In anticipation of the upcoming 2021 Laureus World Sports Awards we’re taking a look back at some of the most iconic speeches from winners in the history of the event.
In 2018, Roger Federer was named Laureus Sportsman of the Year, collecting the prize from legend of the women’s game - Martina Navratilova. It was the fifth time he’d received the prestigious award.
Federer won his fifth Australian Open and eighth Wimbledon title in 2017, becoming only the second man in the Open Era to win Wimbledon without dropping a set. He has now won a record 19 Grand Slam men’s singles titles and also won the Sunshine Double - Indian Wells and Miami Masters. His victory in the Swiss Indoors in October was his 95th career title.
He used his speech to draw attention to the work Laureus Sport For Good do around the world to use sport to change the world: “The Laureus Foundation - you do amazing work. I have a foundation of my own and I’m inspired and motivated by what you guys do. Maybe one day I’ll be remembered for my philanthropic work rather than my tennis work.”

Records are not everything Nadal/Novak. RF is the most talented, most beautiful, most humble player ever. No one i mean no one can match his charishma, elegance. So many diff shots he inventended which hardly any1 can copy. He is perfect player at the net or from baseline. No wonder, ppl all over the world loves him. Even his opponents only hav to say good things abt him.

Nadal and Djok do not reach his level of play tennis wise. But they have more fighter mentality which compensates. But pure tennis play, they do not compete with the Fed. His art of the racquet is better. The fight and clutch, they are better. And so they come sate with that. Also Nadal has the legs and physicality.

What a childish statement to make, all three are great players in their own right. In fact, if one is unbiased and analytical, then Djokovic would be rated as the greatest player of all time because he won more clutch matches against his great rivals, more balanced all surface record and better final winning percentage. Only an ignorant individual would dismiss them with casual statements like yeah fighting spirit but not much of the other qualities.

Wow way to go ballistic without knowing any context. FYI, Novak was not nominated, Rafa was for that year. This was for their achievements in 2017 and Rafa had a standout year as well as Federer. Way to turn something that is about Federer into something about Novak. Why are you even watching this clip in the first place?

Novak- the true weakest era emperor of all times. He will end up winning 35+ slams playing in the weakest era tennis has ever seen & will never see ( year 2013 to year 2030) . He will never be considered the goat by anybody . The true weakest era champ
