improvement in his net game including the approach shot in less than one year. as a devoted fan, should i be impressed with the degree of domination roger must have had with the other two shots, serve and forehand enough not needing to work on those areas of his game that has shown obvious recent improvements? or regret that we didn’t get to witness the complete federer that he is now in his prime? to be honest, his image of being a tiebreak guy who had great serve and forehand still haunts me. i wanted to see him work on his game seriously a lot sooner like when he was a junior player. or am i wrong to think this? sorry, no disrespect to the guy. just that his recent improvements seem so huge and sad that it didn’t happen a long time ago. ok i said that. that’s how i feel. sorry, roger.

It is interesting that I can never find a real practice on youtube - when players practice hitting on the run, putting away balls, solving dropshots, practicing preparing shots and then volleying, practicing tactical patterns etc. Maybe these are top secrets. Anyway, I heavily miss these. All the videos show comfortable hitting only.

You should watch Briam Abdul. He was top 80 in atp and is now a coach in Miami and hw posts videos on youtube. He trains D1 college athletes and uses training achemes that the pros use.

Fed actually has high tension on his string. I think it sounds like that because he has no dampener and hits very clean
